Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Gonna battle with a packrat version of the deck today. Been thinking of it for while so when not working its perfect time to try the deck out. Decklist and general rapport later tonight.
The board needs some change i felt faced 2 stormcombo, reanimator and rug 4 round weekly.
While my hand against reanimator was perfect setup for griselbrand i got gravetitaned instead same in game 2 fow for my swords.
Round 2 vs storm picked his hand with discard andatarted to pack rats and he is unable to comvo of . Game 2 i got for thoughtseize into stoneforge for feast and famine. Then start the rat packing with a muta vault in play he cant draw out of it with my having a nihilith spellbomb ready for his pif.
Round 3 rug.
We trade alot of 1 for 1 ande race 1 mutavault plus stoneforge vs tresholded mongoose im at 5 and draw deathrite and deside for some reason not to block and cast zealous persecution guess that what happends when not played active legacy for about a year so i di to goose damage and a bolt.
Game 2 we once again trade 1 for 1 alot but he got an ancient grudge im trying to play arround with my batterskulle i have cant draw 1 of my 8 outs to a singel goyf and it does 17 damage to me. So i die.
Stormcombo he wins diceroll plays probe into probe into adnause makes 16 goblins i dont draw zealous so i die.
Game 2 thoughtseize into stoneforge for feast and famine he draws a vapor to bounce the forge so no equip action cqn happen the he draws into adnaus down to 3 and tutorchanining for t3 kill.
So with this kind o meta my board needs to be changed thats for sure reat and peace thats on my table at home needs to be in my board some hatebear needs to be there as well. Packrat while mana intensive does have really fast clock. Faster then most things i have played in the deck before..

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I finally got to play my first actual legacy tournament.
We were 13 players and I went 2-2. I played against Painter, BUG of some kind (no shardless, didn't see delvers nor Deeds), Pox and Dark Maverick.
G1 against painter he was on the play and went T1 Grindstone, I thoughtseize and see double painter, welder, Spirit Guide, land. I didn't draw Swords and was dead soon enough. G2 I punted SO badly. I play a DRS, discard his relevant stuff and get a Confidant plus SFM going, leaving him with only Blood Moon plus top while I had basics. Then he plays a Painter, I reveal Pithing Needle and had Swords in hand. I tap incorrectly and leave myself without white open while ALSO forgetting to cast needle. He casts Grindstone and wins. The game was mine and I gave it away, didn't fell great but at least everyone got a laugh out of it.
I don't remember much against BUG except that he seemed really low on green sources and was left with a Decay in hand that he couldn't cast. Lingering Souls won G1 while we exchange discard and wastelands, he only had a Strix in play for most of the game since I manage to hit goyf plus lili out of a Hymn. G2 he goes T1 Cage which I don't think is right specially since he has a DRS in hand he could have played. I play my own DRS and then we discard each other's stuff until SFM and Batterskull beats do him in. He didn't seem to play that well but I can't really talk, having played awfully the match before.
Pox was a tough at points, wasteland + sinkhole make casting stuff hard (who would have guessed?) but I drew a ton of lands G1, drew 2 Lingering souls and killed him slowly. He actually cast Pox in this game, which I wasnt expecting. I took out Lilis, Elspeth, Hymns and Therapys for Persecutions, Disenchants (for Scrolls), E Tutor (mainly to respond to discard and get a body on top), a Needle and something else I don't quite remember, maybe rips? I didn't want Lilis and discard since we're going to be topdecking most of the time, and Elspeth seemed hard to cast, but boarding in RIP was a mistake since it hurts me more than him so I should have left Elspeth in. G2 I play Needle on Lili, then he casts a Scroll, I disenchant it, and we're on top deck mode pretty fast. I get a SFM and cheat a Batterskull into play, but he manages to kill both of them but since he used Smallpox I discarded a Souls that I couldn't playing since I was stuck on 2 lands and start hitting with the tokens, which he eventually kills too. At some point I get to 5 lands, replay the batterskull and that does him in.
Playing against Dark Maverick was very fun. G1 we traded resources until he eventually got a Library going, GSZ'd for Thrun and won from there. I boarded one Confidant out to bring a Plague in, brought a Perish and 2 Persecutions too. I didn't bring Disenchants in since I didn't saw any equipment nor SFM, and I think they usually play only one Library but during the game I wish I had. RIP could have been ok too since it messes with his Knight, but that might be wrong. G2 was pretty much the same, except I didn't drew that much removal and he got a Knight in play and then a Library vs my DRS, SFM, SoFaI, Jitte and Confidant. He then GSZ'd for Thrun again and found a SoLaS too, making things rather difficult. I had like 6 draws to find the perish but didn't, tried to equip a token with the Sword to fly over and draw a card but he had the Persecution to blow me out.
It was a fun tournament, the deck seemed decent but I feel like I could have played better in some games, I guess I'll get there. I saw people playing ANT, Hive Mind, Miracles, UR Delver, Dredge, Punishing Jund and a UBx deck playing daze and confidant (didn't see much else from that deck) but I know a good amount of those players are very long time legacy players that have multiple decks, so I don't think I want to change much yet.
This is the list I played. I was running 2 Revokers, but heard that there's usually a lot of BUG decks there so I wanted to play Spirit of the Labyrinth. Couldn't decide what to do and also wanted to have access to at least one revoker in the 75 so I played a 1/1 split. It's probably wrong and I feel revoker is the better card since it's hardly ever dead but I'm probably going to play this next week too and see how it goes. I also haven't played much with Elspeth, but I played it in the first list I tested and wanted to try it again. It's likely that should be something else too, but I'm not sure what. Maybe I'll try a Disfigure in it's place at some point. Any suggestions are more than welcomed of course.

