[Deck] The Rock

I would be inclined to think it is slightly win-more. We can't abuse CitP effects outside of SFM unless you have Eternal Witness and Tidehollow Sculler and we run few expendable creatures (Lingering Souls and Dryad Arbor) to consistently abuse it whenever we draw it. It largely becomes a 2B Goyf, Knight, or Bob...which isn't all that unspectacular, but it also one more card that leans on the graveyard and by itself could simply be a GSZ...or even Immortal Servitude if you want to go that route.

I do think it would be a great attrition card, but unless you have Lingering Souls as a constant source of sac critters then it is often dead draw...esp considering the use of Cabal Therapy as of late. And if you're firing off Lingering Souls, that's usually enough to win the game anyway.

I thoroughly enjoy the card and would love to run it though, so if some good testing comes along (maybe the new Rotlung Reanimator for humans?) then by all means throw something up here.

Went in a small legacy in our local and resulted in 3-1 standing here's my MD and MUs I modified small quantity in my list after cerberus rebellion township

Observation: I felt like I didn't maximize KOTR in my MUs other than a straight beater, and looking at tier decks: miracle control, sneaky show, BUG control, dnt, I think KOTR will underperform except sneak show fetch karakas. And my initial plan is replace it by ooze then -1 maze and +1 karakas or sfm package. Wat'ya think guys? and what is your recent list?

To get the most out of KotR now you need to change your utility lands. With your meta I'd suggest Cabal Pit (kill Mirran Crusader, Mother of Runes, SFM, DRS, Creeping Tarpit) and either Tower of the Magistrate or Nantuko Monastery, depending on if Miracle Control and BUG Control run SFM or not. Tower is also good if Reanimator grabs an artifact creature, but that's pretty narrow - Tower is used to punish Equipment.

Maze of Ith is still good for stopping Reanimator targets, Equipped creatures, Tarpit, and delay Miracle Angel death.

So I feel like something like this is where I want to be:

Combo's super popular around here at the moment, so I'm switching to a more proactive mainboard. I'm thinking about moving Thalia to replace Liliana, but I want more hard to deal with threats that are relevant to combo decks (with Liliana being semi-relevant in combo and good elsewhere, whereas Souls was crap against Combo).

Hexmage was excellent, but frequently coming out against Combo and was dead many, many game 1's. Hymn is relevant against Combo as well.

Souls still out attritions the midrange and control decks, Tower for the Equipment and Shardless decks, Charm for swarm and Combo/Omni/Empty tokens, Deed for everything, and Teeg and Thalia for Combo/Control.

Hi everybody,

today wie had a Legacy turney in our local shop with 20 people and I went 1st with BGW Rockblade.
So after the good finish I wanted to share this with you.

Short report:

Round 1: Imperial Painter 2:1

Round 2: Punishing Jund 2:0

Round 3: Elves 2:1

Round 4: 4c Aggro Loam ( with P. Fire) 2:0

Round 5: Dragon Stompy 2:0

So i finished 5:0 and got 4 Modern Masters Booster + 5 Gatecrash Booster.

Last Month I played a list with 3 Knight, but I cutted them for a 4th Decay, 3rd L. Souls and a 3rd Lilli.
I was very happy with the list and think that SFM gives the deck the right weapons to fight other fair decks. Lingering Souls + Equipment is just super smooth.
I tried out the 2 plaques and 2 charms in the SB and they were great against elves.

Got 2 modern master packs as prize. I can't give awesome results regarding about my sideboard for example I side in souls in my jund, BUG, UWR delver MU but they never came only relevant sb cards I drew and use was thalia for SnT bit weird about the cards I drew in my postboarding MUs. Plus my traditional list I run 23 lands yesterday I run 22 and added 1 GSZ reason was I cut bog since GY decks in our meta are in small quantity and shaman+ooze will do the job, but rounds 1-4, 6 are consistently mulligan to 6 even I mulligan to 5 both games 1,2 for BUG searching for an opening of just 2 lands also as consequence even I have relevant hate cards but 1 lander/0 lander I have to mulligan the opening example against elves I have good opening mass removals and other spells no shaman and 1 lander, and I think 23 lands is optimal in my list and I will bring it back.

