I like the -X/-X effects simply because I can survive a Marit Lage hit and then make him sacrifice it. I've even resorted to using Spinning Darkness on occasion to drop to 3 life after an attack. Bridge unfortunately always meets an Abrupt Decay. We have played so many games that he knows to save his Decay for Needle or Bridge.
I've had good luck combining Wastelands/Sinkholes with Trinispheres and Pithing Needles to beat Depths, but I don't have too many reps in. I recently added Surgicals to my sideboard, and I expect they will come in as well. If you're pressuring their Stages, and they can't cast Crop Rotations or Sylvan Scryings because of Sphere, they don't have much game. Be careful of turning their Depths on with your Urborgs though. It's a lot of cards to bring in, but none of them are match-up specific.

A Chalice Pox list is interesting but I also find it counter-intuitive. Traditional Pox lists with Wastelands want to operate with as little land as possible so 1 cmc spells are the majority of Pox spells, normally. When I think of Chalices, I always look at the Stompy lists of yester-decade as well as Eldrazi. Play an early lock piece, accelerate into fattie threats that can no longer be killed cause the best removal in MtG is always 1 mana and on rare occasions, 2 mana. Wasteland spamming Pox lists don't get mana till late game which by then, some decks may recover, though most don't.
The Life from the Loam obviously allows you to recover by recovering lands and I'm thinking the Mono-B builds like myself could just use Crucible for the same result. If I wanted to run 'weird fatties' like Phyrexian Totem and Chimeric, could that compliment a chalice by being well, Stompy Pox? If so, I better start saving up for some Chalices... :cool:

I used to play a very similar list! I'm working my way back up to it. I think that the green splash for decay is great, and mox diamond supports that better that Dark Ritual. With decay you can cut your innocent bloods, and chalice starts to be attractive as a turn 1 disruption instead of Thoughtseize. It has access to Maelstrom Pulse for Planeswalkers too!Quote:

The BG Pox list looks cool too. I am glad this archetype is getting more attention.
A 17 card sideboard? No wonder it came in 2nd.

The reason it looks like 17 in the board is they put '2 instant' above the two instants in the board. The mono b list looks like it has some promise, I might give it a shot. I'd need to tinker with the board a bit, since I've got a fair bit of D&T in my area, but it looks fairly stable overall.
Necropolis Fiend in the sb looks interesting. It takes a lot to get it in play and use it's ability. Main deck looks like the most complicated MD I've seen. Lots of proactive cards which is great but a lot of playing around your own deck.
Yeah, it is like a BG/mono-B Pox hybrid, but with no Loams...
Adachi Ryosuke always plays a high impact permanent based version of Pox with tons of utility lands. I feel like his mana base is a little too fragile for my tastes, but I love the toolbox nature of the deck. Sideboard looks strong, Bitterblossom is great against Miracles, but the deck just looks like a near auto concede to Burn.
Sanitarium + Chains seems like a sick idea, basically a hard lock against every threat that doesn't have flash.
Idk about some parts of his list though
- No creatures but no Nether Spirit either (I guess the argument is that in G1 being your only creature just makes it a Swords magnet and I'm not sure what matchups you would want to board it in for) (EDIT: Although it's not your 'only' creature when you have Factory and Totem it's the only one that can be vulnerable at sorcery speed).
- I'm not sure Phyrexian Totem is very good (but I might be underrating the 'taps for mana' part), same for Spawning Pool (it might be fun to play Beseech the Queen with a bunch of 1-ofs but it seems difficult to justify).
- How good is Ensnaring Bridge when your only way to win without attacking is x2 Cursed Scroll? You can get away with drawing up to 2 to let your Factories through but your Totems definitely aren't going anywhere
If you're worried about burn it's probably not too hard to fit a couple of Collective Brutalities somewhere.
Has anyone been using Fatal Push? There was some discussion/disagreement when it was spoiled. Any results?

Contamination is obviously a huge part of this strat with 4x Bloodghast 2x Bitterblossom etc
Bitterblossom + Contamination seems iffy because it just slowly kills you but I guess you have time to draw out of it while your opponent can't do anything.
I'm not sure about x3 Containment Priest in the SB when you probably don't often want to board out Smallpox and it also turns your Nether Spirit / Bloodghast off.
He mentions playing Phyrexian Tower so you can turn 1 Entomb for Nether Spirit and then turn 2 Contamination which is a pretty cool idea.
I think playing Contamination vs not playing Contamination is a significant deckbuilding split because it's very much a 'build around' kind of card. At least Bitterblossom is very good against Miracles on its own, which is a plus. With more free creatures you also get to abuse Cabal Therapy which is often much harder for the normal mono-black versions.
Ultimately I don't much care for the bulk of his deck-building decisions. I feel like you want the ability to cast your non-b cards through contamination, especially if you plan on having them help you pay for contamination. I feel like the 9 1-mana discard is a touch excessive, and that split feels a bit awkward to me. I dislike how few answers he has to top/jace/graveyards. I also think I would want some way to just mass deal with creatures in the deck, even if it was a jitte or two to go with spirit tokens/bloodghast/blossom tokens. I can expand that first statement to just not having ways to deal with non-creature permanents (hello counterbalance/chalice). But meh, maybe I'm just crazy.
