How do you guys approach the shardless matchup?
That's a hard one because there is so much we COULD board in, but it's all marginal. For instance, you could board in Pyrokinesis, blood moon, graveyard hate, perish, pithing needle, Leyline of sanctity and chalice of the void. But then you don't have any gobbos left to actually win the game with. All those cards disrupt a portion of their game, but they are Multi-varied enough that you can never lock them out completely with board cards. So I generally just side in Pyrokinesis and Blood Moon. You can lock them out with Moon and Pyro is good against a board of x/2's or Goyf, so it addresses a lot of issues.
Sorry for the delay in approvals guys, time-zone differences and all that. Any existing member should be able to approve any new requests so please feel free.
Anyway, I propose we have Gobolord be admin, given how much work he's put in to this page, and I'm happy to either step down or just play a secondary role. Thoughts?
Yeah I'll be alright with GoboLord being the Admin.
I've been testing Grenzo lately and the card looks really good on the surface. Pretty much all of our dudes are 2 power so he could cheat a lot of stuff from the bottom of our library (Terminus) into play again. It can also help a lot to mitigate flood
We'd first need to find out if GoboLord is even interested.
I'm happy to have a FB group for networking, but would like to keep the main discussion here if possible.
I've been on a very good run in this matchup recently, running woodjt5's 7 Hastelord + 2 Krenko maindeck list with a slightly different sideboardQuote:

My sideboard is in flux, but I'm testing Boartusk Liege in answer to the Golgari Charms and Engineered Plagues.
G1: I stall/trade until I can establish a hastelord and bring on the Mob Boss.
G2-G3: I board out 4 Lackey to start with. Bring in Boartusk, Pyrokinesis, and two other relevant cards. REB/Pyroblast are strong here if you run them as they hit all of Shardless' card draw, cascade effects, cantrips, and Jace. Krenko is again the difference maker, but this time you need to be more careful of Toxic Deluge. This matchup is where I'm happiest to have the second Krenko in the deck. Keep a Matron at the ready in hand if possible.
The couple of game losses I've had have mostly been to well aimed Hymn to Tourach (both of my lands!) + Decay on my Vial that I couldn't recover from in time.
glad to have a goblin fb page :) ty for accepting me!
Applied to join
I played in a trial for the Swedish Legacy Championship today.
There were only fifteen players, so we played 4 rounds followed by a top 8.
R1 Death and Taxes 0-2
I was paired against Death and Taxes. My play was very loose and I lost 0-2.
R2 Sneak and Show 2-1
I kept a risky six G3, but one that I belive was correct. I had Duress and CotV, and a couple of decent goblins, but with Rishadan Port as my only land. I played a MWM on t2 because he hadn't played any cantrips, so I figured CotV wouldn't be too useful. A Pyroclasm cleared my board and I deployed the Chalice.
At one point I have a Chieftain and a Lackey in play. I matron for Prospector and put it in via Lackey. When my opponent cast a SnT I put Sharpshooter into play. On my turn I swing with the team, and sacrifice the one he blocks to stop lifelink, Sharpshooter deals the final damage.
R3 Elves 2-1
G3 I mulliganed to five cards on the draw.
I tarfired my opponent's t1 play, and played a CotV for 1 on t2. He started beating me down with a pair of Elvish Visionaries.
A turn or two later I got a Blood Moon into play. A Reclamation Sage got rid of the CotV, but on my turn I tarfired it and played another Chalice. The following turn I landed a Sharpshooter while he got Scavenging Ooze into play. I had two Ringleaders chump block before I drew Krenko. Sharpshooter sacrificed itself to block the Ooze, and Krenko ran away with the game.
R4 Lands 2-0
I had a t1 Aether Vial and kept beating down with Ringleaders.
G2 He went fetch, mox > loam. I played t1 Relix, exiling his Loam.
T2 I played a second Relic and an Aether Vial. I was beating down with Warchief, using Wasteland to fight his tabernacle. After a few turns I drew and played Blood Moon, and won from there.
R5 UR Omnitell 0-2
G2 I use Earwig Squad to exile three of his Omnisciences. I have lethal on board, CotV on 1 and will beat a show and telled Emrakul, having outs to beat a Griselbrand as well. He topdecked the fourth Omniscience and won.
Went 2-2 last night. Quite disappointing considering I started 2-0 :(
R1 vs Dragon Stompy
G1 he goes T1 Koth and I keep a slow start, I try to stabilize but I can't.
G2 I just play an attrition game with Vial and he never gets much traction
G3 I race a T1 stormbreath dragon on the draw through a Ratchet Bomb
R2 vs Miracles
G1 takes on forever, in which takes a long time for me to see a ringleader or a Matron. I have him at 1 with him with 3 Angels and draw matro to tarfire his face. He STPs one angel, eventually I manage to fling a goblin with Siege-Gang for the win
G2 Is much faster as he never really draws a sweeper.
R3 vs 4cc with Punishing Fire
G1 he gets active punishing fire quickly and I never get much traction
G2 on the play I land chalice on 0 to try to stop his moxen + a vial and poor draws from him i manage to take it
G3 goes really grindy, but eventually he pulls ahead with P. Fire and an Engineered Plague, as i can't tax him that much. I think I had an out but misplayed it.
R4 vs Deathblade
G1 Vial + Ports and a Siege-Gang take it.
G2 I play Vial and waste and port, and play around the idea that I could take a few hits from batterskull but my vials would eventually grind him out, as I'm tying all his mana every turn. But he has natural SoFaI to put in his upkeep
G3 He draws all the equipment plus a needle on vial :(
Shardless BUG seems to be the deck to beat after the SCG Legacy Open this weekend. In my play testing against it it seems as though Goblins only wins when Shardless doesn't draw enough threats. The matchup seems heavily in Shardless' favor.
