Bad behavior

Sounds like he doesn't play Engineered Explosives.

Back in the day I used to play T2 at a local shop. My brother and our friends were all around 14-16 and we would often beat the adults or the 20-something dudes. There were about 3 or 4 of them that HATED losing to any of us. One guy had a crazy temper and has thrown his entire deck across the room before (not in a deck box mind you, sleeves flying everywhere) and two others would just be absolute pricks to us little kids, talking all kinds of shit and picking our cards up off the table and throwing them on the floor. It was awful playing against them and we didn't know enough to call the judge/owner over. Eventually those two were banned from the store. Despite all the trauma, it was so so satisfying any time any of us beat them.

Nowadays I play one or two events weekly and both events are full of people pleasant to play against. So it doesn't seem like it's too common, although if you asked me 8 years ago I would probably have a different opinion.

If my opponent threw their deck at me I wouldn't give them a chance to get it back.

Why the hell would anyone do that?

I could have sworn their was someone on the source that got banned for a number of years because he jumped the table and beat the shit out of his opponent. I don't know the whole story, but if someone could tell it it would be nice reading material.

Wrong. It was IBA. It wasn't his opponent, and he didn't beat the shit out of him by any means. Although he should have.

@Spatula; I don't remember the story in minute detail, but it was a case of a 16- or 17-year-old kid way outsmarting a 30-year-old adult and the adult being upset at being so roundly smited. I think my friend got the Pandemonium/two Dreadnoughts kill on turn 2 is what happened.

@rockout; if you check (again, forgive me for not posting the link, but since Wizards did a 200% overhaul on magicthegathering.com I can't find shit on that site anymore), the DCI keeps a list of people it's banned, and there are a number of people on it who've been banned for eight and ten years for assaulting judges. I've never borne witness to it, but apparently it happens. >.< I've had judges (at Regionals, let alone locally) do retarded things, but I can't imagine what goes through the mind of someone who would physically accost a judge over a game of cards.

it was more like 6-8 foot and i ducked its was one of those ION deck boxes so it would have hurt pretty badly

hey i will be the first to admit I was wrong I heard the story from a friend of a friend of a friend who was there.

I've heard stories of douchebaggery going on at tournaments, but I think this thread takes the cake.

Inciting memories of the old gamer's guild...

Matt Cole losing to Gary playing Kobold Combo (after clamp), picking up his deck and throwing it across the room.... Next week, didn't even play Gary, threw the deck anyways.

Certain unnamed individuals threatening minors with a knife because his buddies binder got stolen. Incidentally, the person being threatened didn't touch the binder or know what the fuck was going on, except the knife in his face.

I was told I was going to get my tires slashed for beating anti-red white weenie (silver knights, sofi's, cop reds, exalted angel) with lackey-less vial goblins for a box of Betrayers one day.... That was good times.

Is it possible that this guy wasn't the owner of the deck? He was new to the store, and obviously didn't feel that getting the cards back was a priority; perhaps he had borrowed the deck from a friend.

I ask only because several people have expressed the thought that keeping the cards is some sort of "punishment" for the childish temper tantrum you witnessed. You should consider the possibility that you are punishing someone else entirely.

Obviously, leaving your phone number with the shop should eventually lead to the rightful owner of the deck getting it back (if he wants it), but if the store owner is trustworthy, I would recommend simply leaving the deck there (doesn't he keep a lost-and-found?).

he didn't want to be responsible since he has employees in and out all day long and figured he could trust me more, since then he only has one person to point to. and so far it has been 4 days and no one even came looking for it.
