Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
Ready to battle again, after a lot of time away from Mtg..... I'm preparing the SB after the top's ban of course. It's based on the old Brandon/Rodrigo's guide, this is my idea on how to update it. Some consideration:
*I keep green: decay is the best universal answer, and xantid can win alone some games.
*Dark petition is not here against oppo's surgical, it's more like a replacemente for nauseam when I have to side it out. Any opponent can play surgical in theory, I don't wanna waste 1 side-in slot every time. DP can also be a burning wish, or pyroclasm maybe, I'm not 100% sure.
*against wasteland deck, rain of filth is bad.
*against discard, mox is generally out
*I think all the cards in SB are used against different matchups, it's quite optimized. The only thing is dread of night, but it's soooo good against D&T. And with the fucking mum, decay/bounce are quite useless, I don't find any other good options
Hope to test it soon!!!

Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
I played CabalTherapy's Grim Storm today. I'm used to Sloshstorm with EtW MD and 2 SDT but...
I had the opportunity to Grim Tutor for a singleton Crypt against manaless dredge. Played out 1 very awful AdN that ended with me casting a PIF to replay some cantrips to find the Tendrils (which I did:wink:) Also, against Burn,
I played CT naming Pyrostatic Pillar - hit, they cast Eidolon and then I Fatal Pushed it.
Most kills were through PIF and natural Tendrils.

I have a reasonably similar looking sideboard to you and one suggestion I'd like to make is to move to Bayou to Badlands. Your mana will be noticeably better, despite what it looks like on paper. There are very few, if any, matchups where you'll need both Xantid Swarm as well as Decay and there are more matchups in general where you'll want neither. I also tried keeping the original green splash, with 3 decays and some other green cards in the sideboard and quickly found the green lands to be fairly clunky. Moving back to Trop only has been an improvement IMO
Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
What is the benefit of a second red mana source? I'm not running Etw maindeck, just 1 pif, no red in side.....
I'd like to have 2 green sources against wasteland: I often fetch for red only during the turn I combo off, or when I'm sure there is no wasteland around. Also because I don't need red mana in early game. Green indeed can be necessary to decay a chalice to keep using cantrips, or to kill a leovold. I don't wanna lose my only green land and losing so the possibility to cast another decay if necessary.
Maybe another basic land can be used as a replacement for the second green land, this makes sense, cause having less decays means also that you don't need to cast all of them, and also if a land is gone, maybe you will never find the second decay.
But in a list with no empty main, no burning wish, no red cards in the sideboard, I really don't think badlands can help the "mana consistency".

Red better supports both your game plan a and one of your strongest alternative angles of attack vs delver. Green supports only a small piece of disruption for which there are decent alternatives that are on colour (eg vs chalice you have some decent blue options). At least proxy it to try, maybe you won't find it as useful as I did but it has to at least be worth testing

What you say here is true. Despite that, it is also true that it's not really uncommon to use LED or Petal to get the red mana you need to support the pif plan; actually, in my experience with the deck, that's what happens in most combo scenarios. However, you can't cast Xanthid or Decay through LED, and it's really too expensive to do so via Lotus Petal (you waste a card and a potential spell of your combo). This is obviously a point in favour of Bayou if you play green.
There's this one dude who does well online (couple 5-0's) whose name's Surfinbird19 and he inspired me with his manabase:
4 Polluted Delta
2 Scalding Tarn
2 Bloodstained Mire
2 Underground Sea
1 Volcanic Island
1 Tropical Island
1 Bayou
1 Island
1 Swamp
His fetchlands actually support the idea of getting that volcanic island with more consistency, but he plays Bayou as 5th dual in order to support his sideboard choices which are 2x Decay and 2x Swarm.
I've got yet to buy my copy of Badlands, but as for now i've been testing this setup and I've got no problems with it (except Eldrazi Stompy is still a nightmare, but whatever).
Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
3–2 at the GPT at my local yesterday. BReanimator was the only match that felt really bad; managed to win game 2, but in the other two games quick Chancellors got me before I could put anything together. I punted really hard in the other match I lost, which was Aluren. I think the metagame generally was a bit weird. The only matchup with Force was Aluren, and against all odds, I managed to race PSI twice in a row. Tendrils for 6 is a valid line of play sometimes. My other matchups were Dark Depths and a U/B control deck with Psychic Venoms. I didn't feel the need for much of anything out of the sideboard; against Depths I brought in two Chains and an Echoing Truth. I also brought in two Surgicals because it was round 1 and I was being a bit dumb.
Regarding land choices, I only have 2 green cards in the 75 (Abrupt Decay), so I've said "bye" to the Bayou (Byeou?). I also find that having an extra red source is nice when I 'board up to 15 lands.
I'm by no means someone who should be up on a high horse, but I feel like a lot of people lean a bit too heavily on LED and (to a lesser extent) Petal. There are times when having an extra red mana can mean the difference between winning and losing, and I don't like the idea of getting Wasted off of the color if we only have a Volcanic. Even on 14 cantrips, there are times when the brown cards just never make an appearance and Ad Nauseam isn't a realistic option. Also worth pointing out that Null Rod and Chalice are really yucky for those cards.
My sideboard's up in the air right now, but this is what I ran yesterday.
2x Abrupt Decay
2x Fatal Push
2x Chain of Vapor
2x Hurkyl's Recall (probably should be a 3x)
2x Surgical Extraction
1x Faerie Macabre (surprise MVP)
1x Empty the Warrens
1x Echoing Truth
1x Tendrils of Agony
1x Badlands

