Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I think it's a natural evolution of things. Many players got fed up from being priced out for the cards they need or paying stupid amounts everytime they needed something new. So, they decided to ride the price fluctuations to their advantage so that they could turn that profit into the cards they need when they need something new. Not the best way to construct these sentences but hope I got my point across.
There are also other who just like betting games, stock trading and also MtG so they just try to turn the same profit in a game they happen to enjoy.
I understand the first category as I would be on the same boat if I were still a student and could justify the time/profit balance. For the second category, I don't know if I can really blame them because if you know the game well enough it is easier to make money off the MtG market rather than the actual stock market and it's easier to manipulate this one. Although the profit margins are much lower, the low risk factor makes it attractive I guess.
Still very depressing since it creates a sense of urgency to acquire a lot of cards before they see incredible price jumps with the fear of "what if I need it in time and it becomes a 80$ card?". This fear drives a lot of people to jump on to anything they can get their hands on and causes the rapid overall price increase in my opinion. It's like the loots right after a natural disaster.

It just reminds me of a few cards like Gemstone Mine, Ill Gotten Gains, or one of my favorite cheap wonders Argothian enchantress.
Reserved list cards that do stuff unlike any other card and are good should never be $4.00. Firestorm allows you for one mana to discard your hand, and perhaps zap some stuff regardless of counter magic. Any self respecting magic miser / speculator should own multiples of all the 'cheap but playable or are one new card away from broken' reserved list cards.

jesus, will you guys stop naming cards? People read this thread, and without thinking they speculate on cards being name-dropped, since they're afraid to miss out on the next goyf.
I can't see that this thread contributing with any good to the legacy community.

Sorry bro, you're too late; I've already got the market pretty much cornered on that one:

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
So it looks like Lion's Eye Diamond has finally jumped in price. A lot of vendors no longer carry it at $50. I bought mine about year ago at $25-$30 a pop.
It is pretty obvious dredge is the reason for this, but with a lot of Legacy Staples stagnant or dropping why such a big jump for this one? When ANT/TES were at their peak(mystical tutor era) this card never reached $50-$60 range like it has now. Dredge can't be that popular, can it?
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Even with LEDs, it's still one of the cheaper decks in the format. People who had Dredge built but didn't already own LEDs might be moving to that version.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
LED has been inching up over the last year or two. It went from 30 to 32 to 35 and is now $40 or so.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
The increase in price of LED is completely justified. It is one of the most powerful affects allowable in legacy. There is nothing even remotely close to the boost it provides. In a deck like dredge, the downside is also an upside.
LED is one of the few cards I would label a pillar. Everyone has their own way of dissecting the format. Right now I see Delver decks, KOTR deck, LED decks, and SnT decks. LED is always in the mix for being a pillar and always will be. It is a key for all storm decks, dredge, belcher, and Grindstone decks. It would be a pretty weird meta if all of those decks were unplayable.
Just so I am not misunderstood, I am aware that Brainstorm, Wasteland, FOW, and others are much more commonly played than the pillars, but I consider them role players. They are like duals, fetches, and other stuff that is in so many decks because of general play strength.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
LED is also one of the most chancy buys you can make. That card has always been at the forefront of the finger pointing from the crybaby omgbanzors crowd. If there was ever a card to ban to cripple most of the combo decks, that one is it. It's always scared me off from buying a few extra for the rainy day.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Shardless Agent went up 1000% since last night. I was going to pick some up and every store was stocked so I put it off until morning and bam price is absurd... Guess thats what i get for waiting.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Interesting Premium article that eventually, briefly, touches on the Scroll Rack situation.

NOPE.
EDIT: LOL @ Korean Show and Tell on eBay. BIN is at $200. What a bunch of jokers.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
how much do Korean Scroll Racks go for now? I would laugh if they go for >$40 that I paid overprice for a month ago due to being impatient to finish my playset.
Is hype the only reason why Scroll Racks are high now? Given that no decks are even playing it competitively? (I personally think 1 Scroll Rack is insane in Counterthopter + Terminus build so you can have a '4th or 5th' top that greatly improves the lategame miracle gameplan with ETutors).
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Was interested in actually putting down some real money on this but it's pretty obvious the seller is shilling the hell out of it. /Disappointed
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
What do you mean Ertai's Familiar? You wanted to buy it but he's shilling it? Would you mind explaining this to me like I'm 5 haha
