But if we at any point try to overpower our opponent by establishing a new combo, they'll often have the edge because they haven't been using accels or tutors, but cantrips. This land won't end those situations entirely, but can be quite helpful. In the grindy games we might come by it, and we can power down our opponent little by little as we're drawing two cards a turn, especially with a top to assure quality.
I'm not sure how it will work out, but I know that a land that draws you cards is good. Very good. And this is one of the decks that naturally fulfill it's condition.
Of course, I know we should always focus on having the deck as quick and stompy as possible in the main, but I seriously can't see how turning 1 basic into colorless can screw up so much that we deny its effect.
Kolaghan's was discussed a good while back when we were splashing black for Slaughter Games and E.Plague. 3 mana whereas 1 is black is a lot to ask for, but I believe some had success during that time, the effect is awesome after all.
I feel 6 mana, preferably 7 to protect with blast, is a bit much to ask for in legacy, even in this deck. But maybe it can be a Koth that gives us a little bit value even if removed.. sceptical due to cost, but maybe :)
I feel like if I really wanted a 6 mana threat I'd prefer to run Wurmcoil Engine so I can weld it a bunch. Thats just me though, maybe new Chandra isn't that bad (but I'm pretty sure it is)

This is one of the reasons why I think leaning on E.Tutor isn't alwasy the best choice. There are pros and cons of course, and for a while anyway E.Tutor was really needed to improve some key match-ups, that just were hard to win without specific key cards. We're alwasy going to be behind against decks with cantrips, but we don't have to put ourselves even farther behind.
Other things that I think hurts our deck... foucsing on beating a particular deck in the meta instead of the meta as a whole. (Lot's of talk about Miracles... not much talk about anything else...)

Problem with wurmcoil is that you are bringing in this threat against things like Miracles, and they will just swords it you don't get crap. Chandra is very expensive but it is exactly the Planeswalker we are looking for. It does 6 points of damage per swing instead of 4 (Koth) and doesn't put your lands at risk. It draws cards and potentially puts cards in your graveyard to weld. And it has a VERY good creature removal ability. Again, the only thing holding me back is 6. Even at 5 I would say this card is great. 6 admittedly is a little tough, unless you were only going to bring this in when you were siding out your blood moons.

If they swords your Wurmcoil it's underwelming for sure, but you don't get exactly nothing... you get 6 life and one less swords in there hand.
Though I agree, I'm not personally planning to bring in the Wurmcoil anytime soon.
On the otherhand... anyone thought about Batterskull?
Pros- Works with Welder, Nigh Impossible to Deal with, Gains Life like a Champ? Cheaper.... then Wurmcoil?
Cons- cost 5, isn't really what our deck wants to be doing most of the time.
It seems like it would be good in those grindy games... and also makes it harder for Miracles to use Mentor to just blow you out.

Oh yes... Lot's of people have played with Batterskull in the board at some point, including myself. Some people used to actually run a stoneforge package in the SB. It actually isn't bad against Miracles and is also good against burn. They can definitely deal with it though. And for me it just didn't feel like it was doing enough. This was also a time when Miracles win con was Entreat. Maybe things have changed now that most forms of Miracles are now beating down with Mentors and other 2-3 power dorks.

I'll get a report up ASAP.

Hey, how is the continued testing of Ghirapur AEther Grid doing?
Are you getting second thoughts about the Mox Opals or is the mana base working for you?
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Chandra is much worse with an ensnaring lh7 bridge than koth. Also it's pretty easy to get koth out on turn two
Which is often game over. Chandra is much harder to rush out. I think if you were disappointed by daretti you will be more so with Chandra. Their draw will probably not be much off from each other but he is more synergistic

New Chandra from OGW? It is quite easy to see that it's problematically expensive to cast. It has all the best abilities but the deck is designed to drop three, max four mana bombs. Six is just too much.
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Yeah, I've just been watching in games where I would be dropping the new Chandra vs my current beater and I'm never even close on mana. Thus, I agree that the new Chandra is probably unplayable in this deck, unfortunately.
As for the Opal build with aether grid, definitely still on it. I keep wanting to get more artifacts in the deck for it as sometimes I have the grid and just 1-2 artifacts out. But it's still quite good and I have no immediate plans to take it out. I went as far as to get a foil copy and 2 foil opals so far. I'm still considering 3 opals vs 2 opals/1 LED.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I ended up going a 2-3 drop in the Quest for Power 9 tournament playing RW painter. A little disappointing but painter is always super fun to play so I can't really complain. The matchups were:
0 - 2 Shardless
2 - 1 4 color nic fit
0 - 2 D&T
2 - 1 deathblade
1 - 2 D&T
I wasn't able to get much going in the shardless and the d&t matchups even though I ended up 3 for 1ing both of my d&t opponents. The koth didn't do much work however I don't think I really played against a lot of decks where I would bring in a bomb like that. I think that for the next time I am going to go something like +1 kiran and pia/aether grid and -1 koth. This has been discussed to death in this thread already but koth feels pretty mediocre right now.