I like the card Pack Rat, but I'm not sure if it's worth it in this deck as is. We already have at least 8 great 2 drops that usually win you the game while also being more flexible than the rat, but maybe playing 2 rats would allow you to play some more discard since you can make a rat out of it, so maybe that's a line worth exploring. Of course then you have the problem of not drawing the rat and still top deck the extra discard, but well, you can't have everything (unless you play brainstorm :P). I'm not sure I like mutas though, 8 colors less lands can be rough.

In general, I would never put a card in the deck for burn. But swapping Hymn's for Gerrard's Verdict will help.

I agree in that having a narrow sideboard card usually isn't worth it. Like say, COP: RED. My personal preference are cards that are more versatile.
So for instance...I'd probably rather have another Jitte. Or running Thalias in the board are nice too I find, they usually kill her on site, one less bolt to my face is nice.
Hymn is still really good vs Burn. Lately, I've been facing burn in my meta and Hymn and Liliana are huge in that matchup. Again, I've had situations where they waste burn killing her. Fine by me.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Agreed that those are the two best cards versus burn. Unfortunately you still just lose to piles of burn. At an SCG I'd never board anything for it, but locally there is usually at least a couple burn decks.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I faced burn yesterday. Turn 2 Hero of Bladehold. He was so shocked at seeing that card he didn't realize he could just block it with Goblin Guide and then bolt it.
So.....turn 3 swing for 7. Cast Lingering Souls. Turn 4 swing for 13 and a deathrite activation. gg.
Hero was so awesome in killing Aggro loam too. He had one Punishing Fire and an Abrupt Decay in hand. But yeah burn is an issue but I don't feel you can really do much about it...unless say you have an Enlightened tutor board, so you can put a card in.
Trying out a singleton Council's Judgment. It's alright. Haven't yet killed something that Vindicate couldn't. But it's nice to have another out to Emrakul, True Name etc. And I like that it can't be misdirected back at me. Still playing 2 Vindicate...cause I still love my Stone Rain. :)
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Tbh my favorite card against burn is Timely Reinforcements. Gives life and gives tokens to block their eidolon / guide. With no true-name and minimal amount of Delver decks in the meta im not a fan of lingering souls nor maindecked zealous Persecutions.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Burn is usually not popular enough for special hate in sb…
Burn would side in searing blaze/blood, and smash to smitherens. So we must cast sfm-equipment very carefully. Thalia and discards are the most helpful cards after sideboard.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I just think with Eidilon the Great Revel or whatever that the burn decks will start trickling up the standings more often. Whatever. I have never played a deck that can beat burn.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
It did just place 3rd in an SCG Open in the hands of a 13-yr-old. I'd say burn will be a more common match-up in the coming months.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I guess I'm back to Thalia in the SB here then. Maybe even add a COP: Red. I hate relying on equipment because a lot of burn players play 4x Smash to Smithereens.

