Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I was also surprised to see the dramatic spike on ports. I think what feline said was spot. In addition to those factors, it should be noted that masques was a pretty unpopular set. It was much less powerful than Saga, which it followed, and Saga also caused a big drop in player base due to the crazy combo meta and resulting bannings.
If you compare port to cradle while assuming that the current cradle costs are appropriate, the new port costs seem justifiable. While cradle has a much bigger casual appeal, port is much more common in competitive legacy decks. Port is also played in Lands, which I don't believe has been mentioned in this discussion.

In that, maybe, MAYBE, that's the cause of the spike for Ports. Beyond that, well, that's all I can come up with for a theory.
It's a good card with a very powerful effect that isn't duplicated by anything else. It's also quite an old card (and a rare from a large set that wasn't opened like saga or invasion) that hasn't been reprinted in any form at any time.
In saying that, I'm sure you can pick up cheap copies now and then (in a way that you couldn't with say a dual or fetch land).

Bob getting reprinted as Mythic in Modern Masters.
And the new art blows imho.

Anyways, with bob back on the Pro tour, they needed to update his pic.
I would have gone for this one myself:

Yeah, at least they didn't change the gender! Can you imagine how horrible that would have been?! HOW WOULD WE PLAY THE GAME? /sexism-induced-sarcasm
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Glad to see Legacy staples being reprinted in MM. More staples out there can only be a good thing for the growth of Legacy.

When they ban Cradle which might be a possibility now.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
LOL cmon bro. If Tabernacle and Candelabra can run around without bannings, Cradle will be fine. The decks that run it aren't oppressive. You crazy kids need to slow your roll.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I bought out some Cradles, Cliques and Dark Depths.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Clique gets a bit better, but it's not super busted like Cradle has become.
Cradle is really, really good in Elves. We were trying it tonight and it really helped Elves get over an initial Glimpse hump.

It's not gonna be about the price, but how busted it would be in the right deck. I'm all for non-bans, all I'm saying is with the new ruling, it makes it possible to be banned.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
You guys should never read the news. Your brains would explode with cries of "Death of the Ga-World! Death of the World!"
It's possible it could be banned. If suddenly Elves becomes an oppressive part of the metagame, consistently taking up 4/8 Top 8 slots. But rational humans know that isn't going to happen.
This isn't even really the correct thread for this discussion. But let's assume Elves is the best place to abuse Cradle. As a longtime Elves pilot, I know what beats the deck. And having a supercharged Cradle doesn't negate the cards and strategies that beat me. Those things still exist. At best, SuperCradle will make Elves a more consistent Turn 3 deck. It's already a pretty consistent Turn 3 deck. These are arbitrary numbers, but going from a 65% Turn 3 kill rate to an 85% kill rate does not a bannable deck make. ANT is still a thing. TES is still a thing. We can ban those too, right?
New SuperCradle is cool and everything, but you guys should really rethink your overusage of the B-word.
Edit - we have been Cradle>Crop Rotation>Cradling for quite some time now. It's okay guys. We won't take over the world.
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I could see cradle being banned easily. It is no longer an easily disrupted 3 card combo from cradle to rotation to cradle, but an uncounterable ritual effect. I am willing to bet if it even gets a little out of hand it will be banned. The main thing that will keep it in check is the price of the card, not very many people are going to be willing to pop $500 + if they do not have them.
On another note I did grab some Russia flagstones before they jump in price, I see this going from a relative cheap price to doubling at least over the next few months as the rules change takes effect. Dark + Stage may be another combo that takes off in price. I am going to pick up a playset or 2 extra of those as well.

Cradle to rotation is a 2 card combo, not 3. While cradles are definitely better now, I think everyone is overlooking the role crop rotation played in the deck. Rotation allows you to rotate into a cradle AFTER making your land drop (comes up quite often mid-glimpse combo). Furthermore, you can rotate into utility lands such as horizon canopy, pendelhaven, bojuka bog, and karakas. It also counters a wasteland activation. Of course, this lets you play anywhere from 4 to 8 cradles with fewer drawbacks now. However like Daniel stated, it just makes the deck more consistent on turn 3 while slightly improving your turn 2 play (no card disadvantage from rotation). The bad matchups for the deck are still bad matchups (i.e. faster combo & miracle control). Ban-worthy? I think not.
