What did you play different from my list? I didnt have any trouble with UW Stoneblade, but it might have been my sideboard. I was really satisfied with those Spell Snares, might up count to 3.

Pretty much maxing out on synergies. Tons of evasive guys, bunch of sac outlets for Disciple, 8 virtual Platings, etc.
The U/w game 1 was him dropping SFM into Batterskull and countering the plating/foundry I had, along with removing my Ravager. Game 2 he drew both of his Energy Fluxes.
Spell Snare seems decent. I'll give it some testing.
Well, thats no real comparison. You dont even play Aether Vial which is the real bomb in this matchup.
Also I wouldn't play Ravager/Disciple these days, they just dont have what it takes.
Master of Etherium is a real bomb thats missing there too. Thopter Foundry does nothing at all.
If you want to win against Stoneblade, you really need that Seal of Cleansing to go active before Flux or Batterskull. I can just suggest Spell Snare as a real good out for opposing SFMs and Null Rod also.
I don't plan for hate since I usually only play this once a month to try to get the drop on my meta. Found out a while ago that people will start shitting on your parade if you run this out too many times in a row.
Yeah our lists are a bit different. Disciple has saved my ass one too many times against Deed to cut entirely. The most I've done is throw it in the board when I was playing Chalice/Tombs maindeck. Ravager has still been gold for me, doubt I would ever cut it. Haven't drawn foundry much live, but in testing it's been pretty nice, making evasive guys for Plating and double dipping on Disciple triggers.
MoE is fine and he's a 4 of in all of my other Affinity lists. Sometimes he just gets chumped for a few turns until they find the removal, though. I wanted to fully emphasize the "I'm gonna get Plating on an evasive guy eventually and kill you" route with this version.
Aether Vial is no longer very good in this deck. Also, running anything less than 4x Cranial Plating is criminal.
How badly does Affinity get owned by Mental Misstep? Taking that line of thinking a step further, would it make sense for Affinity to remove almost all 1-drops from the deck to prevent this vulnerability? For example, would a list with 3 Springleaf Drums as the only 1-drops make sense? For example:
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Frogmite
4 Arcbound Ravager
3 Myr Enforcer
4 Master of Etherium
2 Etched Champion
4 Mox Opal
3 Springleaf Drum
4 Cranial Plating
4 Thoughtcast
4 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
Many thanks for this thread, it's helped immensely over the past 5 months that I've been sleeving up Affinity in Legacy.
So first Legacy tournament in a while, running this list
4 Memnite
4 Signal Pest
4 Vault Skirge
2 Arcbound Ravager
4 Etched Champion
3 Master of Etherium
4 Frogmite
4 Myr Enforcer
4 Cranial Plating
3 Mox Opal
4 Springleaf Drum
3 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
4 Thoughtcast
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
3 Darksteel Citadel
2 Ancient Den
I'm pretty comfortable with the deck, it's sideboarding that kills me each and every time. Last time I had a sideboard I was expecting NO Bant and Dredge with possibly some ANT and Merfolk so I had a sideboard that consisted of
3 Diabolic Edict
3 Tormod's Crypt
4 Duress
3 Engineered Plague
2 Ethersworn Cannonist
Not sure what I'll face this weekend. I'm definitely expecting Dredge but other than that it's a bit of a guess. I figure maybe a mirror matchup, Stoneblade, Zoo. So, I'm thinking of this as a sideboard
3 Tormod's Crypt
4 Disciple of the Vault
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Dispatch
Crypts are there for Dredge. I'm about 50/50 with Dredge, but this typically gives me the edge in game 2. Debated between this and Relic of Progenitis, personally I like the Crypt better.
Disciples and Dispatch are for the mirror, with Dispatch being somewhat useful against Zoo and other creature based decks
Stoneforge is something that I haven't tried out yet, but I was thinking that it would be decent against Stoneblade and the mirror. Tutor and vial out my Plating seems like a good play
Anyways, I'm looking for some input so I can build and test a little before Saturday
Thanks so much!
Running zero Ornithopters but with Frogmites and Myr Enforcers? I think you should cut an Enforcer for the 4th Master. MOE's lord effect is great with the evasionless Frogmites and Enforcers, and hitting Enforcers 7 CMC can take a while anyway.