What would you play in place of lingering souls in that situation?

I may try out chrome mox. It sounds sweet, and gettinga turn 1 hate bear is pretty awesome vs combo

Sadly i was sick yesterday so couldnt try out a new version. Against the black combo decks its important to avoid fetching up the plain. I want more maindeck singel target discard. Its the best way to interact with them before landing a bear.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I think when my buddy gets back from China I'm gonna give his alpha sink holes some love with an old school dead guy build. Doubt it's good enough, but dammit, I need to stone rain some fools
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Played tonight for a 3-0-1 (ID) finish.
Beat UR Delver, Soldier Stompy, then Miracles. I think it is the first time I didn't drop a single game. Stabilized vs delver in G1 and Revoker named Lavamancer of which he had 2 and I got a Sorin Token suited up with SoFaI to get back to a high enough life total to not die to a bolt and took over. G2 I hymned him T2 hitting 2 lands after he dazed my T1 Deathrite, then vindicated his land and he didnt find any for a few turns. Soldier Stompy he did hard cast captain of the watch, but she pales in comparison to the mighty Batterskull. Miracles I got Sorin online and he fucking dominated the games.
He goes T1 Top, I land go, T2 Counterbalance, I get a revoker naming top out. He STPs revoker. I Vindicate Counterbalance. He plays another, I get sorin while he has no 4 on top and Sorin takes it over a long game. G2 was similar with Sorin resolving after I vindicate his Counterbalance (but no top) and even though he is able to find an answer to my dudes every turn while he is at 2 for like 6 turns, eventually Sorin gets there. I did play a Smokestack just for fun because I'm a dick, but I never drew it :/
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I haven't gotten to play a ton recently, and the last two Legacy events I played in, I actually played on the darkside with Delver decks (doing about just as well averaging a top 32). But I am pretty excited about a few Deadguy lists I've been brewing in my little bit of free time. I am going to try to put them together (don't have all the cards) these next couple weeks and play them in local events and in between rounds. If I get anything sweet, I'll post it for y'all. The first one is likely a Leonin Arbiter build. Not sure how much I wanna push it becuase it lowers black sources for Liliana, but I have a lot of experience with the card from Modern.
Also, I was wondering how many Tidehollow's y'all were playing. I sent my list to somebody a few weeks ago, and they added Tidehollows and said they won a ton more. Then I played in a Modern event and found it to be such a good G1 card, but miserable G2.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I don't play any Scullers. I think the effect is stronger in Modern due to less good card manipulation where a Thoughtseize into Sculler is like impossible to come back from. I still think it's a fine card, and really strong in a combo heavy meta game. Also I have some extra of the smaller stuff if you need to borrow anything lemme know.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I've tried Sculler and it just doesn't work like you want it to often enough. It's really good against combo, but there isn't enough combo in the meta right now to make it maindeckable and there are just better sideboard options. It's miserable against most fair decks since it's outclassed by every other creature in the format in combat. On top of that, more fair decks means more removal, so it can't even really protect itself. And of course Miracles can topdeck Terminus and get its goodies back at the same time that it wipes your board.
It was great in the Zombie deck because it was very common to go Thoughtseize, Sculler, Therapy-Gravecrawler-Therapy-Gravecrawler, or sac it to Feeder/Bombardment to make it a Castigate, but DRS and Abrupt Decay put the kibosh on that deck.
I sided it in Modern because it was good against Tron but it's again outclassed by all the removal and creatures in the format. I guess it works in BW tokens because of Honor of the Pure, but I've never played that deck.
Would've been nice if Wizards had pushed the effect a little more when they made Brain Maggot (ETB straight-up Duress or some sort of evasion would've been nice) but that card is even worse in every way so I doubt we're ever getting good hand disruption on a stick at 2 CMC.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Went 4-0 tonight. Beat up on Elves, High Tide, Jund Zombie Vine, and Omni-Tell. Not much to say outside of spirit of the labyrinth being pretty sick as a singleton in the main (which gives me the ability to ETutor it in G2 without dedicating a SB slot). Also got to put a Shrikmaw in against Show and Tell and eat an Emrakul. My life is complete.
