4 Rhinos is probably the safest build to recommend to someone. It's just that some other players (including myself) are trying to get away from that build because of some weaknesses it has in the metagame. Getting away from 4 Rhinos is basically something of a holy grail in trying to find a build that's good against everything. I like my current build and the SFM people like theirs... but those builds still have weaknesses. If I were going to a GP it's 50/50 between playing my current build or playing 4x Rhinos.
Part of me feels like Nic Fit is a deck you can really only play with 2 byes though so you can dodge the glass cannon force check decks. That's not a bracket you'll do well in. If you can stay X-1 or X-2 you get great matchups. Just stay out of the Belcher division and out of the Miracles division
Thank you very much. I am expecting many Grixis Delver and some Eldrazi builds. So i think the Gitrog has to stay.
Siege Rhino didn`t do well for me ever since i build and tested it. I alsways thought it was too small.
Dromoka on the other side is a must play from my experience. She won me so many games.
Tireless tracker goes in i think. So do another Bayou and a second Savannah.
Gitrog
Meren
Tireless Tracker
Dryad Arbor
Seems nice together.
Gitrog doesn't line up well against either. Eldrazi and Delver both focus on mana denial and Chalice locks. Gitrog doesn't function well in those scenarios. You beat them by lowering your curve, the #1 way Nic Fit loses games is it falls victim to a mana denial plan and 5 drops don't help with that.
In an effort to spark a new discussion, has anyone had any success/experiences to share about Eldritch Evolution? Has it seemed worth it, or a bit too showy or win more?
I too would like to know if its worth getting a playset of or just let it fall to the way side. I would think in theory we could cut down on GSZ and push Eldritch with more creatures for sac outlet affects. I think the three arch types of the deck could work out well Abzan,Jund, and BuG. Abzan has many creatures to plug from, Jund can get Magus of the moon to stop most players it would help to get those none green creatures on board faster like other Titans Grave, Frost, and or Sun. I am not sure though I am only speculating that we can maybe make it work. Someone let me know because I have no idea how to DL or play on Cocatrice if thats the spelling sorry I am new still.
Evolution does not replace Zenith. GSZ lets us play 8+ dorky mana guys without making our lategame draws awful. Evolution does nothing if we want to stabilize early and need a creature.
Evolution also needs to get us enough value to be worth it, when we are making ourselves vulnerable to getting two for oned by countermagic. That means hatebears like Magus of the Moon, or game ending bombs.
IMO it's a bit too awkward - for the same reason Elves is dropping NO more and more. The increase in power is nice but the hit to consistency is not worth it.
I think Evolution would be a meta choice. There are a lot of nongreen utility creatures we could use. BUG Fit comes to mind instantly, but I don't know why. Maybe it's because a tutorable Consecrated Sphinx or other dumb blue creatures (Teferi? Triple blue, but greed is good) sounds awesome.

The problem with getting Magus is that your best creature to sacrifice is Veteran Explorer, which undoes all of Magus's work. You could cut the Veteran Explorer, but it's the Explorer/Therapy combo that makes the deck competitive in the first place.
The other problem with Evolution is that it simply doesn't do anything that Recurring Nightmare and Diabolic Intent don't already do better.
I and a friend are actually trying to build a list with Eldritch evolution, we're at this point for the moment and it works pretty well :

All comments and ideas are welcome !
There's little point to COMPLETELY warping your deck for two tutors, but it opens you up to the possibility of making cards like Sun titan a lot better with a few ways to tutor for it (especially if you're already on rhino fit with a lot of 4s) and sun titan + deed is just really unbeatable by a lot of decks. Its an idea, but I think it may just be too...limited on its uses to be super good.
Is anyone here running the Stoneforge package? I'm on the 1x Batterskull & 1x Jitte without any options in the SB. Has anyone tried SoFI or SoWP?
I'm also looking for a sample list of anyone cares to share or at least share the page where I might find one posted.

Are there any incredibly janky cards I can run for the lols or really fun cards? I feel like running a fun of or two.
I can feel Echelon's glaring eyes and angrily tapping his keyboard...

