I'm trying to build a SB for the grandprix ohio.
I expect a lot of dredge/43land.dec/reanimator.
And I can only give up 2 loses and still make day 2.
I sadly only have 2 byes..=/

You realize this GP is in August right? Do you not plan on playing sanctioned magic until then? I'm sure by then the Meta will change a lot...
For the meta right now, that seems about right and with those decks in mind, Leyline of the Void seems really good:wink:
Is 43 land going to be that widespread? I cant see it being as dominant as zoo or merfolk. Firestorm can be useful against 43 land as well. Turn 1 they mana bond and dump everything on the board, turn 1 you play a land with firestorm in hand. They swing in with man lands, you firestorm and nail their shit. At that point you just need to race loam if they are lucky enough to have it early, unless they play cautious and dont swing in with everything they can you should be golden at that point. How many decks have you run into that run ravenous trap?
My sideboard right now.
4 Chain of vapor
4 Ancient grudge
2 Ray of revelation
4 Unmask
1 Iona/Chosen
I might switch to this for the GP.
4 Chain of vapor
4 Unmask
4 Leyline of the void
3 Ancient grudge
Their now that's fixed.
@JoeC

U/W Dreadstill...
Survival
And at the lotus torn the guy player ultimate walkers in top8 had 3-4 in his board.
I also watched the other dredge players game to make sure he top8'd it was vs. Zoo. 4 traps out of the board..
It was the most played hate against me at the lotus torn.
@ 43land.dec
I beats zoo now that they cut PoP and it spanks Fork something fierce, no doubt in my mind it will have a showing at the GP.
@Firestorm
I'm not saying its bad, but I only ever side in 4-6 spots and firestorm will nvr make the cut over CoV,ray, grudge.
How do you even fit in that many cards?
Vs. folk I side out 4 breakthrough, side in 4 grudge.
Do you side in 8 or do you not side in grudge?
I board anywhere between 6-8 cards. Usually 2-3 firestorm, all 4 grudges and at least ray of revelation. Winning before propaganda hits is big, but you need an answer to it in my opinion, ive lost to it too many times to ignore it when I face merfolk. Im not afraid to board out a study or two, or 1 therapy against them. I intend on the game lasting a little while game 2 so I aim to stick an outlet and play the slow game. I may drop Iona from my board to run the 2nd ray since I find it extremely useful. so roughly boarding in 8 cards as an example for merfolk with my list
-1 thug, -3 breakthrough, -2 study, -1 putrid imp(yeah, firestorm replaces one and it works very well), -1 therapy. +3 firestorm, +4 Grudge, +1 Ray
That's a little rough..
I usually don't side in a ray if I won game 1 try to pull out a game from them either keeping a shaky hand with hate or mulligan to it.
I want my draws to be as consistent as possibly.
I do agree prop is usually gg. with out a ray boarded.
Iona helps this prob if you can get her in play, and before the prop..
No, you're right, Firestorm is "danger of cool things" because you're SBing out too much business and not concentrating on beating Crypt/Relic. -4xBreakthrough +4x Ancient Grudge is pretty much all I SB game 2.
Also, cutting Ichorids for Ghasts is kind of iffy, I've gone back and forth on 3xIchorid and 4xBloodghast and really can't make up my mind - I think Ichorid may be better because he's more reliable games 2/3 if you don't pull Undiscovered Paradise for Bloodghast.
Here's my shoe horned list,
4 Golgari Grave-Troll
4 Stinkweed Imp
3 Golgari Thug
4 Putrid Imp
3 Tireless Tribe
4 Breakthrough
3 Careful Study
4 Narcomoeba
4 Bloodghast
3 Ichorid
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Bridge from Below
2 Dread Return
1 Eternal Witness
1 Dakmor Salvage
4 City of Brass
4 Undiscovered Paradise
4 Cephalid Coliseum
SB
4 Unmask
4 Ancient Grudge
1 Ray of Revelation
4 Chain of Vapor
1 Tireless Tribe
1 Careful Study
I cut the 2nd Dread Return and Eternal Witness every game 2/3 for the Tribe and Study, cutting Breakthrough over Careful Study game 1 is just sub-optimal IMO, Breakthrough is too busted.
I was talking about no room for firestorm(storm) bc im running unmask.
I was trying to cut some cards to make room for both ichorid and bloodghast, I noticed you guys seem to cutting/siding breakthrough. Isn't that the most broken card in the deck to combo off and should be a 4 of? Also is 13 lands enough, because I seriously hate drawing dakmore in opening hand?
Right now I run 4 ghasts, 2 ichorids and 4 pimps, 2 tribe. I want up to 3 tribe and 1-2 more ichorids.
Im just going to run a 65 md. O_o
Eh, running 14+ lands just cuts too many spells you want to play, and in a deck that never needs to cast a spell to win it's a waste. Aiming for 2 lands to cast Ancient Grudge or 2cc creatures just shouldn't be a consideration, it's a nice bonus, but it's not necessary.
Yeah, cutting Breakthrough is bad, that card is too ridiculous game 1 - just board the Careful Study IMO.
So your saying 13 lands? That doesn't hurt the consistency?? I went back a couple of pages is there a list?? Seems like everyone posts a different list and says they haven't really tested.... Looks like the primer hasn't been edited since 12/08
14 is the safest.
I run 13 because the list is soooooooo tight.
But my list keeps getting their for me so no complaints.
Dredgers 11

