Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Played about 4 unboarded games against Portent Miracles today, won the first one on Illusions-Puca (the whole table went like, WTF?), and despite having Root maze turn 1 three times, and turn 2 the last time, he always had + drew Basics the first turns, while I was mana screwed so this is definitely a bad matchup for Root Maze as a card. Need to play against some other decks next week

Except Miracles a good matchup before, it should be even better now. Why are you playing rootmaze? You hardly need to interact with them.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
...because I wanted to test out a deck with Root Maze and Back to Basics because that seems fun? (And EGrass/Tabernacle)
It's not like you can swich decks/builds because you suddenly get to play against a matchup where your new tech doesn't do anything.
Like I wrote they were just some preboard games, so I didn't get to board out the Root Mazes for something more optimal like City of Solitude

I'm not too sure about this, but I'm still learning how the new miracles works.
Before, they didn't have mainboard enchantment removal. Now some have 4 Unexpectedly Absent which can hit our enchantments if Sterling Grove isn't up. We're a slow deck, so their ability to Absent and Predict away key pieces is pretty bad.
Post board, they get Councils Judgement, Disenchant, Ethersworn Canonist, and Surgical Extraction.
What made it good before was they couldn't clear our board, so we could cast into Counterbalance, and our hand would still restock itself. Now they can clear our board, and our hand doesn't restock itself.
Yesterday, I had someone Unexpectedly Absent my Enchantress's Presence, Predict it away, then Surgical them. It was a tough match...

I never felt miracles was particularly bad because it was a relatively slow deck. You can set up your "bubble" relatively easily and if you apply enough pressure with Doomwakes, Angels, RIP (threat) it is ok.
Also, even when counter/top was alive, you could still essentially "cycle" cards by casting cheap enchantments.
Council Judgement: Not much to do since no counter spells.
Surgical Extraction: Well, with RIP in play, becomes less useful for them. I play RIP/Helm combo
Disenchant (or wear/tear): Hopefully, Sterling Grove is down, but you should have enough redundant protection down before they set up their "attack".
Ethersworn Canonist: Sideboard in my Seal of Primordium. After all, although he is white, he is also an artifact.
All Unexpectedly Absent does is adjust tempo. We can untempo with Mirri's guile
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Just read this spoiler in another thread:
Sunbird's Invocation 3R Enchantment
Whenever you cast a spell from your hand, reveal the top X cards of your library, where X is that spell's CMC. You may cast a card revealed this way with CMC X or less without paying its mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Seems very nuts in Enchantress! On the one hand maybe Ench doesn't need another card advantage card? On the other hand it does get through Leovold, and also just makes sure you'll almost never brick due to only drawing lands off your Argothian. With this in play I think you just keep going and going forever...
Maybe 4 mana means it'll come down too slow before it actually does anything, but I'll definitely try it out in a red version...
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
For those playing a black splash, has anyone tried Darkest Hour? Nice combo with elephant grass, locks out the attack step completely, should be useful against emrakul and the like, in addition to just hosing any type of agro.

I have not. I find that Elephant Grass usually stalls long enough to get out Sphere of Safety or Solitary Confinement.
The card doesn't seem to stand on its own, and the cumulative upkeep of Elephant Grass can be a downside in some cases. We run 3 to 4 Elephant Grass, but how many of these would we want to run, and is it side board or main? Humility can't be hit by Abupt Decay or Rec Sage, it can also be put in on Show n Tell and neuter an Emrakul.
I'd recommend trying it out still and sharing the results.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Can you guys do anything with Solemnity? Add Crop Rotates to find Depths/Chasm/Sanctum.

Hopefully!
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Also with Phyrexian Unlife and Solemnity the only option to kill you is to deck you or use "you win the game" effect. I kinda see this card to be broken in a future :)

Solemnity - 2W
Enchantment
Players can't get counters.
Counters can't be put on artifacts, creatures, enchantments, or lands.
How does that work with "Cumulative Upkeep"?
702.21a. Cumulative upkeep is a triggered ability that imposes an increasing cost on a permanent. "Cumulative upkeep [cost]" means "At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent. Then you may pay [cost] for each age counter on it. If you don't, sacrifice it." If [cost] has choices associated with it, each choice is made separately for each age counter, then either the entire set of costs is paid, or none of them is paid. Partial payments aren't allowed.
Does it work the way I hope!?
I'm going to try it sideboard to see if it helps in the Infect match-up. I'm not sure if it's mainboard because against Lands, they basically drop in a Merit Lage, but at the same time, if we can play this and a Elephant Grass the same turn, Merit Lage just sits there. Seems like this would open the flood gates to more lock pieces.
Throw in a Tornado for some extra fun.

It works exactly the way you hope. Sphinx's Tutelage seems real good with Mystic Remora. If you can get a way to drop a Solemnity in play, well, baby you've got a stew goin'. Already playing Elephant Grass, which, with Solemnity out, is closer to Elephant Gas. Sideboard Island Sanctuary if necessary/desperate. Ancestral Knowledge for that tutorage.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
The new card that allows us to go back to 20 health may be worth including as a 1-off main deck, without changing much of the main deck build. With 1-off of that new card, we could perhaps increase the count of our Sylvan Library in the deck.
As for the new enchantment, I think it'll work better of with some Bant version of opal-wave deck.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Damn guys, Solemnity made me unzip my pants. Definitely brewing with this one.

Exciting card.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Going back a little bit on this thread, yes, I tried out darkest hour, but it really didn't work great. One of the issues is it is part of a 2 part combo which
1) Doesn't win you the game.
2) Isn't permanent
3) One of the colors is in your splash color.
so I got rid of it.
As a comparison, I still use Carpet of Flowers main board. The fact that it is easy to cast (we will have green on board), even if it doesn't hit, will be equivalent to a card which says (G): Cycle 99% of the time.
I am curious about solemnity vs. infect (tough matchup) and oketra's last mercy since we actually have the advantage of using a single land to pay for the cost, usually we don't have mana issues, but we will have to see.
I have definitely liked Amonkhet and Hours of Devastation looks interesting. I did not like the previous two sets before that.
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Curious question here from a non-Enchantress player: has anyone tried using Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth alongside Spreading Algae? I know the Blight-like effect is a little underpowered, but it is re-usable and returns to hand, creating a potential land-lock plus draw with enchantress effects. I know black is an off color (typically g/w is the version I've seen) so Urborg is kind of outside enchantress's wheelhouse.
Is the combo too janky for legacy?

Answer here from a non-enchantress player; the opponent still has the option of just not ever tapping the land or Wastelanding your Urborg. It's not a very powerful combo for 2 cards (considering you can have things like RiP-Field or the new No-Counters thing + Phyrexian Unlife or No Counters Thing + Crop Rotation, admittedly Urborg being a land somewhat mitigates this but there aren't many black spells in Enchantress).
The other thing is that from a strategic perspective enchantress focuses on 'You have the mana for your spells, but they won't do anything' with cards like Solitary Confinement, Sterling Grove, Elephant Grass etc. Putting Stone Rain in that plan is like putting Lava Spike in a pox deck, the result is 2 different plans executed poorly rather than 1 cohesive strategy.
Just my 2c
Re: [Deck] Solitaire (Enchantress)
Makes perfect sense, just sheer curiosity. Solemnity has me digging through old cards to see potential combinations (as I'm sure many others are doing) and I came across it in passing.
Will Enchantress players be working in Solemnity? It seems like the most natural deck to play it, considering Crop Rotation/Solemnity are on-color for Dark Depths shenanigans.