I think you should go with leyline instead. They will be siding artifact hate since you are playing affinity. Give them less value by playing a hoser that doesn't get hosed by their sb cards. Also, never really seen dredge win if LotV stuck.
Are there any aggressive list without Arcbound Ravager and Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas?
I ran no Ravager/Tezz at our monthly big legacy 3 months ago, but 1-3ed with it. It was interesting, but I haven't put any more work into it since then. I swapped out the card I thought would be better than Ravager in the deck for Ravager and haven't looked back. I would strongly suggest Ravager in most Affinity lists.
I can dig up the list if you'd like, though. It's somewhere in my files.
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Tree of Tales
4 Ancient Tomb
2 Darksteel Citadel
4 Mox Opal
3 Springleaf Drum
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Frogmite
4 Etched Champion
4 Steel Overseer
4 Master of Etherium
3 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Cranial Plating
4 Thoughtcast
//Sideboard
4 Thorn of Amethyst
3 Krosan Grip
3 Tormod's Crypt
2 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Choke
1 Phyrexian Revoker
The reasoning for this list was for it to play somewhere between Steel Stompy and Affinity. If you didn't draw disruption, you usually had a quick hand. Untapping with Overseer while dropping a bunch of cheap guys was amazing. Running Chalice and no Ravager made me swap black for green for sideboard options. Choke seemed fantastic, but I didn't play a single blue deck that entire tournament.
4/23/11 tournament summary:
Hate Bear Rock 2-1
G2 he gets T2 Kataki, G3 he gets t2 Null Rod but I had a plating on a thopter + chalice at 1 already.
Aggro Loam 0-2
G2 I had 3 2/2 Steel Overseers out when he dropped Seismic Assault and I didn't respond, EOT activating all 3 without passing priority. He killed all 3 in response. I good magic.
G/b Poison 1-2
G2 he T1 null rods with dark ritual. G3 he gets it T2 and I don't draw enough guys that end in -ite.
Rock 1-2
G2 I get Maze of Ith'ed forever until he finds Pernicious Deed. G3 I get deeded some more. Dropped.
I honestly couldn't tell you if the list was any good or not, since I ran into a fair amount of hate. If I were to run this list again without ravager, I would test out white over green for stoneforge instead of overseer/MoE(and possibly Seal of Cleansing sideboarded), or black over green for disciple in the board and a better shot at fighting Maze with plating's instant equip.
If you don't like the chalice versions, I would probably just run 4 Pest/Overseer/MoE and go lord + weenie beatdown. That probably would still want Ravager, though.
Hi,
I've recently played a lot around with Affinity and would appreciate some advice.
Here 's my list for reference:
3 Darksteel Citadel
3 Tree of Tales
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
4 Mox Opal
2 Springleaf Drum
4 Urza's Bauble
3 Mishra's Bauble
4 Memnite
4 Frogmite
4 Signal Pest
4 Steel Overseer
4 Master of Etherium
4 Thoughtcast
4 Cranial Plating
3 Cabal Therapy
2 Sylvan Library
Sideboard:
2 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Tormods Crypt
4 Mental Misstep
3 Krosan Grip
2 Darkblast
I've added the baubles to guarantee maximum speed (frogmites for free, thoughtcast for 1, and mox opal being able to produce mana T1 consistently). Ideally they help to play out ur hand faster and replace themselves with hopefully more gas, furthermore they play nicely together with cabal therapy.
I think the speed version could be the way to go, as u can also keep up with decks like Hivemind and others.
However, I am not sure about many deck choices:
Cabal Therapy vs Mental Misstep: therapy is especially good against other combo decks and helps to get rid of cards u dont want to see g2/3, but costs coloured mana, Mental Misstep is more conditional but is for free and can also hit relevent speels like Bstorm and StP
Ravager vs Steel Overseer: Ravager has dissynergy with Master and Plating but can make removal worthless and u can sac mox opals for it if one is stuck in ur hand, while steel overseer is very nice if u land him T1, but can easily be removed
Darksteel Citadel vs Ancient Tomb
Are you ready for a radically different list?