My nontraditional main deck cards: Strangleroot Geist, Woodland Bellower, Bone Splinters, Innocent Blood.
I found two cards that are pretty neat and do something different.
Nath of the Gilt-Leaf: Random discard is very powerful and he builds an army while doing it. If they're hellbent we're winning anyway.
Voice of Resurgence: Something here speaks to me, but I can't figure it out. Perhaps he can generate some odd value?
These are both most likely terrible, and I'm thinking more like a Modern player because of my meager Legacy experience. Thoughts?

Voice is good, but the problem is in finding room. It should see some play in Junk Pod lists, but that's about it. Voice is a great 2 drop but it doesn't really have a utility aspect, and the extra body doesn't come up often (lots of exile based removal in the format). It's best against Delver but we already crush Delver.
Nath has come up before but it's really just not very good. 4/4 for 5 mana is below curve, the extra value doesn't start until your next turn, if they play their cards rather than discard you get nothing, and if you're spending 5 mana, wouldn't you rather just have Sigarda?
Nath gets even worse in Modern where he's too much mana, too small, too slow, and too vulnerable.
Could it be possible to drop Rhino #4 from quadrhino and add one of the new liliana from EMN? It seems like it would really turn Miracles matches in our favor and it really destroys D&T. It can also help grind advantage vs. Shardless BUG although they have abrupt decay. I think it would be good because it can still kill a creature or return one before Abrupt Decay resolves in those match ups and it shoots down any creature in delver (yes, this is a good matchup already). The only problem with it is not being very good against Eldrazi except for the possible Strix recursion and shrinking creatures. Thoughts?
If you want to kill the occasional creature and screw midrange/control decks why wouldn't you just play Liliana of the Veil instead? Aside from cost reasons (though Last Hope is pretty expensive right now, so I'm not even sure cost applies)
Liliana of the Veil is actually quite bad for Nic Fit because discarding is worse for us. I think LtLH would be better because it doesn't force discard to uptick and it can kill vets and do a soft lock on creature decks with EWit and Deed.
If you're playing Liliana, at least in Nic Fit, you're going to build your deck in such a way that you have a window to discard without losing anything.
If you're just looking for a PW that kills things, Ob Nixilis is better and Sorin is even better than that.
Hey guys,
So question that i've been wrestling with for literally two years, was wondering if any of you could help me.
If this isn't the place to talk about this, sorry I guess?
So I have been unable to find a modern deck that I really really like to play. I played pod when it was around (peace be upon it), and obviously loved it as I am sure most of us did; it's the whole reason I checked this deck out in legacy in the first place.
Anyway, since then i've been unable to find a deck that really suits my playstyle. Nic Fit just works so perfectly because I love to tutor for things, playing extra basics in a turn is one of my favorite things in Magic, and decks that have an incidental combo but aren't dedicated to the combo are just the bee's knees - all of these things can be achieved with the Fit.
In modern though, any attempt at making a deck that in any way resembles this just flops horribly in any competitive setting. I've played Titan Shift, Melira Company, Emeria Control, Elves, Liege Rhino, mono green stompy, like 45 failed clone attempts at NicFit, Abzan Butts, Abzan constellation; none of them offer me the sort of things that this deck offers.
So basically that was just the longest possible way of asking "What do you guys play in modern?" Am I just stuck with Melira Chord as my only competitive option?
Again, I know this is a legacy forum, but the modern section here is deader than Survival of the Fittest, and I value you guy's input.
Thanks.
I would check out MTG Salvation. Their Modern discussion is alive and thriving