you say that you have only 2 green cards in your deck, so you don't need bayou. But how many red cards you have? If only 1 pif md and 1 etw sb, I don't find the need of a second red mana source.
I agree with Cave about the color idea. Really, I prefer more basic lands rather than sub-optimal duals.
Why 3 hurkyl? So much space dedicated to artifact hate.....are eldrazi, big red, aggro loam so common in your LGS?

Hey!
I'm actually running two Past in Flames main with Empty in the sideboard. One thing I probably should've mentioned is that I'm seriously considering adding a Burning Wish or an Empty to the maindeck. So I'm not running that much red, but I still feel like it's a good idea to have some backup in the 75. My initial plan when Top took a dive was to replace my mainboard Tropical with an Island and run a Bayou instead in the sideboard. I might go back to that configuration, though I've not had a lot of time to test since the ban and I'm not very good at Magic.
I haven't faced many Chalices lately, but I think I have a somewhat unorthodox approach to my 'board. I tend to sideboard very little for matchups that I think we're favored to win. So for Delvers and such, I usually only change one or two cards. The way I see it is that there are a) decks for which sideboarding doesn't really accomplish much (e.g. Dredge or Elves); b) decks for which light sideboarding is often all we need (e.g. Delvers, Stoneblade, non-prison creature strats); and c) decks that will really wreck us if we're not prepared, and sometimes even if we are (e.g. hatebears, Eldrazi, Reanimator, Poops All Spells). I didn't feel like I was getting much mileage out of cards like Xantid Swarm or Abrupt Decay, so my sideboard is essentially geared toward shoring up those rough "type-c" matchups with specialized hate. Hence all the spot removal, the 3x grave-hate, and the 3x Chalice hate. (N.B.: those cards also happen to be excellent against a number of rare decks for which we normally wouldn't sideboard much.) I still need to get my hands on Flusterstorm; that will probably change my setup a bit.

I am. I'm not convinced that configuration would be better overall. Minimizing the need for red mana is nice, I guess, but I think Infernal Tutor is just better than Dark Petition. If you could play five Infernal Tutors, you wouldn't play Dark Petition in the board. I don't want eight maindeck tutors like TES has.

I totally agree with this argument. Against prison deck you want to increase the number of answer, because your cantrips are off and you have to topdeck them (or better have one of them on your opening hand). Increasing the number of answer against artifact hate will be probably one of my first modification to my sb.

2 Pyroclasm

I know S&S is not a bad pairing for us, but now we've got a lot of space in th sideboard and i think CP is a good way to turn the MU to very favourable. CP +SE are nice against reanimator too aand serenity is the best answer possible against multiple spheres against Eldrazis, Stompys and Loam but they are also nice against burn. I'd like to discuss a bit about it before wasting 75 tix in 3 Priests on MTGO:tongue:
Yes I mentioned splashing white for containment priest on the last page, but switched over to TES because I thought it was much better vs delver decks. but you seem to be doing very well.. do you find the delver decks to be good matchups for you? or just barely squeezing wins in?
and I think priest is very very good.. been splashing for her not just in my storm deck but also my UR delver deck and so impressed.. and if you don't like her you can sell her back to bots so not a complete waste of 75 tix.
the main thing to consider is if she is too slow vs reanimator.. for show and tell we could just run heart of ghirupar or more flusterstorms to help, since if priest isn't fast enough vs reanimator we should just stick to grave hate cards that are faster since otherwise we will just die to them every time with her in hand.. but if she is good generally vs reanimator we can keep her and also run her vs show and tell.. and things will be nice.
white also gives us access to silence which could be a possibility, but also possibly just a bad duress/flusterstorm.
and ronald deuce.. I really like your approach to sideboarding, I build mine in the same way.