Want to fit in the FKZ but still thinking.
@jimirynk
I've went with with the 0 dread return target (except for troll), and I haven't really felt the need to put back zealot ever since. Usually with an army of tokens and maybe a troll, the opponent having no more relevant cards in hand after you've ripped apart their hand, poses almost no threats. Granted it doesn't stop top deck answers from them, but you could easily finish off with a second wave of Ichorids anyways. Seeing as how you're running Iona to prevent that, I don't think its really needed anymore.
A wierd scenario I came across... yesterday I managed to win every game even after my graveyard being blasted twice with a crypt sometimes once only. However, today, I went on an unknown meta, and I can't believe the difficulty I had against such a junk psuedo elf deck that boarded in Night Soil against me. I saw the card and I was like... "you've got to be kidding me". The 3rd game dragged on to a 25 minute fight,as he had dropped another 1, so I was facing two Night Soils that's in play, and sometime during the game he had a 3rd one in his hand that I was able to see and therapy again to get rid off. I managed to destroy 1 and was searching for the 2nd ray of revelation. But i was seriously losing some serious dredging engine as well as ichorids looking for 1, all the while he is amassing tokens of his own via night soil and an army of elves.
After a game that seemed to have taken an eternity, which I was able to win via narcomoeba, putrid imp, and a 4/4 troll *sweats*... I won the match but almost lost due to that enchantment. The darkblasts I sideboarded in also had helped a great deal, at the cost of losing all 3 of my bridges though (not all at once of course).
I seriously doubt I'll ever play against that enchantment again, or maybe I might, if the person frequents with it. But I was wondering if I was playing against that card properly... I was discarding heavy dredgers in order to find my Ray of Revelations ASAP. But doing so makes him take out my dredgers as well as ichorids that may have shown up.
I understand how to pressure the opponent to blowing up his crypts, but against this enchantment... i am not sure. Was what I was doing the correct way? Or do I just go in top deck mode and avoid dredging big, and use my careful studies/breakthrough to find one? Problem was I was being put in a clock as I try to find answer for the card...
For such a scenario, was what I did the correct play (dredging between troll and darkblasts)? Do I dredge big, dredge small, or not dredge at all?
Any help would be welcome, on how to fight against the card, felt kinda embarassing I almost lost to a jank deck just because of that 1 card. Thanks, and again any advise or help would be welcome in case I fight against that card again, but I feel that the person using it will frequent with it.
It's because of those janky cards that I still run Angel of Despair or a Woodfall Primus as a Dread Return target in the main. Just last night I destroyed a Thopter Foundry, as I mulled to 4 and he managed to put the combo into play with Sword of the Meek while I was building up my dredges. And then this morning I destroyed an Ensnaring Bridge.
At the very least this DR target actually helps you get out of stick situations, whereas FKZ is now being considered as a "win more" card.
Cedric Philips topped the grandprix side even with 43.dec then starycity with belcher.
Blue isn't as strong in the meta right now, the GP is still far away so I know
it impossible to predict whats going to have the biggest showing but I guarantee a big dredge showing..