I had been playing Legacy for a couple years at the time, but I came to Nic Fit after playing some Modern Pod and being frustrated that blue couldn't be included in it. It basically seemed like a place to reuse the cards, and even continue to play Pod post ban (I've since realized they have almost zero cards in common). I tried Junk Pod and BUG Pod, but after spending somewhere between 1 and 1.5 years on the archetypes, I had to come to the conclusion that it just doesn't work.
I'm not a big fan of Pod in Nic Fit. GSZ and Pod are two very different engines, in fact I take this all the way to the point that I run a pretty small toolbox for my GSZ's (smaller than you'll find in most lists here) and instead focus on consistency. Any individual card in Legacy can be stopped, so I don't like relying on a specific piece like GSZ or Pod to make my deck function.
The Pod playstyle is something that in my opinion just can't be replicated again very easily.
To answer your question though, I'm not really sure it's on topic but the majority of my collection is Modern. I can play virtually anything in the format provided it uses the usual staples. Right now I play Jund and UG Infect but I've been known to play several Delver variants, Burn, Suicide Zoo, BUG Midrange, Abzan, UW Flash, UWr Geist, Twin (preban), Pod, Eggs, Faeries, BW Tokens, BW Humans, Knightfall, Big Zoo, Small Zoo, BTE Zoo, Grixis Control, Junk CoCo, Melira Company, and probably others. I'm basically that guy who will play something for a couple weeks and then switch it up, but 80% of the time I play something with black in it.
My natural instincts lead to me playing aggressive decks like Infect and Small Zoo the best, but I find draw/go like UW Flash to be the most fun. Midrange is the most boring for me but I'm pretty good at it, with the exception of tutor heavy midrange like Pod which I love.
This is also why I play Nic Fit, it hits the format from a different angle than the other midrange decks. My build has better card draw than blue, and a low mana curve. I can basically just chain cards forever, and ultimately win because I do 3 more things a turn than my opponent does.
To keep the thread on topic, since very little Modern discussion goes on anywhere on these boards, just PM me any questions you have about decks or the format and I'll try to answer. I don't think any tutor heavy decks are viable in Modern right now though. Kiki Chord has done the best out of all of them, and that deck isn't stable enough.
It's ok, but MTGS has an issue and it applies equally to Standard, Modern, and Legacy. They have a rule on those boards that you can only discuss the best cards for a slot, no budget discussion is allowed which for many people is problematic. The forums are basically filled with a bunch of people who pretend to have all the cards they're talking about, but are really only speculating. Then it leads into lots of pointless discussions over people trying to make the case for a budget card, as if it's actually a replacement for an expensive one, for example the Jund forum suddenly gaining a bunch of new posters who want to use Grim Flayer and Last Hope as their shortcut to the deck while not having Goyfs/LotV's.
Still, it's better Modern discussion than you'll find on Reddit.
6 mana, multiple bodies, and 10 power...
Is there a particular reason that recent Nic Fit lists have been turning away from the grave titan plan? Is there any value in this multiple creature line of plan or is the 6cmc just a little much? What changed to the format that reduced the appearance/viability of Grave Titan?

- Sits in hand because of huge CMC
- Not Zenithable
- Has trouble with Terminus
- Doesn't block the decks most likely to be swinging at us for lethal (Delver and Marit Lage)
Basically there aren't any decks he's particularly good against other than Shardless, since Miracles has good answers (counters, Terminus) and he's too slow for aggro decks. Against combo decks you want your threats to cost less mana so you can pressure earlier, and preferably be Zenithable rather than waiting to draw them naturally. Shardless is already a pretty good matchup, and our other threat options (blue walkers, Sigarda, Meren, Thragtusk) are still fine there and more relevant elsewhere.
What about a zenithable 6cmc multi body creature with total power 10? Armada Wurm
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing has really changed, people are just trying to be a bit more competitive by lowering the CMC of the deck, thereby speeding things up. It's a bit of a balance issue though because we're a ramp deck so we should be using that extra mana.
The problem with Armada Wurm is that it doesn't actually do anything, vanilla 5/5's aren't all that great. Look at Gurmag Angler, it's a 2 of in a couple decks and that's all. Tack on some extra mana and it just doesn't line up well.
I think saying "It's bad against Terminus" isn't really a fair argument because every creature is bad against Terminus. It's a board wipe, it's what's they do.

Thanks for the tip. I thought that the creature being green and two bodies having trample might make them relevant, it sounds like it might not be worth testing.

Has anyone here tried gut shot in an abzan list?
Seems like a good removal spell for decks where you're wanting to lower the curve.
Mostly for infect, grixis delver and hate bears.
Hits delver and young pyro, infect dudes, mum, and revoker. Lesser extent also thalia.
I'm trying it as a 2 of in the board.
