Settle petal. No need to get so worked up over my clearly inferior opinion
1: Has the potential to win =/= will win. Huge Piledriver's win because you swarm your opponent out of the game when you have more piledrivers than they have blockers, not because they're unblockable.
2: lol @ you comparing TSH to this garbage. TSH/Scrapper wins games - or at the very least, prevents you from losing on the spot. This card is ultra situational and stinks of "win more." Also... If you're playing 4 lackey, 4 instigator, 4 of this dude, as well as the usual garbage, what spice are you hoping to put into play?
3: Playing it as a 1 of makes no sense either, as oleg said. So is the plan to then matron for it? Sick value brah.
I never said my list was the list to play, but if there was a perfect list that won everything, we wouldn't be a tier 45 deck, would we?
cheers.
I respectfully disagree with you, Stevestampoz, and for the following reasons:
1: not having to swarm, but attacking with a critical mass of creatures, of which one (preferably Piledrivers) unblockable, means potential early kills. Yes, removal takes away a blocker, but does it makes your Piledrivers unblockable? No. Unblockable means you can win. In my book that's a good thing. Also, I like to test the New Guy. Maybe you're right, maybe I'm right; who knows?
2: the comparison was about a 2/1 body during midgame, at a reasonable cmc. Now comparing him to TSH should not and can not be doen, for they have no similiar role (one removes arifacts, the other not. One makes a creature unblockable, the other not) The New Guy makes you give Jack Shit about blockers, giving your attack also an extra body, thus 'swarming' your opponent and adding extra weight to Piledriver's punch. Also, in comparison with, say, Tarfire: you can Vial The New Guy in or pay with CoS. I mean, wow.... Uncounterable! Did I mention that he also makes one of your dudes unblockable? Last time I checked Goblins has to win through combat-damage. Further testing will either debunk or prove his worthiness.
3. The New Guy as a one-of makes no sense indeed. I would recommend starting with either two or three. I know I will 😊
I'm not saying he's THAT good, nor THAT bad, I'm just saying we could at least try the Little Bugger. Testresults will tell his story, not theory-crafting.
I'm really hoping they have a transforming Goblin Planeswalker planned. That would be sweet. They don't all have to be humans.
There is also the Menace Goblin, which I hope they make something like:
Raging Lord :1::r::r:
Creature - Goblin Berserker (rare)
Goblin creatures you control are menacing as fuck have haste and menace.
2/2
That would be nice

Hi everyone! What are your thoughts on Maindeck Thalia in the current metagame? It seems as though she would buy us at least a turn versus Omnitell on average. I'm testing a lot of ideas for GP Lille, and wanted to hear your thoughts on this one.
I was thinking about Thalia and Cannonist MD. You could run a split so they're better in multiples. Trim a couple MWM/Piledriver/CT(in your case). Cannonist is of course probably the strongest hate bear against Omnitell. Thalia is better against fair decks. I think you should run a mix. That's what I'll try in my tourney this weekend and will let you all know how it goes.
I can try.
Grenzo is good in every stage of the game. I started to play grenzo over scg and i'm happy.
Vs decks with no stp, decay you can make him fat and it will be realy hard to beat. In midgame vs jund i had a lot of mana, he had 2 tarmos 5/6, we were both on topdecks i drew grenzo and made him 6/6, he just stoped tarmos and i won because of advantage.
With grenzo on the table vendilion clique doesn't work.
I like to play like this:grenzo on the table and i play ringleader, reveal thalia/magus/therapy and put it on the bottom, then activate grenzo.
Like to keep him on hand and play after terminus.
I search for him over ringleader when there is a deck with discard spells and i have not enought mana.
With warchief grenzo is 3/3 for RB.
When you has grenzo in your deck you have to be very careful with your fetchlands.
Vs mentor we need spot removal like stp. In theory pyrokinesis has to help but in practice things are different.