the most notable thing in the maindeck is highlighted :P, the 2 dryad arbors
first it was a silly thought i had to maximize the effectivness of cabal therapy, and maze of ith, which occupied this slot previously did not do that much work for me anymore, sadly because i loved the card. The intresting thing i realized with the 2 MD arbors was completely unexpected aside of the cabal therapy thing. I started using my arbors, cabal therapys, knights, and specially GSZ in a total different way

some math:

i previously ran 2 GSZ and 2 cabal therapys with a probability of having both in my starting hand of 4%
now with 3/3 each i have a probability of a bit more than 10%, which makes a huge difference, specially in the early game because GSZ and therapy work so well together for a more tempoish/disruptive approach to the early game

very nice example of line of play
1st turn Bayou + GSZ into arbor
2nd turn another land + Cabal therapy + use mana from arbor and other land, sac arbor to flashback therapy, + goyf/confidant/library

with the double arbor the flexibility of using GSZ increases a lot, much more then i initially thought

- in my list i basically have 10 1 CMC discard spells (bit conditional but true)
- with active knight every GSZ becomes a 1-mana Wasteland and it happened to me that i tripple wastelanded an opponent on turn 3 or 4 a few times without losing one of my precious duals :P
- with loam from the side i can get infinite blockers

and the rest of possible uses of GSZ are obvious

- manadork (for a total of 7 in the deck)
- utility with a few targets in the deck
- higher threat-density
- sac-target for opposing liliana

I think the lion has the best chance of playability. A 3/3 for 2 is not the worst deal in the book and the fact that it turns into a 4/4 hexproof indestructible creature is super icing on the cake.

The list above lacks CCs. The cat is GW, Gorgon is 2BG and bow is 1GG.

The cat is an improved Watchwolf and it has been many years since I have seen one in any list. The monstrosity cost is too big to make it significant and anyone considering paying this will likely be much better of playing voice of resurgence. Maybe if monstrosity will be ruled so that if this card gets +1/+1 through other means it is monstrous it could be playable with some other support cards.

Gorgon is a solid creature for 4CMC, especially since we seek some good beaters that are not GY dependent, but I don't think it does enough.

Bow does a lot, but is very expensive. I would love to have a card that does something useful and occasionally kills Delvers and defeats this burn deck you always somehow end playing against. However I think the cost is too prohibitive for what it does.

I think the 4 mana hexproof guy has some play. He doesn't die to Abrupt Decay, scryes when stuff dies, and can Deathtouch to push through or do it midcombat. Seems interesting, but not sure if it's the droids we're looking for.

In other news, I'll be testing Loxodon Smiter. Card seems GOOD.

Not sure how many folks are playing Lingering Souls these days, or how many, but I can imagine this Reaper of the Wild being quite good with Souls, Cabal Therapy, and all of the removal that this deck plays (Abrupt Decay, Liliana, Pulse, Vindicate, etc.) The mana requirement for hexproof is a little sticky (six mana is A LOT) but still seems solid. Once you start doubling up with Therapy while digging into your own deck you should be doing really well, especially when you are looking to fight the other grindy decks of the format (Jund, Miracles.) It looks like there will be a few 4/4+ creatures in Theros for 4 mana.

However, recall that Abrupt Decay doesn't hit it. Against most decks, you're even unlikely to need Hexproof, since they don't play STP. Against the decks that DO play STP, waiting until Turn 6 isn't a big deal.

i have to admit, Reaper of the Wild sounds like a rather useful creature

deathtouch, hexproof, and a rather big body too, additional GSZ target for grindy matchups, non-decayable, scry for additional library manipulation (conditionald but helps for sure)

I don't know if this gorgon is going to be good enough to see play in legacy, even though she is pretty pushed.

However, @ 4 mana I'd rather play Thrun, even though the cost is more prohibitive. Also playing this will almost push you to play lingering souls and therapy, and if you want full value you're going to have to wait till T4 in order to flashback therapy. I always thought that it was the nuts going bayou therapy and then arbor flashback haha. Scrying for every creature that dies is a pretty sweet deal though, basically ensures that you won't be drawing dead late game.

I am intrigued by this gorgon and I look forward to seeing what kind of results she will put up. I will be testing these as well, but as a preliminary look it seems kinda clunky.
