Thus, I'm expecting not much. It should be pretty telling that it took that long until Alexis got a lead design while Ken Nagle already has multiple under his belt, despite "losing".
Shouldn't be as bad as this filler-ridden, overcosted pile of crap, though.
When are we getting the B&R announcement?
Yep probably. But with Omniscience you have to cast something to win...whether it's Burning Wish, Emrakul, Griselbrand etc.
I think Enter the Infinite will see some play but it doesn't make any of the decks it's used in any better. It's just a different card/route to victory.
I sort of like boros reckoner and immortal servitude. Reckoner doesnt have regenerate though.. Firststrike doesnt help him at all.
Immortal servitude seems like it could be very strong in long games and crappy formats.
Edit: i guess when theres only crap, you try to make the most of even the weakest cards :/
Edit2: i think ill just refer to this set as crash
New skyknight legionnaire art...yeah.....
Dimir charm will slow reanimator but gives it flexibility with all three options.
Afaik the monday after the Release. I would rather have a defined date to Check if I have to buy anything before everything is bought up by the big flippers.
Edit: stupid me, those peeps all have insider information already as we have learned from Aluren, Recruiter Promo and Karakas Promo
I was bashed for this idea the Day charm was spoilered lol. I still think killing opponents Tool creatures (aka DRS) and having a Way to bin creatures in One Card is invaluable
One thing that strikes me as weird: there are a ton of reprints in this set. I'm counting 19 reprints, functional or otherwise, and including the shocklands. That seems...abnormally high to me.
In terms of Legacy, the set does seem rather disappointing.
Well, good thing I play Standard.
Tbh if you put all cards through a fine sieve all boils Down to the same shit in every set:
Black:
- destroy a non-Black creature
- discard effect
- reanimate effect
- fatty demon for 5cc+
Blue:
- Counter
- draw Card
- tap effects
Green:
- giant growths
- natualizes
- phat beatz
Red:
- artifact removal
- burn
- goblins or giants
White:
- knights or angels
- creature Exile effects
- graveyard removal effects
- lifegain
(Just from the back of my Head. Feel free to add stuff lol)
I'm thankful for anything that doesn't obviously and uncreativly fit into anything of this. To me Think Twice isn't more exciting than the cipher draw from a Point of Creative design. Taking a Basic effect and slap a Block mechanic on it isn't fancy
To be fair, pretty much all Magic cards after a certain point are rehashes of earlier Magic cards. There are only so many non-broken effects you can have in the game.
Wow. This set is really meh. It probably doesn't help that they made Gruul really bad.
Realmwright - Scapeshift maybe?
Undercity Informer - 0 land dread return (i.e. hermit druid #2) :D
Legion Loyalist - ehh
Biovisionary - major props for whoever can get this to work
Boros Charm - Zoo or maybe BDW
Domri Rade - ehh
Duskmantle Guildmage - standard combo with exquisite blood but too slow
Duskmantle Seer - flying bob probably too slow
High Priest - certainly has potential, maybe Esper Stoneblade
Simic Charm - Shardless BUG
Burning-Tree Emissary - Aluren, maybe RUG Delver
Thespian's Stage - Urzatron or 12-16 post
Bloodrush is actually the strongest mechanic of the set imo. Especially the deathtouch viper is sweet and there are some others too.
Also, i dont understand the hate for domri rade. I hope it will be a cheap foil but i doibt it considering the omnipresence of crap in this set. Hopefully gideon takes msost of the money in the set.
Well, 6 mana cipher spells arent gonna cut it so might as well resort to bloodrush
Thrull Parasite looks like it should break something, but all the most interesting cumulative upkeeps to dodge are on expensive cards (eg Ritual of Subdual). For cheap I don't see anything more interesting than keeping Phyrexian Soulgorger sticking around, woohoo. Not sure if there are non-cumulative upkeep cards where it does anything that Vampire Hexmage doesn't.
So yeah, that leaves Gatecrash with Legion Loyalist and Boros Charm as "obviously good" cards, Thespian's Stage and Undercity Informer as "could very well break" options. Several efficient cards like Frontline Enforcer and Simic Charm that fit no obvious role, and Illusionist's Bracers doesn't do much now but may at some point provide Stoneforge decks with a combo Plan B.
I wouldn't call this set a disaster but unless we're drastically undervaluing Bloodrush it's pretty weak, yeah. On the plus side, what few good cards there are fall in the colours that need some love, instead of more blue crap.
PS: Adaptive Snapjaw's flavour text is awesome.
]High priest of penance loves the fight mechanic, which obv is in the wrong colors..
