How would you choose between the numbers you gave for each card? Is it all just a meta choice or self preference?
To be fair, yes. Adapt it to your playstyle and likes/dislikes regarding cards and be sure to do some scouting on the morning of the tourney to make final adjustments!Quote:

He plays Birds, I chain it. I play Goyf, he StPs it. He plays Cabal Therapy on Bolt, but didn't find one. Next turn he duresses me and in resp I Magma Jet and Fireblast him. Next turn my Mancer kills him. WON
Turn 1 Duress: discards Rancor, plays Kitchen Finks, I double burn them with Mancer and Bolt and my 2 Goyfs, 4/4 FoD and Mancer beat him. WON

2) Merfolk
I've got an awesome starting hand. He Dazes a Goyf, Wastes a land, Forces a FoD, Dazes a Bob and Forces a Countryside Crusher and I still beat his ass, cause of my unlimited threats and never-seen-before topdecks!! I just had to take care of his Wake Thrasher, because he was flooded and EOT tapped all his lands and attacked for 7... but I didn't really care ^^ WON Oh, and btw, FoD is amazing!!
Turn 1 he plays needle on FoD. Glad I didn't have on in hand and didn't ever draw one in that game. I choked him and easily WON.

3) Ad Nauseam Combo
Before the Tournament I lent this guy 2 Angel's Grace, he needed for his deck. I just thought: sure, but who the f... plays such a fucking noob shitty crap card??
I mulli for the first time. He fetches a lot, brainstorm a lot, ponders a lot and played an orim's chant with kicker once. Ok, didn't bother me - I stomped him and Bolted him and it was over. WON
I boarded Choke...
2nd Game I kept a 1 land hand for the first time and topdecked a fetchland xD. He duresses turn 1; can't remember what. I got him at 3 life and he plays Ad Nauseam and in resp Angel's Grace... => Tendrils for a LOT in my face. LOST
I learned that his deck is actually Black Combo with U and W splash instead of Blue Control with B and W splash... => -choke, +pillar
Game 3, turn 2: Pillar. WON
3-0-0 / 6:1
4) Wierd deck with no name. He placed 6th, so you can look at his list.
He Forces my Goyf. Later in the game I've got 9 life, he 13. I've got Mancer and Bob, he's got jitte and lands and 2 mishra's. I decide to play FoD instead of keeping mana open for Magma Jet and next turn he equips his mishra and attacks. I block with a 2/2 FoD; both die. then he destroys my mancer and bob with jitte... shit. stupid mistake. LOST
He forces Bob. He plays Chill. I play Goyf. WON
3rd Game: I mulli (2nd mulli this tournament) He dazes my Goyf and Forces my Bob, but is stuck on 1 land which isn't really great for a blue deck => WON

5) Ugw Dreadstill
At this point I'm first in standings and Simon and Kim are second and third and played 1:1 against each other in round 4. So they're both at 3-0-1
I mulli, i start. Kept a hand with 2 rancor, 1 mancer and 3 lands :(. turn 2 confi is spell snared. Allthough he wastes my badlands and taiga, I still manage to equip 2 rancor on mancer and attack each turn only with my mancer. kinda stupid. He's only got a SDTop and I think is flooded. I topdeck Mogg next turn and WON
He lays an early Goyf and I got a Mancer. His Goyf is 3/4. I got Krosan Grip, land, Magma Jet and Chain in hand. I play a land; got 3 lands now and play a Chain Lightning on him, allthough it pumps his Goyf to 4/5. (2 lands left) No problem, cause I can remove the Chain with mancer, making goyf 3/4 again and send a Jet in for 2 more dmg doing 4 dmg, I'm thinking. didn't work out. in his turn I play the Jet on his goyf and just realize I don't have enough mana for the fucking mancer cause I fucking played Chain a turn earlier and screwed up. I wanted to undo my jet, but he and the judge didn't let me.. well that's that. had to take the dmg from goyf. Then he played a Nought and stifle it. Dammit. Next turn I played land, removed the Nought with Grip, his goyf now 5/6 (creature, land, instant, sorcery, artifact), mancer his goyf and send a fireblast on top. somehow he gets a standstill in his yard, another nought on the table and I still just got my weak mancer and a 5/6 goyf (why did I remove the sorcery...?) on the table. I'm at 8 and he's at 12 life. LOST
In the third game I make a mistake and sac untapped lands for a fireblast and he dazes it... wtf?! ...too late... countered. I'm at 6, he's at 9. He's got goyf and mishra and I got mancer and grip. He attacks with the goyf only. I chump block it. Then he plays nought... In his next turn he attacks with all his creatures even mishra. (I hoped he would forget attacking with the mishra but he didn't) LOST
4-1-0 / 9:4
Now Simon was 4-0-1... Kim won, too... *Well, at least 3rd* Nope. not today. Sadly I had the same points as some other guy and he ended up being 3rd... 4th place. I got Wooded Foothills. wtf, I allready got 4... shit happens.
Conclusion
I didn't like the Rancor. Not good in the starting hand. I missed Price of Progress a little. maybe next time as a 3 of in the board, don't know.
The C.Crusher was only a win-more and never became more than 4/4.
Figure of Destiny is AWESOME!!!1 No less than 4. never.
Next time I'll probably play shushers in the board instead of choke and price of progress instead of pyroclasm, allthough I don't know if it's ok in a 3 color deck. I want to play Seal of Fire or Rift Bolt instead of Rancor, but rather tje Seal and I'll probably cut the Crushers and add 2 Marauders, allthough I'm really NOT so sure about that.

