Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
It helps a match-up that is 5% of a large metagame, why is that more important than using those slots on a match-up that matters more? Like Threshold or Landstill? In those match-ups Dark Confidant is too slow, against anything with Force of Will you want to be aggressive and win as fast as possible. Not dragging the game out.

I could use the same argument for Xantid Swarm. He don't speed you up... But he is amazing, and is very good at doing one think, stopping counters which indirectly speeds you up, not haveing to be able to play around force, you can just ignore the force.
Confidant acts much the same way. He allows you to combat discard, and if you have a slower hand, swarm isn't going to speed it up.
I'm by no means advocating pulling combo pieces to board him in, just the matches where swarm is dead, so you are boarding in something that has a TINY advantage (for you) over the null advantage of swarm.
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
When playing combo, you want to board in good cards that improves a particular matchup. I don't believe Dark Confidant does that at all. I would rather bring in cards against a control matchup that will help me win the game by stopping there counter magic. Do you really want to speed up the clock against control or by to buy enough time to win the game if your not able to do so in the first few turns?
Designing the sideboard to help improve your not so favorable matchups is the whole damn goal. I wish you guys would just obsessing about Dark Confidant and think of more sound solutions in improves the control matchup.

There's a difference in fundamentals here, Xantid Swarm allows you to negate Force of Will on turn two. Which speeds you up (as you said). Dark Confidant allows you to somewhat (not always gauranteed) play around Force of Will but much later in the game, mainly because you need a lot of turns to gain the advantage off of Dark Confidant. More than likely he will be dead by then. Giving your opponent more time is the exact opposite thing you want to do.
I agree that Xantid Swarm doesn't speed up games, however, that's not the issue. The issue is you're wasting valuable sideboard slots on a card that is opposite your gameplan which is terrible. The sideboard slots that you are using should be used to fight back against Control, not randomness. Dark Confidant rarely lives against control, you're better off playing Pyroblast/Reb, additional Chants, or Defense Grid.
In match-ups where Xantid is dead you simply board in wish targets that aren't dead. Such as Cruel Bargain, Duress, ect... It's better to do this because if Xantid Swarm is a dead card that means your match-up is probably favorable anyways.

I already run the extra chants, and REB/Pyro just seem janky...
I will agree my board has been much less toolboxy with confidants AND Chants, AND the auto 4 taking up all the slots...
I'm still not sold on the no confidant thing, but thats what testing is for...

This is the exact point I was making. Instead of wasting those slots to bring in confidants, you want to add cards that enables you to combo faster. If Xantid Swarm is a dead card, then the matchup should basically be a bye which you just win. I don't understand how dark confidant is so good when compared to some of your wish targets that can easily be boarded in?

Because wish targets are 1of's and if i board them in, it cuts my ability to wish for them...

Don't be remedial. For example, you never wish for Infernal Contract in matchups where you board out Xantid Swarm. Against Goblins it's only good turn 1 (maybe, maybe 2 if they led vial) off a rit, and you keep xantid swarm in against decks that can chant you (aka the discard decks). Is it so hard to identify which cards aren't as good when you wish for them against aggro?
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
Tournament report with new list is up!
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
I think Nights wisper is better then Dark confidant. Dark confidant must stay 3 turns to be better than Nights wisper. But i think he will also cost you more life than wisper. Dark confidant is also dead whene you see it on turn 3...

aww, you spoiled my tech...
i have been running Tinder Wall in the deck over plunge for a while...
I never though of xantid though, i'm going to try that out...
BTW, i don't know what you were smoking a few months ago when you said Plunge was a godsend, with the inclusion of Cruel Bargin, there is no way i ever play the card, and unless i'm playing it turn one, and comboing that turn or next, i hate seeing it...
Edit: Also, how can you run only 1 tendrils, i only have 3 SSG, cause 2 tendrils is 100% needed with D Returns...

There's nothing wrong with the card per say, but now that Tarmogoyf has increased Threshold's clock, you really can't afford the life loss any more. I'm fond of Night's Whisper in that slot, but 2 additional Diminishing Returns and/or MD Draw 4s are also appealing.
Is Tinder Wall better than Tomb of Urami? I'd rather have a mana source that doubles as a threat than a blocker.
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
I like tinder wall. Can't wait to test it. I don't think i agree on chant over xantid. I have really had so many games where I just don't have that 1 white mana to be able to combo and chant.
On the 2 tendrils 1 is realyl enough cause of wish, although i currently run 2 tendrils and 2 warrens since everyone in my area is prepare for warrens. Thats really just a metacall. I don't like going up to 5 wincons maindeck. It's not good to get a pair of them unless you have a chrome mox to throw one on.
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
I was very happy with Tinder Wall all weekend if you read my report it won me several game son its own. I can't say in any of my testing in the past that Night's Whisper has done this, I haven't tested it as of late. Although, I will say I cut Plunge because of how clunky the card can be. Everyone who plays the deck knows what I'm talking about, opening up hands full of 2cc cards. It sucks. I opted for additional acceleration in place of tutors or draw, this is because acceleration is rarely clunky unlike Plunge. If I ever decided to play more draw it'd be Serum Visions to set up a turn 2 win as opposed to a turn 3 win with Whisper. I can't describe how good Visions has been in testing, I may play visions over Tinder Wall. Although, if I decided to play Visions I'll probably find room for more.
All day saturday I was having a hard time with Mulligans because of lack of finding ways to find tutors which is going to lead me to play Visions.

Which is why i didn't run desprite ritual over the tinder wall, i just couldn't deal with having to have a Mox/Petal to start comboing turn 1...

Couldn't you play portent over serum visions?
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
Whats with you virginians and portent? Honestly? In combo, card now > card later.
Re: [Deck] TES - The EPIC Storm
Night Whispers isn't a turn 2 card tho', it can be cast off of a land and Chrome Mox for card advantage or a land and SSG or Lotus Petal for a pseudo Brainstorm on turn 1. Give it a shot, it's fairly solid, altho' it may be worse than adding bombs.

What is up with the suggestion of Portent all the time? It is good, but in a combo deck I would run Serum Visions first, its not even close. I wonder why no one likes Calosso. :)
