I'll admit Brutality is real good though. Gain life plus take a bolt against burn is actually pretty sick now I think about it. It's also a solid targeted discard spell for combo matches and removal against others. I'd trade an in hand lingering souls to gain two and take a PoP or basically any other card. I do think Blessed a alliance is a card to consider, but the more I think about brutality the more I like it. You can theoretically kill a goblin guide, gain 2 life, AND take one of their burn spells on turn 2. Fucking sick

Yes, I have done it in modern already and it was sick. I don't know if i going take out Kor Firewalker for that. Firewalker is only good aginst burn (or decks with P.Fire) but is REALLY good aginst burn.
I think brutality is good aginst burn and infect. Could be delver as well but I don't want to get 1 for 2 if Delver has a Daze.
Blessed can be good in burn but also aginst Lands 20/20, Sneak attack and Infect.
I think I should remove Manriki for a Brutailty, Stoneforge match is still okey match for me.
My sideborad now:
SB: 1 Nihil Spellbomb
SB: 1 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 1 Ethersworn Canonist
SB: 1 Manriki-Gusari
SB: 2 Zealous Persecution
SB: 1 Maelstrom Pulse
SB: 1 Hymn to Tourach
SB: 1 Pithing Needle
SB: 1 Containment Priest
SB: 1 Surgical Extraction
SB: 1 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 1 Choke
SB: 1 Kor Firewalker
SB: 1 Gaddock Teeg
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Hi.
It seems that, overall, most of you think that Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is better than Kaya, Ghost Assassin at 4 cmc. Speaking of 4 cmc creatures, i've tested Phyrexian Obliterator, Hero of Bladehold and even Siege Rhino and I think that PW are a better option at this cost. They are usually harder to kill and can give us more "virtual advantage" at late game.
I haven't played a lot against Burn, but on my experience is a hard matchup. I play an enlightened tutor side and a Warmth. I've chosen it over Circle of Protection: Red because the last is a mana sink. Do you think that only 1 kor firewalker is enough against them?

The answer is then: No, I don't think kor firewalker is enough. I have also one more Hymn, Teeg and Cannonist(Not super good). Rest of the sidebroad are fillers becasue it's better then Dark Confidant and Thoughtseize.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Brutality seems like a very versatile card. I'll be running one in my list for the upcoming GPT over my Hero of Bladehold (hasn't been doing well lately). Hopefully it does some work :)

Is it i your sideborad or main board? Seems odd to replace a big beater with unitlity card.
Hero of Bladehold won me games. It have been good when I have grind them down and play Hero, then win next turn.
But it cost 4 mana and it's hard to cast. I have Grim Flayer in Heros place now and Grim is a nice card. :)
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Wilkin, do you ever feel like you have a lack of G mana in games where you are bringing your decays in?
I tried a list very similar to yours, minus the shriekmaws (too scared to put 2 of them in a deck with bob opting for the 4th SFM and 4th souls) and always felt like I never had the mana to cast them again BGx decks that also played wasteland e.g. shardless and aggro loam. Maybe i'm bringing them in too aggressively or not imprinting the correct cards on chrome mox but they seem fine in matchups where you basically want more then 2-3 vindicates. On the plus side my delver opponent learned that delver + angler does not actually race hero + souls.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I just vomited at the thought of souls + hero
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Lol. I've managed to have souls and hero only twice but each time I also cast zealous persecution. Yep, I know how to overkill. As far as decay is concerned, I've had instances where I couldn't cast it but not too often since my decay in the board is only for miracles and/or decks that don't attack my mana base (well except for painter). Against a deck like shardless I don't bother siding the other decay.

Hero hasn't been doing much of anything for me recently, though I do like it. I think the collective brutality is a better pick for the meta that I'm expecting.
Are you running a single flayer? I picked up a set but haven't found any space for them in Dead guy so far. Seems like it could be worth testing though
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I got to 32th place in Swedish Legacy Championship. I went 4-3-drop. I will make a report about it tomorrow

K. Name a 1/1 with Lifelink people play in Legacy
K thx.
QED.
Second. Kaya isn't hymn, it also draws cards. The point is that the ability is comparable to hymn on the "1/1 to CA without making several paragraphs of explanation why your point is dumb"

Sorin is CDA if they attack him to death. Must you? Is this really a damn thing I have to explain?
That doesn't happen with Blossom. Please don't call a 4-mana 1/1 Lifelink better than an opponent spending 2 mana to Decay your Blossom.