Radically different from what most perceived as what Affinity is?
Here is the list that I piloted to a 5-1 and got me 5th out of 63 people.
//Manabase
4 Vault of Whispers
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Darkslick Shores
3 Mox Opal
3 Springleaf Drum
//Creatures
3 Ornithopter
4 Memnite
4 Dark Confidant
3 Phyrexian Revoker
2 Steel Overseer
4 Etched Champion
3 Master of Etherium
//Spells
3 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
4 Cranial Plating
4 Mental Misstep
4 Thoughtcast
//Sideboard
1 Phyrexian Revoker
3 Perish
3 Spell Pierce
2 Tormod's Crypt
1 Pithing Needle
2 Mind Harness
3 Planar Void
My MUs were as follows:
Round 1: UW Stoneblade 2:1
Round 2: Zoo 2:0
Round 3: TES 2:1
Round 4: UBr Dreadstill 2:1
Round 5: Canadian Thresh 0:2
Round 6: Merfolk 2:0
The only change I'd make is -1 Drum / +1 BMoth Nexus.
If you're curious about the Darkslick Shore - originally, I wanted to play Underground Seas, but we didn't have any. Thus, I looked for a replacement. It not beign an Island ended up winning me the match against Merfolk.
I have a Legacy tourney on September 3rd and I was thinking about taking affinity there. Although there will be an unknown metagame, a friend told me that there are some Storm combo decks around, so I had an idea for my deck. Here's the list I'd like to play, but I want to know your opinion about it. Here goes:
Lands: 14
4x Seat of the Synod
4x Vault of Whispers
4x Ancient Den
2x Glimmervoid
Creatures: 30
4x Ornithopter
4x Memnite
4x Vault Skirge
4x Frogmite/Disciple of the vault/Signal pest
4x Arcbound Ravager
4x Tidehollow Sculler
4x Master of Etherium
2x Etched Champion
Other spells: 16
4x Mox Opal
4x Springleaf drum
4x Thoughtcast
4x Cranial Plating
Ok so this is my MD affinity list. The most rare inclusion there is Tidehollow Sculler, but I thought it could improve my combo matchups. I've won games to Show and Tell/Hive Mind by quitting Show and tell from his hand with Sculler, but sometimes is just a dead card in my hand. Maybe the correct number should be 3.
The other cards are Affinity staples, but I don't know if Disciple of the vault is worth having it even with ravager. So many lists play Signal pest but I just don't see the point on that card, so in the end Frogmite could be what I need, but I usually get bad starting hands with 2 lands and a lot of 2/3cc spells and I have to mulligan... Maybe my mana curve is wrong, I don't know.
So guys, what do you think about my list? What changes would help my deck to be better in general?
P.D. I'm new in MTG The source but i was visiting the website everyday to check out deck posts, so please don't be rude with me :(
And also sorry for my bad english, I'm from Spain and I've studied english for about 7 or 8 years but it's still pretty bad.
Let me say that I love your list. Why would you cut a Drum? If I were to make any changes, I would just go -1 Misstep, +1 Opal, -2 Darkslick Shores, +2 artifact lands. It does make it a bit harder to cast Tezz, but when I played my Tezz list with 4 Opal, 4 Drum and a manabase of strictly artifact lands, it still worked fairly well.
The Tidehollow Sculler is interesting, but maybe it should be a 3 of in your list. Usually, decks run 3 copies of Tezz. You absolutely must run 3-4 Etched champion, that guy is a beast!
IMO, Opal should be a 3-of, if you are not running the Disciple combo with ravager. As having 2 copies of the opal in your hand will be a waste.
-1 Tidehollow Sculler, -1 Master of Etherium, -1 Mox, -1 Drum
+1-2 Etched Champion, +3 Tezzeret, Run 3-4 Pests
As of the mana base:
3 Seat of the Synod
3 Vault of Whispers
4 Darksteel Citadel
3 Glimmervoid
Because you're not running any white spells other than Tidehollow and Tezz anyway. But, if you want to have white sources, -2 Citadels +2 Ancient Den.
Hope this helps :)