Hope it hepls
On Sub Scout: obviously he's got a strong ability, but it's too narrow for the standard list I think. Obviously he's pretty bad with Vial, pretty weak on the draw, weak to spot removal, and does nothing against combo aside from attack for two on turn three. There's another problem with him being that running him means you have to run 1 less piece of removal or one less goblin you might want to cheat in off Lacker effects. I'll definitely test him once he's released though. I'll start with a Vial-less list to try and maximize his effect. Something like...
4x
Lackey
Winstigators
Piledriver
Sub Scout
Matron
Ringleader
Chieftain
10 slots for removal and bombs
Some testing today now that exams are over:
-Legion Loyalist was excellent at creating surprise alpha strikes through Entreat and Young Pyro.
-I was sick of scrapper being a vanilla 2/2 for 4 and then I got wrecked by Jitte as soon as i cut it. Can we get Goblin Manic Vandal or Goblin Torch Fiend please.
-On the other hand I think you can afford to cut Stingscourger from the main or even the entire 75 with little consequence.
-Running X Chieftains and 0 Warchiefs or vice-versa is probably wrong (you want at least like a 4-1 or 3-1 split imo).
-Grenzo seems very good, it's just such a versatile card. It's good as a 2/2 for 2 on turn 4 or later as a sort of 5th Ringleader in matchups where you want CA, but when you want to immediately impact the board more it can be a 4/4 for 4 or even larger. It nonboes with whiffed Ringleaders but combos with opposing Terminus, and it can just be a bear on-curve with significant upside later.
-For testing I cut all Piledrivers for Rabblemasters and honestly I didn't notice much of a difference, which was surprising.
-Casting 'Vanilla' Earwig Squad is fine but not particularly exciting. It never came up in a situation where it was game winning or I wanted to tutor for it (against Grixis I cut all the Digs and against burn I cut the Prices & Fireblasts).
-Warren Weirding is great as a Matron bullet.

The Meta was pretty much what I expected: A bunch of Delver, Elves, and OmniTell. You'll notice the singleton disruption cards in the MD were chosen to be relevant against those decks (Chalice: Elves and Delver, 2 Pyro: Elves and Delver , 1 Cannonist: Elves and OmniTell , 1 Thalia: Delver and Omnitell ). I also started running 2 Pyro because they are just really powerful G1 against fair decks. 2 Blood Moon effects were because there is ALWAYS a Lands player in some shape or form at Minneapolis area Legacy events. ALWAYS. Even when there isn't. Krenko in the side because he is amazing against BUG but only decent against Red decks and Combo, and there is a lot of combo in Minneapolis. That's also why I'm back to running 2 Siege Gang Commanders MD. He is great against All the X/2 losers of the format and is also good against Goyf AND Combo. SGC is boss... Bosser than Krenko, Mob Boss.
R1 RUG Delver
G1 - Soooo many Goyfs and Mongeese. Just toooo much pressure from him. I held him off for a while, but Delver beats proved pivotal and I lost.
G2 I beat him down over and over again with 2 MWM tokens while I tapped down his only land. When he finally got a second or third land and could start doing things like play Goyf I had the Stingscourger to bounce it and I then had too much board for him to deal with.
G3 Game 3 was a super-close grind. We both were at 4 life when I won buy cheating in SGC two turns in a row and chumping Goyfs, then going to the dome with SGC sac ability. Won this one by the skin of my teeth.
1-0
R2 Big Red
G1 I killed him like turn 3 or 4. All he had were mountains in play. I assumed he was on a weird Burn build that kept a weird hand.
G2 was pretty much the same. He resolved a Blood Moon, then I killed him.
2-0
R3 OmniTell
G1 I saw last round that my opponent was on OmniTell. My opening hand was lame, but it had Ethersworn Cannonist, so snap keep! Well, Ethersworn Cannonist + No Clock = Losing Effort
G2 Mulled to 6. Had a Thalia. Lackey got Pyroclasmed. I couldn't put up much of a clock after that and he had two lands open when he cast SnT through Thalia. Then he cast Wish for 1 then Eladamri's Call for 1 then Emrakul for 0 and I died.
