Is the mana denial plan with stifle still relevant. A lot of lists I am seeing are not running it?
As a former RUG player I thought id miss it, but after 50+ games with UWR I havent. I prefer consitency over free wins every now and then.Quote:

Has anyone tried dropping 1 spell pierce from Owen's list and adding a 3rd TNN in the maindeck?
That would open a sideboard slot, and I believe a sword of fire and ice is a perfect fit.
Thoughts?
Ive been testing with a geist instead of a third TNN just to have some game against -1 effects.
Havent tried the sword of fire and ice, why do you think its a great fit?

So after playing with this deck at the NK (going 5-2 pickked up the second loss in the last round which made me 10th place), I still think the deck is really good but I think TNN is horrible in this deck right now, every deck that cares about it plays answers to it and half the decks don't even care about him. It also costs 3 mana which is a lot for this deck, I think I would shift them for Grim lavamancers which have been great for me. I could also see running a meddling mage or SoFaI main, but I at least think it's very wrong to play a 3th TNN main, it should probably be 1 or 0.
I agree, I thibk right now its wrong to play the third TNN. The geist in my sb has been doing good work against decks that rely on zealous persecution or golgari charm.
I been thinking of something to replace the SoFaF in the sb. So far ive tried the third grim lavamancer, vendilion clique, SoFaI and another wear/tear.
I find the swords to be too slow in the combo matchup. Any suggestions?

Just finished playing a MODO Legacy Daily. I went 4-0 with the deck and it felt very solid.
Round 1 - TES, Gotsjo
Game 1 - I kept SFM, Brainstorn, Wastelandx2, Brainstorm. On a mull to 6 I thought it was a good keep. It wasnt. I died turn 2 when I couldnt find a way to stop him from going off. With help from his Gitaxian Probe he saw that I didnt have an answer.
-2 TNN -1 Stoneforge Mystic -3 StP -1 Jitte +4 Meddling Mage +2 Pyroblast +1 REB
Game 2 - I kept Meddling Mage, FoW, Ponder, Wasteland, Fetchesx3. Loose keep but I think I can get there. Meddling Mage naming Burning Wish seems to be the correct play. Batterskull helps with an early ETW so most TES players shy away from that line of play. Drew a second Mage but he had an abrupt decay for both of them. He never drew enought rituals to combo off and a Delver finished him off.
Game 3 - Fetch, SFM, Brainstormx2, Daze, Gitaxian Probe, Spell Pierce. I found a delver and Meddling Mage, enough to get him to single-digits before he was able to Ad Nauseam, he died to his own spell.

Round 2 - UWR Delver, Sethdrone
Game 1 - Kept Tundrax2, Wasteland, FoW, SFM, Delver, Brainstorm. Against an unknown opp I felt it was decent enough to keep. Wastelanded him off white mana and was able to take control of the game with a Jitte and a TNN. On my first SFM I decided to go for the jitte since its been working out well for me in the mirror.

Game 2 - I dont remember what I kept but my opp went for the mana denial strat. It would have worked out well for him except I had 3 Fetch still in my hand. I drew a couple of Delvers and that was it. Since I started playing this deck I have a 88% win rate in the mirror. Its a small sample size, 8 games, but like I said in one my earlier posts I take pride in being able to win mirrors. Playing lots of mirror matches is one of the primary reasons I decide to play certain decks.

Round 3 - BUG Delver, Kozel
Game 1 - I wastelanded his first landed he never drew a second one. The only interesting play of the game was when he attempted to wasteland my lone white source. I casted a bolt and in response dazed my tundra and paid the 1 mana with the untapped tundra.
-4 FoW -4 Daze +2 Grim Lavamancer +2 RiP +2 Pyroblast +1 REB +1 StP
Game 2 - A resolved TNN was too much for him to handle. Took 5 hits from the merfolk and died.

Round 4, BUG Control, Averyc4
Game 1 & 2 - Both games 1 and 2 I played Delver t1 and protected him as much as I could. He drew an abrupt decay but it was too late his life was low and I was able to resolve a Geist of Saint-traft. In game 1 I saw a couple of sac-type spells so I waited to cast the geist untill I had a SFM and Delver on the board.

I liked how the deck performed overall. I only lost 1 game against TES. I used all my sb cards except Grafdiggers Cage. I dont think I need to change any cards at all right now.

So I think you just subtract all of the +1 STP from your sideboard notes and you're pretty much good to go, because the 4th Swords to Plowshares should definitely be in your Main Deck. Since you didn't post a list with your sideboard notes, what does your Main Deck look like?

Ill try one out for a few games. Thing is, I'm already beating aggro and midrange decks without the wizard and bolt feels better overall. Nevertheless, I will try it out and see if it leads to more game 1 wins.
What matchups would you consider Grim to be better than bolt? And what replaced the Grims in your sb?
