I do not like gitaxian probe in this deck. The card advantage is nice but not at the expense of resources including life. I would rather run spell pierce and or more removal. It's not really gaining that much advantage in this deck. We're not running cabal therapy so it mediocre card advantage at best.
Just what i've noticed while playing.
Yeah, I agree after some amount of playtesting. Probe has helped me make some of my plays but never has been that impactful. When I had probe, I would rather have stp, pierce, or even land, which are the cards I cut in mainboard to run the three probes.Quote:

So far the life lost isn't an issue and probes aren't fantastic. They just help with deciding either to go all out when the opponent has no sweeper or if we should tapout etc. It's hit and miss in the md but never terrible. It also let's me drop the land count to 19 which is nice.
It shines post board though. With probe and meddling mage, it's a powerful combo. Against miracles and combo, the probe-mage interaction is just amazing.
So I'm looking at picking up this deck to play in my local 10-12 man tournaments. It's pretty much the same 8 or so people every week, with a couple randoms here and there. Majority of people don't really have access to duals (myself included) either, so Mono-colour decks are a little more prevalent I guess? The meta as far as i can tell is usually composed of these (in singleton):
Miracles
D&T
ANT
Tin Fins/ANT/UB Artifacts (Same guys, cycles between decks)
Jund (Most likely to be in multiple)
Manaless Dredge
Omnitell
Burn
So my question is, is UWR Delver a decent choice for this meta, and if so, any suggestions for a sideboard? I'm currently eying up this list. with a manabase consisting of 8 blue fetches, 2 Steam Vents, 4 Hallowed Fountain, 4 Wasteland and an Island (for Daze)
Any thoughts?

You have a lot of answers to many different types of decks... Bolt, StP, Pierce, FoW, etc etc etc... Gitaxian Probe gets you one card deeper while even more importantly giving you a look at their hand so that you may know exactly which you should use and which you should save. Sometimes they rely on their DRS to resolve for their hand to work but that's not typically something that you would counter. This gives you the information you need to use your disruption in exactly the way you need to. I like the count of three because it means that more often than not you'll have one in the first few turns of the game and that is exactly when you're wanting to play it, but not four because you don't want to continually cast it over and over during a game.
Has anybody considered council's judgement in this deck? I know 3 mana (double W) is a little tough on the manabase, but I think 1 or 2 copies in the sideboard as a catch all could be pretty good. I think dealing with an opposing TNN is something this deck struggles with.
Never been a fan of Probe. Never included it and has never crossed my mind to include it in my build. Sad too see the deck in Page 2 =|Quote:

Interesting list from Ben Friedman, he got TOP 2 on last scg invitacional event in Colombus
He used 2 Grim Lavamancer in MAIN deck, besides 2 probes. Majority recent lists are using probes, but I don't like that.
Besides, Manriki-Gusari and vendilion clique on sideboard are atypical.
What do you think about lavamancers in MD? I still don't have an opinion about that

BUG and Miracles. Elves, too, possibly.

I lost sometimes to Elves but the matchup is still positive.
To win they have to have a turn 2 or 3 kill with us having a bad draw.
Good cards against them are REMOVALS! Jitte and FOW
Bad cards against them Daze Spell Pierce and TNN
3-1ed the legacy challenge yesterday and playing in the open today with the same deck. Running Micheal Majors's list. Wish me luck!