I can't seem to decide on which artifact removal and critter hoser card to put in to the SB.

Just to make your life easier, there's also Ancient Grudge to consider. All I can say is that TSH is probably not the pick, but any of the other three seem like good choices. Smash can be boarded in profitably in more matchups, while Spree and Grudge are going to hit your opponent harder in the fewer matchups you board them in for.
I'd go with Pyroclasm as the sweeper, for a number of reasons. More of your creatures survive it than do the other two, two mana is a lot easier to get to than three (doubly so against Goblins, which is going to be the primary target), and especially in an aggressive deck like this, every mana counts.

There's a guy that plays the eternal life combo deck in my meta, is there a SB card that can fit in this deck for that?

In all seriousness, you're pretty screwed against Life (I assume you mean Clerics/Worthy Cause type combo). You could at least consider Sulfuric Vortex, but that is hardly a solid solution.

Okay, I tend to bring like 2 or 3 different decks to tournaments anyways so if that guy shows up I'll just play a different deck for that day... thanks for the help.

Hi! I haven't found this in the previous pages... what do you think about Thorn of Amethyst against Storm Combo? I used to run Pyrostatic Pillar in the SB for this matchup, but somebody has told me ToA would be more effective... and testing doesn't give me the solution. The truth is that the Pillar is only useful in this pairing, and I suppose Thorn can be used against other pairings.
Ad Nauseam Tendrills is multiplying in spanish top8s and I want to be ready.
Probably neither Thorn of Amethyst nor Pillar alone will be able to give this deck a positive matchup against ANT. Even if you're packing both of them and wasting a lot of sideboardslots you will still have difficulties in beating them because those cards simply don't come down until turn 2 which is often too late. Goyfsligh is simply not good againt combo.
However I think that Pillar is the card to play as it is good against Ad Nauseam simply because it reduces their life total so they can't pay so much life for it. Furthermore it synergizes with the decks gameplan which is to bring your opponent to very low life as fast as possible and finish him of with burn.
As most combo decks are now running Ad Nauseam I think that this Matchup might even have improved for Goyfsligh as we simply can get lucky when they play Ad Nauseam and kill them with a pair of bolts or a fireblast.
Thorn makes your burn cost more. That's REAL bad for you. Just about all combo will be able to handle a troublesome permanent (Chain of Vapor, E-Truth, etc), so why not make it painful to do so? If you have your heart set on trying to improve your REALLY bad matches, then Pillar is a much better choice than Thorn. Thorn, even though it slows combo down, slows you down also.
So when looking at the lists of Goyf Sligh there is one major fact I am not sure about. In many lists Kird Ape is a 4-of, but on the other hand there are also a lot of lists that don't include Kird Ape at all.
(He is not even on Peter Rotten's list of cards that should be in Goyfsligh)
What's the reasoning for including or not including him and should he therefore be played or not?
Most combo decks play blue, so a couple Red Elemental Blasts out of the board can also try to slow them down. Not sure it's a great idea to cut stuff that can actually turn your slighty unfavorable pre-board matches into positive matches on the whole, but whatever.

Ok, Ok. Here's why he sucks IMO:
- For Ape to be effective, you must play an early Taiga which I generally hate doing with this deck. I only play my green producing lands if I have to cast good spells - Tarmo, Library, Grip. Needing to play that early Taiga can open you up to Wasteland, Stifle on a Fetch that you may have been able to save for Library shuffling, and more dmg from your own PoP. Granted, this not a concern against some decks.
- Ape is terribly outclassed by today's cheap critters - Goyf, Nuaght, Tombstalker, Factory, and Goose all laugh at the Ape.
- An ass of 3 really sucks - see above, but also he is vulnerable to almost all commonly played removal sans Magma Jet and Fanatic.
- He doesn't do much other than swing. Look at the other critters commonly played in the deck: Yes Goyf can only swing, but he gets huge. Same for FoD. Fanatic pings and Lavamang Shocks. KM also provides a Shock and a chumper.
- He is a bad top-deck. See above. Say it's turn 6 (maybe you have 3 or 4 lands in play) and you have nothing in hand and need to squeeze in 1 dmg. Take these commonly played GoyfSligh critters and order them in the preference of which you would like to draw them in that situation: Goyf, KM, Dark Confidant, Fanatic, Lavamang, FoD, Kird Ape. Order them again for 2 dmg and then 3 dmg. Hell, if you got time do it for 4 and 5 dmg too. I bet Ape comes out on the bottom of that list each time. Why? Because all he'll ever do is put a little guy on the table.
- He sucks. End of story.
