Hi,
how do you guys play against D&T with just 1 copie of Wipe in SB?
I feel like its so hard to deal with Mother+Thalia, especially when they get them around T2-3.
I know that, but we just play 1 copy + Snapcaster, so i feel like its so difficult, but maybe im just playing the MU wrong...
Some advices?
Generally, they only have thalia that is going to slow us down, and you only need one wipe to work so you can bounce then go off. D&T isn't that quick of a clock so it shouldn't be a problem.
sometimes, you can also just resolve another high tide to pay her toll.
Actually, not always once because you often have to deal with a vial @ 2. And a competent DnT will leave his vial @ 2 because Thalia is their best bet against us. So even if Mom cannot interact with wipe away, you are screwed if a vial @ 2 is in play.
I played Solidarity this week end.
Didn't shine at all. Went 3 draws in a row and scoop'ed to go home. Shitty meta.
Round 1 -> MUD
Round 2 -> DnT
Round 3 -> Tezz Control
At least to be positive, those were (MUD & DnT) matchups I am used to losing a lot. So in some way, I could see an improvement.
1) I am siding better
2) But I am siding to much "control" oriented.
I guess I have yet to find the "golden mid-way".
Note: I was NOT the slow guy.
Last night, I played a similar list to Mackan's just with a few minor changes to suit our meta. Currently, our store doesn't play much in the way of Delver and all the decks are either super fair (Death and Taxes had a reasonable showing) or super unfair (Storm variants/Show and Tell).
That said, I didn't build it or play it to beat any meta, but rather as a statement deck.
Match 1: Ad Naseum Tendrils
Game 1: We land-go for a few turns, then he casts a Duress and I instantly figure out what's going on. I hide the two copies of High Tide with Brainstorm and proceed to let him go off, just wanting to see if he played Burning Wish or not. I kept a very attrition-based hand and I had no clue what I faced until after.
Game 2: Things come to a boil on turn 4; he begins with a Duress and I Brainstorm with 2 other Brainstorms in my hand, making an attempt to either find and tuck a counter or bluff that I tucked one. I find nothing but lands, but bluff it anyway. He calls me on it and starts going off. On his last Infernal Tutor, I use my other 2 Brainstorms to find a Flusterstorm tucked 3 cards deep. He was pretty devastated. We played it out 'til I showed him I was on High Tide with ALL the pieces in my hand.
Game 3: I flusterstorm him early, and then threaten him with Snapcaster + Flusterstorm. I stop him twice, but he goes a third time but miscounts at drain 18. I kill him with Snapcaster beats from 38. It was very satisfying.
Result: 2-1
Match 2: Fish
Game 1: Fairly slow from him as he mulled to death, however I found a sideboard card somehow in my main (Polymorphist's Jest) so I called the judge over and scooped. I learned that I was meant to do something funky and keep playing but I don't mind.
Game 2: Again, he mulls himself to death but eventually picks up a reasonable board state. We initiate a counter-war that results in me attempting to combo off, but there was an alternate line that I didn't take but should have. On a Dig Through Time, 7 cards of gas and in reality, I should have taken Snap + Cunning Wish to create big storm, assemble a block to not die and kill him with Brain Freeze, but instead I attempted to draw more cards from Meditate and bricked on 4 lands.
Result: 0-2
Match 3: Omni-Show
Game 1: Land-go and cantripping for weeks from us, and then we fight multiple wars over Show and Tell. Eventually I counter all 4 and it's over.
Game 2: We derp around and it looks like we're going to time, but my friend owed me a favour from a previous draw/loss-looking game and he scooped to me. That said, I did counter 3 Show and Tells.
Result 2-1
Match 4: Death & Taxes
Game 1: I let him play a fairly reasonable D&T opening; Mom - Thalia - SFM - Mindcensor. He let me play a boring land-go game and I conceded. He didn't see anything, so he didn't sideboard.
Game 2: Out went 3 Flusterstorms, in came 3 Snaps. He played a Thorn of Amethyst which I just let sit there for a while. Went and grabbed Hurkyl's Recall and with about 90 lands in play, bounced his stuff and combo'd off with Blue Sun's Zenith
Game 3: His turn 2 Thalia gets countered and he tries porting me, but that doesn't really matter. I buy myself a turn with Snap bouncing a Mind Censor when he wanted to equip it with a Sword of Fire and Ice. He plays it again, attacks me for a moderate amount but on the Draw trigger, I go off and dig halfway through my deck for a Snapcaster Mage/Cunning Wish to Brain Freeze him. Most exciting!