The problem with OmniTell is that they interact in the most efficient way possible (Instant Speed at Zero Cost) so you can't even really outplay them once they cast SnT. You really need 2 Pieces of hate to beat them or you need to put on a really fast clock (but you might still need disruption going that route!).
2-1
R4 12-Post
I TOLD You there is always a Lands Deck.
G1 I mulled to 5 on the play and did mostly nothing. I believe I resolved an Ethersworn Cannonist (which actually beat in for, like 8 damage, but never threatened to win the game). Then Primeval Titan hit play and I scooped em up.
G2 I sided in Chalice and Moon effects, sided out spot removal. I did not resolve a Chalice this game, but I did have 2 Aether Vials ticking up which allowed me to tick my Vials up while disrupting his manabase. He focused on developing his manabase but I has multiple wastelands and he fetched defensively, also Crop Rotationed one Trop away which I has Wasted for another Trop. Then, when he went to fetch for the 5th or 6th time that game he realized that he didn't have any more Forests or Islands to play and had burned his land drop that turn on a fetch that could not fetch. I brought the beats with Piledriver.
G3 I sided out Chalice and brought in Surgical Extraction. The plan was to Waste then Surgical his Locus. Turned out not to be necessary. I got multiple Piledrivers out and had 2 Wastelands so I never had to worry about Glacial Chasm and just brought the beats.
3-1
R5 UR Delver
G1 Pyrokinesis cleared his board and he didn't have much of a clock after that.
G2 I got hit with double Swiftspear which brought way too much pressure.
G3 My opening hand was Lacey, Vial, Chalice, Chalice, 3 Lands. Yes, please. I played T1 Vial. He played T1 Delver. I played T2 Chalice @ 1. Then I played Chalice @ 2. But I only had a Lackey and a Sharphooter. I drew 11 non-goblins and died to Delver Beats, even though Delver was LITERALLY THE ONLY SPELL HE PLAYED ALL GAME. I could have won with Pyrokinesis, Gempalm, Stingscourger, SGC, Matron and possibly Ringleader. I was fully in control the entire game but I couldn't deal with the goddamn bug. This fucking game....
3-2
No top 8 at this point
R6 Infect
G1 I accidentally drew 8. Tilted much from last round? Yes, just a bit I think. That auto-mulls me to 6 cards. Then I mull again to 5. i put some beats on my opponent, but I was just too far behind.
G2 I had a great hand with a variety of hate. I had pressure, Sharpshooter, and Magus of the Moon to turn off his Nexi. I took this one easily.
G3 I kept a greedy hand with 1 Lackey and 1 cavern of Souls. Lackey connected into SGC, but I never hit that second land to produce real R mana. I got deaded by that blue infect creature that's unblockable. Yeah. Unblockable. Cool.
3-3
Disappointing record but I thought I played very tight today, except for drawing 8 round 6. I got crazy unlucky R5 G3 drawing no Delver outs or clock that game. I really ought to have won that round. But them's the breaks. Against OmniTell I just kept having bad hands with Hate but no clocks. Maybe this is the main argument for playing Winstigator, since that increases your chances of bringing beats to coincide with the hate... It's something to think about.
EDIT*
It's also been on my mind that i'll have to start running Trinisphere to battle OmniShow. It's actually pretty easy for them to play through Cannonist because once they resolve Omni they can just cast a free Instant on your turn (Wish, DTT) to set up the win on their turn. 3Ball will keep them from playing anything on your turn after SnT, and it will probably limit them to casting one spell their next turn too. So while Cannonist only buys you one turn, 3Ball should buy you two turns which is generally enough to win the game. NOTE TO SELF: SIDE MORE TRINISPHERE
Hey Warchiefs,
played another tournament on Saturday. 2-2. Lost against Elves (2x) and won against Infect and BUG Faeries.