3 City of Traitors

Ouch on losing to Shardless. Shardless is usually pretty good for us since a resolved (and not imidately Abrupt Decayed) Bloodmoon or Magus of the Moon, is usually lights out.
Yeah Koth is not what you wanted to see against those decks, but I wouldn't remove him based only on that...

Yeah absolutely. Game 1 was a beating; I had a freshly played welder, a great furnace and a mountain and 2 recruiters to chump block a 6/7 goyf for a while with a painter in my yard and with my hand being bridge, pyro, reb. Sadly he drew the maelstrom pulse for the recruiters and edicted my welder and there was no coming back from there. Game 2 I think I just kept a slow hand because I assumed that the game was probably going to be a long and grindy one.
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Happy New Years my homies. I'll get back to streaming, posting shit, and running paper tounraments way more this year. Stay p3k pimpin
And yes i am fucking bombed right now for new years
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Not much have been going on as of late, so that sounds good!
There's finally a bigger legacy tournament in Norway featuring 8 qualification rounds into a final championship, so crossing my fingers for some good stats and reports during the year.
Oh, and Happy New year!
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Hello? This thing on?
The thread is very quiet lately so I thought I would throw a couple thoughts on here to maybe spur some interest...
First, as the new set continues to be spoiled, I think a couple cards go up in value. The biggest one for me right now would be Magus. I currently am playing 4 x blood moon and 0 Magus in my 75. However, with all the new colorless spells, I think 12 post, lands and other colorless lands will gain popularity. I think magus makes sense again as it is a very good weapon against post. Not to mention that BUG strategies are already popular right now, and a well timed Magus is also very good in that MU.
I've been playing 3 x Leylline of Sanctity in my SB and I am feeling some pressure to take them out. I really like them against storm, burn and discard strategies like shardless. But they do take up a lot of space in the board. So if I want to include Magus they may need to come out. I am still playing 1 x Canonist and 1 x revoker in the main. I am also running a trinisphere, RIP, and tormod's in the SB. I would like to add at least one other card for storm to the SB. Does anyone have any good tech for this MU? I don't really want another taxing card and I like cards with legs. Is there any other card that has good game against both Storm and burn? Witchbane was a consideration but just seems slow... and bad. Maybe try batterskull again? Again, seems slow. But it does have game against several strategies (including Miracles). Is null brooch playable? Doesn't seem like it. Any fresh ideas out there?
p.s. still really like grid + opals. Although I have pretty much settled on a 2 opal/1 LED split. Turn 1 wins are very possible now. I actually drew a turn one hand that had no lands in it! Good times.

You might want to consider scab-clan berserker even though it doesn't help against burn. But in every other MU it puts a ton of pressure on the opponent, especially if he is (partly) locked out. Against storm he often is game, way better than traxing effects...

The absence of combo and increase of moon-suspecible strategies (especially in local meta) turned me over to Mono-red build. 1 Magus in main and 1 in Side have been awesome!
In the storm debate, I'd say 5 cards that's really strong against them should be enough. Don't forget that you also got 2+1 tutors that find all of these, and a draw on any of the 8 cards is the best shot we got against them. They sometimes just win turn 1-2, and then it pretty much doesn't matter how much hate we got.
I also think Scab-Clan is way to slow to have any impact at all against storm, but not sure what to say about it against other matchups.
I tried the opalgrid setup, but I didn't dig it quite as much. Having a Opal in play instead of a petal proved to be somewhat awesome later, but not early. Sometimes I didn't have the metalcraft, so Turn 1 moons almost never happened, and opponents could wasteland Great Furnaces (much more devastating that they waste red source than Ancient Tomb ex.). The Grid can be devastating against elves and DnT, otherwise it's mediocre unless you got 4+ artifacts.. thus I feel it's a bit win-more, or there could be a better card at 3 mana. I never won against miracles with it either. But cool idea tho, I can see it working in it's own way for some.
Edit: Darklingske, picture's not showing. Which card is it?
