Assassin's Trophy is generally better, unfortunately. (Hexproof/protection is not that great, because most of the bodies can't keep up with the growth potential of something like Mayor of Avabruck or Bitterblossom.)

I was saving this deck for when Ghost Quarter was banned. I was a bit disappointed with the change in the scores after I had submitted my list, but I didn't have the energy to change it up. I am surprised it worked as well as it did.

Not seeing how apple wins vs. the Wurm hands, Ascendant is only giant above 30 life which the Wurms can get him under fast enough to make Ascendant normal again.

I dont think i win this because if I drop below 30 life Serra gets small. So I cant attack and you because you counter attack and put me below 30. So I cant attack and you cant attack into my defender.

Hmm let's do some combat math.

Asthereal vs Apple

T1 Apple - Combo. 35 life. 6/6 Ascendant.
Asth - Combo. 3 5/5 tramples.

T2 Apple - Attack for 6. (Life totals 41 / 14)
Asth - Attack for 15. (Life totals 26 / 14 ). Serra loses the buff.

After that it's a fast loss for Apple whether he attacks or chumps.

What if instead Apple chooses not to attack?

T1 Apple - Combo. 35 life. 6/6 Ascendant.
Asth - Combo. 3 5/5 tramples.

T2 Apple - Hold Serra on defense. (Life totals 35 / 20)
Asth - Attack for 15. Serra blocks one Wurm. Wurm dies. Apple takes 10 and gains 6. (Life totals 31 / 20)

T3 Apple - Hold Serra on defense. (Life totals 31 / 20)
Asth - Attack for 10. Serra blocks one Wurm. Wurm dies. Apple takes 5 and gains 6, staying above 30. (Life totals 32 / 20). Now Serra easily beats 1 Wurm and Apple wins.

Therefore Asthereal shouldn't attack either. If Apple attacks, he loses. If Asthereal attacks, he loses. They stare at each other and draw. DD 2-2.

It's pretty close. Asthereal can almost get Apple below 30 just by attackin into the bigger defender. If the attack got him below 30, Serra would shrink to 1/1 and die from the damage on it, letting any remaining Wurm tokens easily win. But Apple can just barely stay above 30 so that doesn't work. If lifelink was still a triggered ability, Serra would shrink in between and die.

Ouch, this is gonna be a bad round for me then.

You should beat Wrath OTP. Play Shoal first, then Serra comes down as a 6/6 and doesn't die to Contagion. OTD he Unmasks you though.

This is a good point.

If he attacks, I attack as well and get him below 30, which makes his ascendant somewhat smaller.
If I attack, he blocks one wurm and kills it, lifelink getting him to 41 and two wurms beating him to 31, so that doesn't help me.
No one attacks, it's two draws.

I tried to get Mountain banned last week and failed. I'm glad I was able to get Chronatog banned this week. :smile:

Chronatog is a CMC2 creature that can become 4/5 when needed. That's pretty good.
As a clock, if you can keep skipping turns, it's a 4 damage per 2 turns clock, so it resembles 2 power.

It's an interesting option. One that I had never considered.
Decks are getting more and more creative as we get deeper into the bannathon. :smile:

The clock was not the main consideration as much as the defense. First, I needed a 2 cmc thread that was blue (for countering and for casting). There are not a lot of great blue creatures for that. A lot of them amounted to a 2 power threat with some sort of evasion. I figured that being able to pump for four would let me draw some matches if someone had an x/3 x/4 threat.

I got my deck in for this next round, and I think it is pretty fun. :smile:

About two days until the deadline, and we're at 3 entries so far. Interesting ones, I must say. :smile:

I'll wait until tomorrow night before submitting my aether vial deck :)