Final Result: 3-1.
I liked the deck, it was a lot of fun and wasn't too far out of my comfort zone as a control player. I think it'll be my deck choice for next week as well. The sideboard needed a bit of a tune-up, but the main was super solid with the Thought Scours powering Dig Through Time, which is really what makes the deck go. God, Dig Through Time is so busted.
Cards I'd like to try in sideboard slots include: Echoing Truth, AEtherspouts, Ravenous Trap, Mindbreak Trap.
With the amount of dirty combo players, I definitely think some number of traps would be very wise. We don't have too much in the way of Daze/Spell Pierce and Thoughtsieze/Hymn control decks, but I could also consider a miser Misdirection.
Nice run Missbelle and thanks for the report!
I played the same list again yesterday.
M1 - Miracles.
G1 He applied no pressure and had no CB so I just waited until he played jace turn 6 and responded to him activating Jace's brainstorm ability by going off and brain freezing him.
I sided +1 wipe away +1 PLA +1 snap -2 opt -1 high tide. I think most miracles lists have moved away from RIP but if you know they have it then thought scour is worse than Opt. I would also swap a DTT for a turnabout if I see RIP.
Siding out one high tide to cunning wish for is allways fine. There's a risk they have surgical extraction and this matchup is slow anyways meaning you don't need multiples. The snap is a for meddling mage and/or canonist aswell as bouncing your snapcaster mage (they have no removal postboard). Swan Song over Flusterstorm is also an option but I think a hardcounter in the lategame is more powerful as a wish target.
G2 I forced a Canonist, he Forced back (pitching CB) and I flusterstormed the fow. He played CB into top and I died some turns later.
G3 We traded back and forth and I was flooding out a little. He beat me down with a canonist until the point where my PLA came down and blocked it. Then it killed him in 2 swings. Pretty fun stuff.
M2 - BUG (Bob, Daze, goyf, DRS, discard)
I was forced to try and go off from 3 lands turn 4-5. I went high tide (daze) to which I responded with another high tide that resolved, then reset to be able to pay for the daze and then continue with meditate and reset. His last cards were fow+blue to stop the first reset and I lost.
I knew he was on surgical extraction (aswell as force of will, more discard, clique, liliana, sylvan library and a couple of flusterstorms.... yikes). So I sided out 1 high tide for a Brain Freeze and switched a reset for a turnabout. Even if he removes wish/reset/high tide I can perhaps generate enough storm for a Brain Freeze kill. Atleast I have a plan.
The plan did not work out and Bob made sure he was allways ahead on cards. I formulated a new plan involving enough snapcasters to beat him down on the back of a turnabout on his team (+ some "lucky" flips from Bob). he found some cantrips to manage the life total and I lost.
M3 - Dredge.
He won the roll and wanted to go first. No manaless then.
I kept a hand with some lands and spells (including brainstorm). I figured I had to get lucky anyway and on the draw there is no point to mulligan for interaction against his deck where on the play I can find both flusterstorm and fow. Solidarity need 3-4 lands and 3-4 cards to go off so a mulligan hurt us a lot. He basicly had the nuts with Coliseum, Led, breakthrough and looting and I died.
I was going to put a Ravenous trap in my board but couldn't find any before the event...punished. I decided to bring my misers' Surgical Extraction because it's to slow as a Cunning Wish for this matchup. I also sided in my Turnabout to speed things up. I removoed a DTT and a Wish.
I kept a 7 with lands, surgical and a snapcaster mage. I just want to buy time so I removed his first dredger and looked through his deck. I saw both Darksteel Colossus (to answer the grindstone guy) and Memory's Journey so I knew a BF kill would not cut it (unless paired with something else). Next turn he played a Careful Study discarding 2 Bridges. I decided to play Snapcaster removing them. It's not the beast thing to remove since he had no dredger but Snapcaster could go the distance (especially paired up with a buddy) so I tried not to be greedy. I then played a land and passed (surprise!) and he drew a cephalid coliseum to get things going. He bricked on a dredger and next turn he drew something like a Careful Study and found a stinkweed imp to discard. Next turn he dredged and therapied me for Time Spiral (one of the reasons to play this deck I guess...). I had a great hand and killed him with bsz next turn.
