Run Kird Ape/Loam Lion, Steppe Lynx is a terrible control card
Printable View
Yeah, some lists have showed up with at least a singleton Terravore. Im trying it out today, and only because zoo makes good use of GSZ. Also i am trying 1 CE selkie in SB, against blue decks. the extra draws with exalted is awesome. and is just as easy to zenith as terravore.
Im hoping to bluff some times for x=3, and surprise people with a 10/10 trample terravore or a 'draw alot-a-cards' selkie instead of the usual knight.
Terravore is indeed good in the Big Zoo lists, for breaking ground stalls and racing Progenitus, against which Zoo is otherwise cold.
Burning-Tree Shaman may warrant some testing as a tutor target out of the board against stuff like Lands or ThopterTop.
I think GSZ opened some doors to zoo. I don't think we cant take less than 3.
In my list (well, im testing very hard these days) run 4, and no one sylvan.
basically, i run 20 lands, 21 creatures, 19 spells. PoP md, and I switched all chain lightning to Helix, cuz its strongest in mirror.

So i run 3 zenith too, with 4 ape.
And 4 zenith, 4 ape and 2 lavamancer.
Ended up 3-1 with my posted list. Beat Elves, Affinity and Burn. Lost to Natural Horizons.
Anyway, in a fast zoo shell is 2 Knight of the Reliquary with 20 land enough to consistently to fetch out a Karakas versus Show and Tell etc. decks?
I always ran 4 KotR with 20 land (with horizon canopy as well).
Has any body who plays GSZ considered having a non graveyard depended fatty in the deck to tutor up. I def see people side in relic vs me. Not sure if they should be but it does hamper a decently large portion of the deck offence/board control. I guess the only choice really to fill that role is woolly thoctor. Prob not worth doing but was just wondering if anyone else had though about it
I use a 1 of Thrun as a tutor target and he's been really good
this was the deck i run last March 20 here in the Philippines and i got the champion. here's my list

I've got a question,
I've never played against artifact, and I've heardit's going really fast so..
waht to do against them, is it a bad or good matchup or?
and what to sideboard in a meta liek this:
zoo, gobblins, merfolk, artifact, some control and combo
Thinking like this:
1 gaddock teeg
3 REB
1 loaming shaman
1 POP
2 choke
2 firespout (is it that fast that we need those or not?)
2 relic of prog
any other options?
edit: Is Leonin Arbiter and Phyrexian Revoker playable, you need to pay to look your fetch lol (not ereally good) and phyrexian seems quite good but idk...
Im thinking of starting to play Zoo in Legacy and I have some question.
1) How is Zoo positioned to current meta?
2) Has anyone ever thought about playing Bloodbraid Elf in Big Zoo? (Edit: Just realized that then you cant play Zenith)
3) What is the consensus here, is Big Zoo better than the reqular version of Zoo? What matchup's are better for Big Zoo and what are worse?
What does the Zoo crowd think about PFire/Grove? Do you think that, given the tutorpower the deck offers thanks to GSZ, the inclusion of PFire + Grove as some sort of inevitability in matchups where you have to assume the control role or where infinite reach comes in handy (preboard against Control, for example), is worth it?
I was wondering whether PFire was any good in this deck because my testing showed me that Horizon Canopy is quite meh - sure, you can tutor for it during lategame, but I mainly used it as a pain land. I literally never could use it to draw a card because I rarely ran out of gas - GSZ is a house.
The inclusion of PFire + Grove would essentially serve the same purpose as Horizon Canopy - provide additional gas for the lategame.
Also, as a beatstick that doesn't rely on the GY, how about Raging Ravine? It soaks up a ton of mana each turn, but it grows and is immune to FSpout, WoG and isn't impressed by Humility.
I'd say Zoo is a viable choice in the current metagame, even though it's not as popular as it used to be.
People have played Bloodbraid Elf. There's even some discussion on that in this thread. I can't comment much because I've never tried the card. For the time being, I'm not going to either, since cascading into Lightning Bolt/ Chain Lightning/ Path to Exile seems bad. And four mana is quite a stretch in traditional Zoo. I'd rather play Elspeth then. On the other hand, Green Sun's Zenith is much better in more midrange builds.
I wouldn't call either version of Zoo strictly superior. It depends on your preferences and style of playing as well as the metagame. I currently prefer Big Zoo. It's more flexible, packs more answers and stronger creatures, although it's fundamentally slower. I've found it to be much better against Counterbalance.
I'd mostly play Punishing Fire/ Grove of the Burnwillows to reliably beat tribal decks like Goblins or Merfolk. Although versus Merfolk, you're already favoured. Goblins, on the other hand, can sometimes be a pain with Big Zoo. In the end, it comes down to whether you prefer Grim Lavamancer or a two card combo not dependant on the graveyard but more mana intensive.
Raging Ravine might be an interesting idea. It competes with Treetop Village as a playable manland in Zoo. Firespout and Wrath of God aren't so scary for Big Zoo though.
Right, first time poster, long time reader.
I have been following this thread for a few months and I've been slowly building my own zoo deck. My first major tournament will be in 2 weeks and i wanted to get some feedback on my current list. i have'nt put any effort into the sideboard yet.
Ps, the meta seems to be vert open. The only trend I have noticed is Bant aggro being popular and also some ANT and CBtop.
The deck,
22 Creatures
4 Wild Nacatl
4 Goblin Guide
1 Terravore
4 Qasali Pridemage
4 Tarmogoyf
2 Knight of the Reliquary
2 Grim Lavamancer
1 Gaddock Teeg
17 other spells
1 Sylvan Library
4 Green Sun’s Zenith
4 Chain Lightning
3 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Bolt
1 Fireblast
21 Lands
3 Arid Mesa
3 Wooded Foothills
2 Windswept Heath
2 Plateau
2 Taiga
1 Horizon Canopy
1 Skarrg, the Rage Pits
1 Savannah
1 Forest
1 Plains
4 Wasteland
Interesting list there. Seems good to me. Has it bothered you that Goblin Guide and Wasteland conflict a bit? I'd suggest squeezing in some Price of Progress if possible. That card is often overlooked/ underrated.
Yeah it has :P
I've been meaning to cut the Guide for something else but can't seem to find a good replacement.
PoP could be good but not sure what to cut for it, something from the "other spells" but I cant realy find anything.
Steppe Lynx could replace Goblin Guide. As for Price of Progress, I'm having trouble finding cards to take out as well. If you have space left in the sideboard, you can play it there.
Try Steppe Lynx over Goblin Guide :)
Personally I stick with Fireblast instead of PoP. My meta has plenty of decks that run mostly basic lands. Unless your meta is littered with decks that have plenty of non-basics I'd just shove them in the board.
