The fact that you have to play it MD is terrible. You might as well as run stifle in this spot if you're so concerned with batterskull.
Swords/path/1cc burn is definitely not the only removal floating around with MMS everywhere in the format. Merfolk has had a tendency of losing to spot removal, and Kira definitely patches up this weakness a lot.Quote:

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how many Dismember you should run? I honestly love this card since it helps a ton in a lot of our more difficult matchups. I have been running 2 and I am no doubt going up to 3, but I have been considering even going up to 4. The lifeloss might begin to stack up, but in most matchups where I side them in I would love to draw 2 so I am thinking if 4 isn't the correct number then? What do you guys think?
I think that in your 75, you should pack four Dismember. If your metagame is so Zoo heavy that Submerge starts becoming a better option, I'd just play a different deck.Quote:

I am thinking of playing this deck in scg Baltimore and wanted to get more opinions on the build/sb
I think the main deck looks really good. It is nearly card for card what I am running. I have been messing around with the 2 Dismember slots with a few other options at the moment. I like the way that Dismember has preformed for me though.Quote:

21's felt good to me. I used to advocate 22, but Mental Misstep and Dismember significantly lowered the overall curve of the deck, and I find with more free/undercosted spells I can focus excess mana on leveling Coralhelm, bashing with Mutavaults, and firing off Wastelands. You still need to hit two islands most games, though, and you always want at least one Island in your opening hand, so I wouldn't go to 20. And if I did, I'd probably cut a Mutavault before Island #13.
I wouldn't cut your Dismembers in sideboard for Energy Flux. If you need Energy Flux, cut something else for it. You could easily cut one of your Submerges for an Energy Flux, if not two of them. If you want the Submerges that bad, cut a Llawan, as it's the most narrow card in Merfolk's sideboard.
I think Sovereign's the card you take when you have no specific metagame expectations that warrant you play Kira. Kira's only a beast when you expect a ton of targeted removal, and outside of Zoo (12-16+) and Deadguy Ale (8) I can't really think of decks that play more than four, maybe six. And six, to me, is about the mark where Sovereign and Kira break even. Anything less than that, I want Sovereign. Zoo? Give me Kira.
On top of that, every time I've ever tried removing the maindeck Sovereigns for anything, I find the deck plays worse for me. I have a certain mental expectation of my topdecks when I calculate my plans in Merfolk, and not having the Sovereigns screws with that, because I don't get my Lords when I need them. I like having ten guys that pump my army the second they hit. I think it makes all the difference versus 8.
If Zoo somehow emerges as a tier 1 deck again, then yeah, you should probably play Kira. I personally have no plans to ever cut the Sovereigns for anything until something drastic happens to shake things up. And right now, if my metagame or the overall legacy metagame warrants playing Kira beyond all question, I'll probably just go pick up Landstill, Maverick, or Deadguy, all of which are sitting in my box itching to go.
Hey Taco, how do you board against Goblins? I guessed the third (or fourth Dismember) and the 2 Jittes. Am I correct?
Just came home from a local Legacy event, and I played Taco's list (2 Sovereigns, 2 Dismember), though with a different sideboard, since I was only able to lay my hands on two Dismember. I also expected zero graveyard decks, since there's really only one Dredge player around here, and he was not slated to be in the tournament. Naturally, I ran into Lands in round one. Instead of Crypts I had three Submerge, since I expected lots of Bant, Junk and other stuff like that, which are both quite popular archetypes around here. My brother eventually won the whole thing with GW Maverick, and there was two other part-green decks in the T8.
All in all;
R1: Lands!, 1-2. I won game one and then he stabilized on one life in G2 and two life in G3.
R2: Goblins, 2-0. Played against a friend, he had to mull to five in G1, I MM'd his Lackey and then Wastelanded is Taiga and that's all she wrote. In G2, I drew a bunch of hate, Jitte and REB and rolled over his bad draws.
R3: Hive Mind, 2-1. Our games were basically just counter-wars, I won G1 after I drew three FoW + food, and I won G3 after he misplayed and declined to MM my Cursecatcher despite him not having enough mana to pay for my two Cursecathers when casting Show and Tell. G2 he SnT'd an Emrakul.
R4: Gb Pox, 2-1. My deck capitalizes on his slow draws with all of its redundancy. He got one game after I couldn't recover from his second Pernicious Deed. Protip: Submerging an animated Mishra's Factory is an awesome tempo play. :)
R5: ?, ID for T8.
In the quarters I lost to the same Hive Mind deck I played in R3, game one was just one of those games when I had to mull to five before seeing even one land, let alone an Island. I managed to see three Dismembers, however... Game two I got a strong start and established a fast clock with multiple lords, but he also drew a quick hand and combo'd me out with Hive Mind. He showed three blue pacts after I scooped up my cards, so resolving that Show and Tell was obviously not a problem.
All in all, however, 3-1-1 in the swiss, beating Goblins and actually finishing in the T8 (out of 20 people) was an okay result since I hadn't even touched my cards since like March, and this was my first event with the NPH cards. Mental Misstep was awesome all day, but Dismember never performed. Granted, the only creatures I actually faced were Bloodghasts and Goblins, though I did Dismember a Piledriver who could've been a hassle otherwise, and a couple of manlands. Good times, and the list feels stable and strong overall.
I would say three now if you put four in der dats just just too many slots spent on maindeck anddor sideboard rite der

Honestly? I haven't even tested against it since I made the list. I think I would board in my two extra Dismembers and my two Jittes, and I'd probably cut Force on the play and Daze on the draw. I don't think my random pair of Pithing Needle would warrant inclusion over anything else here. It's nice to hit Port, Gempalm, Siege-Gang, or even Vial in rare situations, but I don't know what would be worth cutting. The general strategy is to just curve out a little faster, abuse Mental Misstep and Dismember, and don't let them stabilize for the long haul.Quote:

Very true, but it was a metagame call, usually there are no decks I'd side in Crypts against in our small local tournaments. I'm working on procuring a couple of Extractions, though and I'll probably bring them next time around. When going to a larger event, I'd never dream of leaving home without a few slots dedicated to graveyard hate.Quote:

Its mana cost is steep enough that I would never run more than one copy in this deck though, and honestly I don't always use mine, it's kind of a floater that comes in for a Jitte when I'm feeling frisky.

Granted, my experience against Goblins is only a handful of games with the new list, and I actually lost half the games, but the match-up seems a lot more even now with Misstep and Dismember. At the tourney I boarded in 3 BEB/Hydroblast and 2 Jittes in place of 3 Daze and 2 Sovereigns, and with so many answers to a T1 Lackey post-sideboard, the number of keepable hands is raised significantly. Of course, if they get a god hand they will still probably steam roll you, but Shackles is slow as hell, and I doubt it'll be helpful to cut Mutavault (who is the only one who can block Piledrivers in the deck) to add it.Quote:

I would be very grateful for any feedback (good or bad) and if someone plays Uw-Merfolk I'd would very much like to know what the sideboard looks like?
I used to play Uw Merfolk about a year ago, but now, with good removal in blue (Dismember), the only reason to play it is Sejiri Merfolk. Sejiri, while being amazing if you have a lord and if your opponent has no removals and your opponent is Zoo (unlikely), is medicore at best against most other decks, and Coralhelm is overall a better choice. I'd never cut Coralhelm to add Sejiri.
Further in your list, I'd cut three Islands for another Mutavault and a couple of more fetch. 4 Tundras seem like a lot too.
In my board, the only white stuff was 4 PtE for most of the time.
did you see the new lists that made top 16 scg denver...cutting one cursecathcer for a dismember