G3 He had a very nutty hand and facing lethal I had to go for it with 3 lands in play. I managed to maneouver and resolve 2 high tide as well as 3 reset. I had a wish as my only gas left in hand so decided that I had to go for BSZ because with only 1 wish left in the deck (I sided one out) I needed the other to echoing truth my snapcasters mage to be even close to generate enough mana to bsz him to death. I drew 6 cards with 2 mana left for reset and 1 mana for a cantrip but did not find a reset to keep going.
M4 TES
I knew what he was on and kept a 1-lander with 2x flusterstorm, 1x fow and a brainstorm. I found my lands and killed him after he failed to go off. He was quite new with the deck so I felt bad when I told him he could not sac LED when I allready ok-ed his Infernal Tutor. I had a Force of will anyways so it was probably better to make him aware of the interaction the hard way.
I don't think I sided anything and I was actually pretty tired at this point and decided to just have fun. And fun did I have! Even though some combopieces were discarded I made him draw 307 (!) cards to round out the evening 2-2.
The key to this was to wish for echoing truth and bounce all snapcasters (which then made my lands tap for 8 each) and then to use the last snapcaster to recast the echoing truth. Then I could double up on Reset. Neat.
All in all, pretty happy with the list. I will definitly fit some more GY-hate for next time. Maybe misdiretion over swan song which would be pretty hillarious on a discard because IF he respond to it with a counterspell we can maybe respond by going off, and if he don't we can look at his hand and take the counterspell.
I'll be playing at SCG Baltimore this weekend. I'm toying around with Spell Snare for reasons given a couple pages ago, and I'm now playing a single Repeal main to help with pesky permanents.
4 Brainstorm
2 Flusterstorm
4 High Tide
4 Opt
1 Repeal
2 Spell Snare
1 Brain Freeze
4 Impulse
4 Reset
2 Snap
3 Snapcaster Mage
2 Cunning Wish
3 Meditate
3 Force of Will
3 Dig Through Time
10 Island
4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
1 Blue Sun's Zenith
1 Brain Freeze
1 Dig Through Time
1 Echoing Truth
1 Flusterstorm
1 Force of Will
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Pact of Negation
1 Snap
1 Spell Snare
2 Surgical Extraction
1 Turnabout
2 Wipe Away
I run your exact list exept -1 brainfreeze -1 repeal +1meditate +1cunningwish
How do you feel about only 2 wishes? And why do you think a main deck bf is better than a singleton in the sb? Thanks in advance, I'm in love with this deck I have recently built on MTGO and I'd gladly read more opinions on the deck.
I guess the best reason I can give for having a main Brain Freeze over a third Cunning Wish is that Brain Freeze is a lot harder to counter than Cunning Wish (in case you're in a tight spot, like comboing early). Also means we don't automatically lose if Cunning Wish gets hit by Surgical Extraction (though, this is unlikely). I just feel more comfortable with it.
Today I tried your exact list on MTGO. I made some changes.
-I like the maindeck BF and 1 less wish, 2 wishes are probably enough (1 for a USZ, if I ever need it, and 1 for anything else I might need in dire situations).
-3 meditates seemed okay.
-I ran with 2 spell snares in the SB, I'd rather have 3 flusterstorms maindeck at the moment.
-I put 2 repeals in the main: they buy me time when I need them, and I can do shenanigans with SCM if I need it. Imho 3 or 4 reapeals are overkill and slow us down too much.
-I don't know how I feel about a fow in the side and 3 in the main, I still need to form a personal opinion about that.
How do these changes seem to you? I ask you because you seem to be one of the few guys that seem resonable in this thread lol :D
That's exactly how I feel with 2 Wishes. I used to play High Tide a lot, and I liked 3 there, but I wanted more because of setting up, something you don't really use Wish for in Solidarity.
Spell Snare vs Flusterstorm is a meta call, definitely.
Repeal is new for me, but a lot of people seem to like it, and I want a nice answer to a decent clock (like Delver) or problem permanents.
3 FoW main is also something I am trying. I often bring in the 4th if the match-up warrants it, but I often would rather pay 1 mana to counter a spell (Snare, FStorm) than exile a card. Again, Snare and FStorm don't hit everything, so sometimes you just want 4 FoW.
Yeah the counterspells choice is a bit of a meta call/personal preference.
Let me (us) know how many repeals you end up playing! I'm new to it as well, I have never put it in my Solidarity's 75. It seems like people in this thread STRONGLY advocate to play 3 if not 4 copies of it. Overkill imho, but I'm open to changes and suggestions :D
How does the MUD MU work for you?
