Side was a fairly typical mish mash.
I got it on the table exactly once this evening and proceeded to double wasteland with it (wasteland on table, and play it from graveyard). I'm a fan.
So I'm thinking about jumping back into legacy after a couple of years off and dusting off the 'ole 4c loam. How is the traditional build positioned in the meta these days? What's cards are worth giving some test runs?

How has Ramunap Excavator been working for folks so far?
I haven't managed to get in ANY reps since a bit before HOU released, but am keeping my eyes open for a JP Foil of this (so far none to be had) as it is still SUPER intriguing.

While I would love to have a stronghold sometimes, I just don't think we can really a lot for it in the manabase. Right now I think if I am going to try to fit in some extra colorless lands in, I just want to fit the Dark Depths combo in there. I feel there have been games it has just bailed me out of by being able to win on the spot.Quote:

Has anyone thought about different 2 drops? Pack rat or grim flayer could both take over a game when played on turn 1.
Dark Confidant fits that description pretty well. Grim Flayer is appealing as a green sun target, but we are a pretty medium delirium deck and its hard to justify not playing card advantage instead.
In a Loam deck is grim flayer not card advantage?
Milling 2 lands to draw a relevant card and Loam back seems strong. I just like the idea of always taking advantage of the Mox diamond hands.

James has written about the deck a couple of times. Having played the naya version a few times it feels a little better against fair decks but worse against combo decks. I didn't really think the advantages gained were worth losing the black but ymmv.Quote:

I played Grim Flayer as a 1-of for a while and thought he was pretty good in the deck. I found delirium pretty easy to achieve on account of us playing a bunch of artifacts and a handful of planeswalkers. I really liked all the little synergies he had with cards we play. This deck has an awful time with card selection and the ability helps with that (bonus points for being able to set up a good Bob flip). The problem is that Loam is such a tight list, it's hard to fit him in. He's competing with a flex slot along with stuff like a second Sylvan Library, Ramunap Excavator, Deluge, etc. It's possible you could try to play a more aggro list by replacing the Bob's with Flayers, letting you beatdown a little harder while hoping that you can make up lost card advantage with increased card selection and getting stuff back from the yard. That would play really well with Excavator as well.
Is anyone working on Naya Loam? The salt mine article is pretty interesting

I agree with the author at the salt mine that Dark Confidant does not do enough without the normal Rock discard package. When I play him in BGx he is at his best when you are drawing into disruption, which the 4c list is generally lacking. Card advantage is provided by knight/Loam/tracker and selection by library/GSZ.
Tarmogoyf is the easy replacement until something better is printed. Judgement vs Abrupt Decay is another close comparison as we have punishing fire for the majority of creatures in legacy. In all honest I don't know which is better as I wish I could play straight BG or GW without repercussions but the splash for punishing fire is so important in so many matchups.

Upping priests is something I've been interested in doing for a while, but I've been loving Leyline so I haven't felt that it was necessary.