You don't.
You should.. but honestly she already drew you a card and did the Jace thing. Would you pick Sorin over Jace? I doubt it. Kaya is the same deal. Yeah she doesn't make a spirit. Well done, you read the card.
The problem is that Sorin has to *ult* to get a card. Ever. Kaya gets you *two* cards (a draw and a opp discard) the second she lands. If she then dies; it's no worse than the Jace that landed and then got Goyf'd to draw a card.
I don't know how to describe "just go read the card again" or "understand Card Advantage." Feel free to say "I think 1/1s are more powerful against Miracles because they require a separate answer to the answer to the walker." I'd buy that line of reasoning. That is a fair position. This, or the idea that you may "crusade" to victory the turn he drops or some goofyness, sure. I can understand someone holding that realistic position.
The idea that Sorin is anything but a 4-mana Bitterblossom or Crusade and that he's *better* than BB is preposterous to me. The reason you take him is because 4-mana gets through CB and he's easier to cast than Elspeth. Blossom is a clear favorite against Miracles if you could cast it through CB reliably; because it doesn't have to be sided in or screw you against D&T/Delver/Etc.
EDIT:
Also keep in mind, just like Kaya, if you are behind on Board and you drop Sorin, you will not be ahead on board. He'll still die to attacking except in non-evasive, non-swarm board states with only a single creature. In fact, this is my entire point. Sometimes you play a 4-mana Brainstorm that gains you a few life because it's better than not playing it. The nice thing is, it replaced itself. As does Kaya. Getting a 1/1 as your "replacement" is pretty garbage; this is the axis that I am speaking on.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
How often are you being swarmed though? This deck plays a pile of removal. Idk. In practice he was rarely bad for me. It was pre mentor though. I could see both being good, but I always was on the plan of winning on the board rather than in hand which is why I cut down on hand disruption a bit. Making 1/1 ground guys that can chump and make them attack sorin or else he threatens a pretty powerful ultimate is a good plan against all kinds of things.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Didn't do so well in the GPT. Played against Infect, Burn, DnT, Miracles, and Pod Nic Fit. Ended up 2-3 with wins against Infect and Burn. Made two crucial play mistakes that cost me the two matches vs the DnT and Nic Fit.
Collective Brutality was great though. Absolutely disgusting vs Burn, didn't draw it in the other matchups though it seems like it would have been fine. I'll be keeping it in the main for now. I also want to test Flayer now, though I can't really imagine what to cut, besides replacing the tidehollows.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I just don't know how great it can be in this deck. What's the best thing to discard with it? Souls and like an extra discard spells?

Won against Team America, Eldrazi and ANT.
I was so happy I was playing 4 Wastelands, since it won me both games against Team America, the first game against Eldrazi and the first against ANT.
Flayer is awesome, although when I played him, the game was already over, but he secured it.
Tidehollow Sculler was MVP in all 3 rounds.

Oh, this looks extacly like my deck with all 75 (I don't run Cabal and 4 wasteland).
I feel honored and glad to hear that you went 3-0. There were no issue with the manabase for you?
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I read a post on the Nic Fit thread. A recent list (that did pretty good 20th at the Balitmore SCG I believe) had Kaya in the sideboard and it was meant for Miracles. And they liked what they saw.
So there's some food for thought. I'm curious as well as to what other matchups you would put her in. In any case, I'm all for experimentation. Otherwise, the deck gets too stagnant.
I mean, I tried Elspeth.....Sun's Champion a few times. Yes, I'm insane. Again, it was for miracles. 6 is hard to counterbalance, only 4 cards hit it (Terminus). The minus ability is good for clearing out Angel tokens. And the plus makes 3 soldiers. But, the reality for me was I never got to see her, which is strange for me I know since I see my singletons more than most people.
And to comment on being really behind and playing a planeswalker and having that walker turn the tide. IMO, even Jace can't get you out of every funk. The closest that comes to mind that is played in Legacy is Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. I sometimes play MUD and I've only lost once when I resolved an Ugin. I recently beat a UR Delver deck in 2 games and both times I was behind but Ugin wiped the board clean.
As far as my deck goes. I'm probably going to take out the Palace Jailer. Miracles plays a bunch of flash creatures so it's not as good as I thought it could be. Plus, Jailer was basically a win more card for me. The deck I destroyed with Jailer was aggro loam, a deck I usually beat anyway. It was still fun though seeing the look on my opponents and spectators faces seeing him lose to a Conspiracy card and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar in game 3.

I agree your argument. I like the reply.
I agree now that Kaya is better in CD then Sorin. I stillt hin Sorin is better to make a boradpressn and works well aggrasivly with Lingering Souls. I want to playtest Kaya and see how she goes.
However, I have no room for a 4 mana planeswalker right now. I like to play more with my deck how it looks now.
The tourment report is on it's way. Hoefully my computer at home works when I come home. :(
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Sorry for double posting but here is my report from the tourment for two weeks ago:
http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/s...540#post978540
I want to try out Xod's mana base if it works out for my deck. I have a Karakas now that I can put in the deck