I am now pretty sure that there are only three difficult MUs)
OmniTell, Storm and Elves.
While I dont know if Elves will be a relevant Factor on GP Lille, I am certain that both OmniTell and Storm will be played and that I will face them at least once in 9 rounds. I want to prepare my SB accordingly before going to Lille in 2 weeks and I need your insights.
My MD is pretty much settled and I didnt change it too much in the past months:
This is where I am right now:
4 Caverns, 3 Wasteland, 2 Pendelhaven, 3 Chrome Mox
10 colorfixing Lands
4 Vial
4 Lackey
4 Winstigator
4 Piledriver
3 Chieftain
3 Warchief
4 Matron
4 Ringleader
3 Tarfire
1 Stingscourger
1 Tuktuk Scrapper
1 Krenko
1 Sharpshooter
1 Skirk Prospector
Now for the SB the situation looks different and it is wide open.
I want to Cover those three decks and probably only those three with my SB.
So my question is what are the best 15 cards against OmniTell, Storm and Elves? How would you build your SB with those three decks in mind?
I'm becoming convinced that Trinisphere is the best answer to OmniTell. Here's why: If you try to counterspell their Show and Tells you lose because they have a more diversified counterspell package and they can Brainstrom to win the counter war. So... REB and Pyroblast won't get you there. Reactive spells won't work. Once SnT resolves you are generally faced with an Omni you need to deal with. Taxing effects like Thalia and Thorn are only OK because 1) they can generally still go off that turn or next and 2) they can still cast Emrakul for 0 and a free turn. ETB effects like O-Ring, Ashen Rider, and Confusion in the Ranks are not effective because Cunning Wish is an Instant that can search up Trickbind in response, and once they have an Omni they're casting all these Instants for free. Those cards also eat up sideboard space and cannot be sided in for anything other than SnT decks. Reactive cards like KGrip are very effective at blasting Omni, but in order to cast them you need 3 mana open. Keeping that mana open means you're not putting on a clock. Outside or KGrip, other reactive cards (REB, Wear//Tear) are weak because they are going to lose to free counterspells under Omni. Proactive hate in the form of discard is OK, but, as Omni players in my meta have said, they will take getting hit with discard all day since that usually means they aren't under a clock. Plus they have BS to combat discard anyway. All that being said, there is still one card that can keep them off their game once Omni has resolved: Trinisphere. Make everything cost 3. It's going to force them to continue to play Magic with you for a turn or two. Usually when they resolve SnT they won't have 3 mana open, which will give you a turn to either 1) kill them or 2) take care of Omni. The only card I can think of that is truly better than Trinisphere against Omni would be Iona, but that is too damn narrow to sideboard. unless you really just want to crush OmniTell.
Here's what I'm thinking for your sideboard....
4 Trinisphere
4 Chalice of the Void (maybe split with Mindbreak Trap)
3 Surgical Extraction
I'm perplexed by whether to include Pyrokinesis... It is incredibly good against Elves and fair decks, but you're already rocking those Moxes. I just don't know how good Pyro would be... Maybe Sudden Demise? I always rely on Pyro+Chalice in my Elves matches.
KGrip is also still a powerful card and you still have a chance to catch Omni on its own.
Jrw1985, omni need to play 2 stifles and 2 trickbinds to counter effects of confusion in the ranks. So CitR is ok vs OMNI,S&T and slow decks like NIC FIT.
Trinisphere is ok vs OMNI and ANT but too slow. Trini vs OMNI buys you only up to 3 turns(wish-call-emrakul). For exampl OMNI can Probe you befor S&T and wish-call-emrakul-show-emrakul and you put trinisphere, very funny.... Trini do nothing vs emrakul as iona. But CitR do all you need.
I play 2 pyro in main it helps vs elves.
My sb:
3 cabal
3 relic
3 thalia
3 citr
2 magus
1 tear/wear/tuktuk
I think that it is very important for us to have spells(cabal), permanents(thalia) and S&T cards(CitR) in sb.
