Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Innocent Blood:
- Facing down a single fatty (Reanimator, Show and Tell)
- Need a way to kill one of my own guys to exile Bridge from Below
- Sacrifice outlet for Veteran Explorer (usually, if I'm looking to reach 7 lands for Scapeshift this turn)
- Sometimes you just need to kill the enemy Mongoose / Goyf / Blighted Agent / whatever and only have 3 mana available
Innocent Blood is the best one-mana removal spell in Jund colours, basically. We don't care too much about sacrificing our own guys. It doesn't kill Inkmoth Nexus or EOT Marit Lage, but other than that it's a pretty good universal answer to single threats.
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
@Navsi: No plans yet to upgrade SG to Lost Legacy?
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Lost Legacy:
- Costs 1 mana less
- Castable in nonred lists
Slaughter Games:
- Can't be countered
- Works against Painter's Servant/Grindstone
- Sometimes hits cards in hand and puts you up cards
- Castable with single black mana
- Targets Opponents, not Players, so you can't Misdirection it (hah)
It needs testing imo. I wouldn't be surprised if Lost Legacy saw a lot of play in nonred lists. Having to make double-black means you also need two Swamps in your deck which is a non-negligible deckbuilding restriction, particularly for Scapeshift lists which skimp on black sources quite regularly.

I thought about it when it came out, but decided no. It's a mana less but it also gets you a weaker body. The problem is that the recruiter is tough to consider a full card as just a 1/1 so it's just 3 mana to get something else, the body is 2 and possibly 3 points of mana above curve. Ranger is actually respectable but not great as a 3/2 which is just 1 point of mana above curve.
In a deck that doesn't have as much mana available as we do, it could be better to go for the Recruiter in order to maximize efficiency, but we don't have to do that. Instead I would rather have the more powerful effect.
Edit: Plus, a 3 vs 1 is very different from a 2 vs 1. With what's essentially a draw 3 you pick up a lot more velocity and put pressure on the opponent. With Recruiter, they can ignore the recruiter, leave us with a 1/1, and kill whatever I tutor. With Ranger I already have the pressure of a 3 power creature, but realistically they're only going to have 2 removal spells left at this point (if even that many). So I'm practically guaranteed to get a threat or two and there's a solid variation in what I get.
The biggest downside is that the Ranger doesn't come up as often as I would like. I think I'm a bit unlucky with drawing it though.

That should be easily solved.
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Yeah, just have to put in a recruiter of the guard to fetch a ranger of Eos : problem solved !

Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Hello,
I've been working for a while on the following two lists:
Abzan Control Fit by Ralf
2 Swamp
1 Plains
3 Forest
2 Bayou
2 Savannah
3 Scrubland
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Windswept Heath
1 Phyrexian Tower
4 Veteran Explorer
2 Deathrite Shaman
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Voice of Resurgence
1 Eternal Witness
1 Courser of Kruphix
2 Siege Rhino
1 Sigarda, Host of Herons
1 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
1 Garruk Relentless
1 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
3 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Pernicious Deed
1 Recurring Nightmare
3 Path to Exile
3 Abrupt Decay
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Green Sun's Zenith
1 Maelstrom Pulse
1 Diabolic Intent
Here are a few explanations:
- I have eschewed "red" for now. I tried to play a Taiga (instead of a Savannah) and a Huntmaster instead of a Rhino. Unfortunately, given the actual metagame, Rhino seems to be overall better. It does prevent us from playing a few interesting red spells in the side but I really doubt we need them right now.
- I'm playing 60 MD cards. But I can see one playing 61 cards. Tracker can be your 61th card.
- Nissa really pulled her weight. I suggest you try her.
- I also was really impressed by Voice of Resurgence. This little "fucker" has been underrated for ages.
I don't provide any sideboard plans for the moment as I'm still debating on 2 options:
- One classical: 2 cards against various MU including extra discard, hatebears, sweepers, gravehate etc...
- One not very typical: transforming the deck into something more Rockish (Bob, Tarmo, Sculler, SFM etc...
Obviously if I don't bite the bullet approach and go for the Rock attitude, the MD will be adjusted a bit (Intent / Recurring might go)
************
The second build is a completely new approach to Scape Fit, derived from Modern "cherry picking":
Temur Scape Fit by Ralf
1 Tropical Island
2 Steam Vents
2 Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
3 Forest
4 Island
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Taiga
4 Volcanic Island
2 Wood Elves
3 Snapcaster Mage
4 Veteran Explorer
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Brainstorm
4 Cryptic Command
4 Perilous Research
4 Tangle
3 Scapeshift
4 Pyroclasm
Miracle and Combo are tough MU for G1 (this is no surprise) but against other decks you would be very suprised.
So by posting my brew, I thought I could get a few feedbacks on how *you* would build a side for this kind of deck. Or at least discuss some options
I won't propose any sideboard ideas for now as I prefer people to help me by thinking from scratch...
Well obviously, it requires a few "test runs" to get a good grip of the list as this is not a very conventional Nic Fit deck.
The whole deck is now more reactive than proactive and THIS requires some practise.
You also have to learn to play and fetch for Island and Forest, 90% of the time.
Anyway, let me decrypt a few things for you:
- Perilous Research is our new "Cabal Therapy". Being an instant means a lot of thing and allows plays you wouldn't have thought before:
1) Chump block with any creature. Resolve PR before damages, sac your dead dude.
2) Respond with PR to a wasteland activation targetting one of your non basic land.
3) Recycle multiple SDT: Activate the draw ability of SDT, keep priority, play PR.
I'm not gonna list them all, and I am not pretending there is some "outstanding" magic in here, but I thought it was better saying it than not.
- Tangle has been preferred to Moment's peace BECAUSE I am also playing SCM. Tangle, then SCM + Tangle (two turns later) is 4 free turns of combat damages.
Here are a few things that has been tested and eschewed:
- Eternal Witness. There is a nasty loop with Cryptic, here. But this was pushing the deck and felt relatively "inconsistent".
- I also tried and dismissed Unsubstantiate. It enables so many good trixes but same as above.
Anyway, for those interested in trying it, please keep me posted.
For others, any ideas are always welcomed.
Happy testing & sharing !
Ralf.

Not sure I like the Scapeshift route, but like usual I like where your head is at with various aspects of the deck, this time it being Perilous Research. I'll have to think about it some, decoupling the deck from black is a pretty big deal. Maybe Bant with Hierarchs over DRS and more Voice.
Anyways, with the Junk idea, consider Monastery Mentor in your SB, and I've been liking Sculler in a combo light meta, or maybe it's good in a heavy combo world too. Getting a clock with your disruption is powerful.

Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
You're right. Also, I'm usually feeling flooded. Should probably be -1 Courser, -1 Sakura Tribe-Elder, -1 Misty Rainforest, +3 Tops

Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
I'd cut the Sky Swallower if you also cut a land and the STE. 7 mana is a lot, especially when you're going down to 21 land and minus 1 ramp.
Besides, SDT + Courser is stupidly good.
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Sounds good! SSS was kind of a joke top end. I really want another Tracker in there somewhere

Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
That's going to be a toughy. Your list is packed as hell, lol. Perilous + Meren is a nice touch, by the way.

Have to agree. My Christmas present to myself this year is probably going to be a Tropical/Underground. With those I would love to play BUG. Love the idea of Perilous Research as an enabler.
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
TTX-I love a lot of what your doing in this deck but the 2 x peel from reality in the SB seems really suboptimal especially given the need to cram as much goodness as possible into sideboards in general.
Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Ya, I felt the list was very weak to Marit Lage. Repeal or Stifle are probably better answers.

Re: [Primer/Deck] Nic Fit
Speaking of Marit Lage...is there a good way to deal with it in Jund colours that's not ridiculously narrow? My GBr list has a couple Pithing Needles for the Stage, some DRS, Surgicals and Slaughter Games to slow Lands down, but they eventually draw their combo and when they do I'm done. Any suggestions on how to deal with a Lage token?
Also, to the above poster, I may be misunderstanding you but Stifling a Marit Lage isn't going to work out how you want.