Hi to all!
I've been trying 3 by Force over Hurkyl's Recall because sometimes bouncing a chalice is not enough: we need more than one turn to play cantrips and then go off. After the top ban i've played against 5 Aggroloam (where 3 by force, 2 echoing 2 pyroclasm are great) and against 2 Moon stompy (being able to kill trinispheres and chalices through a moon lock without wasting petals is nice too, and pyroclasm kills magus and revokers) and 0 eldrazis (where i'm sure hurkyl's will be better because they kill us to fast to be able to destroy a thron with a by force).
I decided running by force over meltdown after comparing their manacost in different situations:
VS Chalice (@1): BF 2 MD 2
VS Thorn: BF 3 MD 4
VS Canonist/Revoker: BF 2 MD 3
VS Trinisphere: BF 3 MD 4
VS Chalice(@0) + Chalice (@1): BF 3 MD 2 (the only situation where it is better)
VS Chalice (@1) + Thorn: BF 4 MD 4
VS Chalice (@1) + Canonist/Revoker: BF 3 MD 3
VS Thorn + Thorn: BF 5 MD 5
VS Thorn + Canonist/Revoker: BF 4 MD 4
VS Canonist + Revoker: BF 3 MD 3
So i've chosen By force because it is better in "one target" situations and as good as meltdown in most of the multiple target situations. Anyways, i still don't want to draw any conclusions about the card until i use it in more matches.
Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
@Surfinbird
Any reason you like Dark Petition over Burning Wish?
Why 3 Dread of Night instead of a split with Massacre?
Can we get a brief sideboard guide for that list?
Re: [DTB] ANT (Ad Nauseam Tendrils) Storm Combo
I recently got back into producing content again, my first league run with Storm is live now: Complete Storm League Playlist — #thedailywars #8-12
I definitely plan on recording another League with the deck in the near future and do it justice.

1) Burning requires having red when we go off. It can't find Ad Nauseam and doesn't play well with PiF. Also you have to spend some sideboard slots to use it correctly. 2 DP just work as the 5th and 6th Infernals, being just a little worse.
2) 3 Dreads +2 pyrocasm +1/2 echoing are fantastic against Death Taxes and GW. I liked massacre, but i ended tired of losing against opponents playing their creatures from caverns, karakas and vials. At the end the pairing is favourable and some pushes+pyroclasms+massacres+what you want could do the job, but now that we have a lot of SB space i prefer to have 3 dreads to win the 90% of the games.
3) Let's go:
VS Grixis Delver, RUG Delver, BUG Delver/ Czech Pile:
+1 Empty the Warrens -1 Dark Petition
VS ANT:
+2 Surgical Extraction +2 Tormod's Crypt -1 Island -1 Swamp -2 Preordain
VS Sneak and Show:
+1 Surgical Extraction (Echoing Truth if they run Leylines) -1 Island
VS Elves:
+2 Pyroclasm -1 Island -1 Cabal Therapy
VS BR Reanimator:
+2 Tormod's Crypt +2 Surgical Extraction +1 Echoing Truth -1 Island -1 Swamp -2 Preordain -1 Cabal Therapy
VS UR Delver:
+1 Empty the Warrens -1 Ad Nauseam
VS 4C Loam/ Red Stompy:
+3 By Force +2 Pyroclasm +2 Echoing Truth +1 Empty the Warrens -2 Duress -3 Cabal Therapy -2 Dark Petition -1 Preordain
VS Death and Taxes/GW Zenith
+3 Dread of night +2 Pyroclasm +2 Echoing Truth +1 Empty the Warrens -3 Duress -2 Dark Petition -1 Preordain -2 Cabal Therapy
VS Eldrazis
+3 By Force +2 Echoing Truth +1 Empty the Warrens -3 Cabal Therapy - 2 Dark Petition -1 Preordain
Vs Deathblade/Stoneblade
+2 Pyroclasm +1 Echoing Truth -1 Dark Petition -1 Cabal Ritual -1 Lotus Petal

Thanks! I'm probably still on Wishes for now, but I'll give your list a spin at least once before I make any decisions about Vegas.

I've been trying a white splash online. Still not decided on anything except that serenity is great. But I also realised that silence is actually pretty good against BR reanimator: they have no way of countering it, and no way of reanimating at instant speed, so it's a guaranteed 1 mana time walk if you play it in their upkeep. Even if you can't win the turn after the silence, you may find another piece of hate.