Has anyone been testing the MU? What are the key cards to board against them? What MD build do you feel is best positioned?
My wins against Shardless lately have come largely from opponents underestimating the amount of damage Goblins can deal out of nowhere. They look at the board and feel safe swinging in with a couple Tarmagoyfs. I drop three Goblins and swing back for lethal. You may be able to play into this by feigning a weak draw and chumping until they bite and alpha strike. Notably, these are always games centered around going back and forth with creatures. An active Liliana can put the game away very quickly and cuts off this stalling tactic.
If you have a green splash Collected Company is quite good here, functioning as additional copies of Goblin Ringleader.
It has been a couple years now, but there was a time when I quite liked Price of Progress out of the side. Try to keep up on board and take your hits when you can. If the game goes long enough you can PoP them for 8 or so. But that comes at a high cost to your sideboard.
After seeing this and playing the match a few more times, I decided I wanted to check out Grenzo. He seems like an amazing late-game bomb against them and he doesn't require you to raise the curve. The color splash is also basically free. My only issue is that my list is already REAALLY stretched on room for bullets. I'm not sure how to fit Grenzo, which brings me to a question of my own...
How good has Sharpshooter been for everyone lately? He's always been an auto-include in my maindeck along with Skirk Prospector, but I find myself boarding him out in over 50% of matches. Am I a fool for dropping him? I thought about instead moving Tuktuk to the board but naturally I played a Jitte deck the very next game after trying that.
@GoblinSettler: Have you come up with any revelations on the board since we talked last? Here's my proposed list:
4 AEther Vial
1 Badlands
3 Bloodstained Mire
4 Cavern of Souls
3 Gempalm Incinerator
1 Goblin Chieftain
4 Goblin Lackey
4 Goblin Matron
1 Goblin Piledriver
4 Goblin Ringleader
1 Tuktuk Scrapper
4 Goblin Warchief
1 Grenzo, Dungeon Warden
1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Krenko, Mob Boss
2 Mogg War Marshal
2 Mountain
2 Plateau
4 Rishadan Port
1 Siege-Gang Commander
1 Skirk Prospector
1 Stingscourger
3 Tarfire
4 Wasteland
3 Wooded Foothills
Sideboard
1 Chalice of the Void
2 Containment Priest
1 Pithing Needle
3 Pyrokinesis
1 Red Elemental Blast
3 Relic of Progenitus
2 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
1 Goblin Sharpshooter
1 Wear // Tear
Nothing major. I've also been looking at how to fit in another silver bullet goblin. As I mentioned, I cut a Port for an additional Mountain as I prefer slightly more red sources. I think the easiest cut then becomes the third Port or the fourth Wasteland. Fitting in another Goblin by going back to 22 lands. This raises a question of consistency going into the GP. I think 22 mana is greedy here, but fine at a four round event. Across 15 rounds I'm not sure.
Nah, I won't drop down to 22 lands. I'm pretty sure 23 is the right number for a deck that wants to Waste and Port as much as this. So another silver bullet needs to take the place of something existing, thus my Sharpshooter demotion.
Just to be clear, I found room for the Sharpshooter in the board by dropping a Thalia. I don't like doing that, but I feel I've already added a ton of slots for Storm and Thalia is the narrowest card left.
Thoughts?
Something with multiple Siege-Gangs. Our card-advantage engine isn't even close to theirs in terms of raw power, so we have to make up for it with a lot of virtual card-advantage and hope to go wide enough around them, without over-commiting.
I could be going down the wrong path here, but 6-7 of their creatures are artifacts (4 Shardless, 2-3 Strix)
Now obviously the best laid plans of mice and men, but if you save your Tarfires for Deathrites, Tin-Streets/Scrappers for the Strix's and Agents, and Gempalms for the Goyfs (probably a bit optimistic but still), you can hope to keep up on cards with them without overboarding on removal.
For RG I would:
Sideboard out:
4 Lackey
2 Piledriver
1 Sharpshooter
Sideboard in
3 Relic
1 Siege Gang
1 Boartusk Liege
1 Rabblemaster
1 Pyrokinesis
In other words, up the grind. Drop bombs that they're forced into dealing with and then once they have, replace it with another bomb. Rinse/Repeat.
For R/B
Out
-4 Lackey
-1 Sharpshooter
-1 Driver
In
+ 3 Relic
+1 Earwig Squad
+3 Kolaghan's Command
i'm surprised nobody mentioned krenko, because he is the card that wins the game against shardless. i wouldn't hesitate playing even 3 krenkos if shardless is the deck to beat.
Mogg War Marshal tends to buy enough time to stabilize against shardless
LeoCop90, +1. Krenko can win alone the first game vs shardless.
But specifically for Shardless I can't agree more. When we had Shardless players in my area I ran a Krenko in my side as my answer to what they had. It demands Maelstrom Pulse / Toxic Deluge. I bring in two Pyrokinesis as well. The turn I win against them it's either Krenko and Friends, or double Piledriver attack, wiping their board of blockers.
As an additional note I leave the Sharpshooter in against BUG Delver and board it out against BUG Control, it is worth noting that it works like a lord when you are trading combat steps.
I've had a fair number of Shardless players scoop to a Blood Moon as well if you're board has room for it.
I feel like I would be waffling between 2 Rabblemaster on the play and none on the draw. He is a lot better when you have the initiative
