You can go from Hannah Montana to full blown Miley Cyrus. That should slow things down. Just... don't take pictures while you do so, please. And keep your clothes on.

You know I am willing to pay the price for many cards in legacy but if the cost of blue revised duals would drop even a little.
I'd be a happy camper, even though I don't like most of the decks I'd use them cards in.

Ehh idk, there is a delicate balance. Jace the mind sculptor took a hit with all of the reprintings. from 150 -> ~65

Here's my question. If a benevolent entity were to pool resources and buy out a certain percentage of the supply of duals, could said entity then force Wizards' hand on the reserved list?

I don't see why Wizards would care.
In fact, I bet they would actually be pretty happy, since then most people would be priced out and have to rely on MTGO if they actually wanted to play Legacy or Vintage.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices, Buyouts and Reprints Thread
I love how the whole situation is spiraling out of control now, especially with the real sharks joining in. Because this is going to force WotC to take action sooner or later, for PR reasons or whatever legal trouble it might cause when politicians notice the whole thing.

Well its sort of different because jtms established its price from standard as well as the eternal formats. It only sees relatively limited play in legacy and vintage now since it isn't in standard and is banned in modern so there isn't much demand compared to things like goyf, lotv and other multi format staples. On top of that it was printed in a seemingly lackluster ftv set where it was basically the only valuable card.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices, Buyouts and Reprints Thread
No... I mean, what leverage does having X% of dual lands actually give the entity over WotC?
On top of that, what value does X have to reach? Given that all the Alpha/Beta copies not in vendor hands are likely encased in plastic or have found a permanent home in someone's collection, getting a large percentage of the Revised duals would prove difficult. I would be pretty amazed if such an entity could acquire 10%.
You'd probably have better luck filing a petition with the government online. It certainly wouldn't accomplish anything, but it would be funny to force the President of the United States to acknowledge WotC's policy on the Reserve List.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices, Buyouts and Reprints Thread
I think it's been said but I see one of two responses from WotC.
They finally repeal the Reserved List, to the happiness of 99.99% of players
or
They completely stop mentioning/supporting formats that need cards off of the RL. Wipe their hands and be done with it.
Hopefully it's the first one. I'm not sure why they care about the RL so much when they (supposedly) can't mention the value of the cards in the secondary market without legally being responsible for the prices of the cards or gambling or something and almost every person in existence wants it abolished. I've never actually met a player who likes the Reserved List in any respect, and I've been to my fair share of Vintage tournaments.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices, Buyouts and Reprints Thread
Guesses on what's next? A cursory look over the list has me curious about Volrath's Stronghold, corpse dance, lake of the dead, mana vortex and thawing glaciers. While they're all EDH cards, each one is way better in that format than altar of bone. Except maybe for mana vortex.

The other option is that eternal formats essentially become online formats and all of their support simply goes to online events. They could stop sinking money into supporting paper eternal and use that coin to invest in a proper GUI for MTGO. Thats probably a happy medium. I think it would be pretty sweet if they were able to integrate the game in a way that could be played on phones, tablets and computers. I see them raking in ALOT more coin if they make it possible.

The point is that playing Magic on our phones is not even close to a desirable solution for all this.
Playing Magic on a phone is a worse situation than the one we have now.

Still with the Reserve List. As if any format depends for its life on the Reserve List! This is a bit of a cross-post from my discussion the The Drain, but it bears repeating: The Reserve List is a big, fat, red herring. Wizards could reprint cards that challenge or replace every card on that list tomorrow if they chose to do so. They do not because they are concerned those cards would have a bad effect on the game. Even so, we see them print competition ALL THE TIME.
1. Countermagic. Mana Drain and Force of Will have no had a lock on your first 8 counterspell slots for years. Flusterstorm, Mental Mistep, Spell Pierce, etc., are all situationally better.
2. Old hate cards keep getting reprinted, often improved. Sphere becomes Golem. Thorn becomes Thalia. Rod becomes Silence. Moat becomes Magus of the Moat (or Peacekeeper).
3. They try to reprint "safe" versions of the Power Nine all the darn time. Reprinting some form of Time Twister, Ancestrall Recall, and Time Walk is one of WotC's favorite hobbies. Occasionally the make one that is actually a worthy successor (Treasure Cruise!)
4. They print cards that enable new archetypes that compete with the old guard commonly, too. Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple are to Eldrazi what Mishra's Workshop is to artifacts. Cavern of Souls specifically enables tribal strategies. And, each of these are to some level exclusive with each other. As anyone watching the VSL can see, jamming Workshop AND Eldrazi into the same deck causes tension with your mana base forcing you to make decisions or just being greedy and losing because you can't cast your TKS. :)
There's literally nothing stopping them from printing riffs on the Revised Duals or other Vintage staples that are situationally better or worse -- except power level concerns, I suppose. You could easily print these in a Commander or other eternal-only supplementary set:
Strange Dual Land
Forest Island
When this enters the battlefield, each player Scrys 1.
Strange Mox Jet
Artifact
T: Add one black mana to your mana pool.
When this enters the battlefield, each player may draw a card. If he or she does, that player then discards a card.
Neither of these offend the Reserve List in any way, and both are genuine competition for the originals depending on the deck. ("But wait, they'll just get played along side the originals!") Well, of course they will. But, how much space do we really have left in our decks as it is? People jam 5 moxen even when some are off-color. Artifact hate makes it risky to make your entire mana base moxen. Who is going to replace all the basics with duals in a world with Wasteland?
In any event, those kind of considerations are for Design and Development to hammer out. The point is, if you want more Vintage cards, just lobby Wizards to print new ones.
THERE IS NOTHING SACRED ABOUT THE CARDS ON THE RESERVE LIST.

I'm happy with it. I'd lose a fuckton of value if they'd reprint duals. I've got at least a playset of each, revised, which is the version of the card which would crash hardest if they'd reprint them. For some of my other stuff, the RL is irrelevant. No way they'd ever reprint power, Library of Alexandria, Candelabra,...
Anyhow, you know this is a toucht topic when they start to whine about it on the high end facebook group, of all places.