Seems pretty terrible..
It looks bad.
hope they mulligan.
Hope you have pierce and no flusterstorm
Remember turnabouts tap artifacts, so trinisphere become useless.
Try to combo as quickly as you can.
Tonight I'm going to try this list out. I read the big argument over to peek or not to peek, and I am strongly in favour of hand knowledge. It's kinda annoying when the Death & Taxes player has an open Vial and is taking a long time trying to bluff the "I got you" card when you're sitting there comboing and thinking "Ugh, I KNOW you don't have it or you would have stopped my first BSZ".
Anyway, so I'm going all-in on the Dig plan with having 2 copies of Peek because I figure if I Peek, I get to know if I'm supposed to play control or combo, and it helps me know what to Dig for.
Here's hoping it doesn't fail me! <3
10 Snow-Covered Island
4 Flooded Strand
4 Scalding Tarn
4 High Tide
4 Reset
4 Dig Through Time
4 Brainstorm
4 Opt
4 Thought Scour
4 Force of Will
3 Flusterstorm
3 Cunning Wish
2 Peek
3 Meditate
3 Snapcaster Mage
Sideboard (Most of this is meta dependent)
2 Snap
1 Flusterstorm
1 Mindbreak Trap
1 Blue Sun's Zenith
1 Brain Freeze
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Pact of Negation
1 Ravenous Trap
1 Repeal
1 Surgical Extration
1 Turnabout
1 Wipe Away
1 Meditate
1 (Free space, but thinking about Impulse for matchups where I want to go fast)
If they try to bluff that they have something relevant they will use it when you try to do your first blue sun's zenith. If they do however have something & don't use it when you Blue Sun's Zenith yourself for a new hand or more, then it is likely over for them anyway. I don't know of that helps or not, but I hope it does. 8-)
What meta is the best meta for this deck? I haven't been able to do a lot of testing against different decks so I haven't figured out yet what the best meta is.
I went 2-2 at SCG Baltimore before dropping to spend the day with my fiancée. My list is a few posts back (here).
2-1 vs Merfolk
0-2 vs UR Delver
2-0 vs ScapeWish
1-2 vs OmniTell
The Merfolk match was not particularly close, aside from getting Brainstorm-locked out of a 3rd land in game 1.
UR Delver was very surprising to see, but they played an enormous amount of Burn (Lava Spike and Fireblast) and was far too fast. Thankfully this deck is not very popular.
ScapeWish was interesting, to say the least. Being non-blue, I could wait for days. Spell Snare was an all-star, as I never let Burning Wish resolve (he told me afterwards he would have grabbed Slaughter Games). I got really excited when I flashed in Snapcaster Mage to block a Veteran Explorer.
I probably should have won the OmniTell match. I should have mulliganed my opening 7 in game 3, and ended up not having enough gas to kill him.
Fun: round 4 game 2 vs OmniTell, my hand is High Tide, High Tide, High Tide, Reset, Meditate, Snap, and I have 5 Islands and Snapcaster Mage on the battlefield. In response to Show and Tell, I try to kill him. First High Tide is countered. Second High Tide is countered. Third High Tide and Reset resolves. Meditate is countered. He starts to try and put his card into play from Show and Tell, but I stop him to bounce Snapcaster Mage, replay it, and flashback Meditate. I continue to combo and win from there. He scooped in response to Brain Freeze, despite having Emrakul in his deck. Felt really, really good to beat 3 counter spells.
Repeal was surprisingly good, and I might find a place for a 2nd in the main. Probably better than the 2nd Spell Snare.
Hello Everybody,
I'm new playing with Solidarity deck and then I have some basic questions about some situations, could anyone help me ?
1st - How to play basically with the deck ? I need to wait until my opponent do the last hit and then I start comboing and steal the victory ?
for example, I have 2 points of live and then my opponent target me a lightning bolt, this time I'll start chaining my high tides, resets, cantrips and then won the game ?
2nd - How to play against decks with cards like emrakul ?
I hit him with a 20 copies of brain freeze and then in the 15th copy they find an emrakul. This time I need to take the priority and cast a cunning wish to get an surgical extraction ? after this I can exile the enrakul but the shuffle effect is already in the stack, how to proceed in this situation ?
3rd - Is possible to get more than 50 mana to throw a big blue sun zenith in the opponent like an tradition Spiral Tide w/ candles do? or the main kill condition is brain freeze ?
