I have considered getting my goblins extended-border altered, but I don't know the right alterist and whether or not I actually want to pull the trigger. Also, I change my build frequently so I'd have to get extra things altered for when I switch stuff out

Replace one or two Mountains with Fetches so you'll be able to cast Daze. Daze+Waste+Port could be good. Let us know how it goes.
So I'm messing around with the idea of stompy SB or Main Board mechanics for Goblins. After lots of testing, I find that the mono red goblins builds tend to be better first game, but it's our second and third games that need to be strong. I think that Trinisphere, Chalice of the Void, and Ensnaring Bridge might be good sideboard cards for dealing with the problem of combo. I also am currently running mainboard Blood Moons which have been wonderful!
Has anyone else messed with a stompy-esque sideboard?
The Stompy Build is focused on landing T1 2cmc/3cmc cards (Chalice, Moon, 3Ball) which force it to run a manabase that is heavy on Sol lands and free-mana cards. It's a pretty aggressive difference in how the deck wants to start the game. Playing all the prison elements of Stompy greatly reduces your goblin count, making your Lackeys, Piledrivers and Ringleaders all worse. That's why Stompy plays bombs, because it needs to generate more value per offensive card. I think that's why you see such a difference between Vial Goblins and Stompy Goblins.

What were you toying with for your transitional sideboard? I suspect even dedicating all 15 cards won't be enough to make the deck play like Goblin Stompy. Then you're just playing a sub-par Stompy build without any actually useful Goblin sideboard cards. :frown:
I get what you both mean. The turn 1 hate plan is definitely what makes Stompy so potent, but I'm currently running 2x Ancient Tombs and 3X Blood Moon in my main board and so far it has been working well. I think it isn't unreasonable to go for a turn 2 hate card with more of the fair meta decks coming up in the format. Especially since we also run Skirk Prospector which can get us turn 2, Blood Moon or 3-ball.
My sideboard idea is

Keeping to emphasizing a mono red build of goblins. I don't want full stompy, but rather more prison I guess. I think that running Ports and Wastelands in our main makes it better to run more tax and prison cards. So I have been toying with the idea.
I just figured you guys might want to watch these.

I completely agree. Goblins is supposed to have goblins (go figure lol). But I find in the sideboard games we need to deter from the main game plan. I personally find in my testing that aside from the 4x Aether Vial, Goblins can run 3-4 non goblin type cards in the main without having too many dud reveals from Ringleader. In the matchups where extra cards go in, Ringleader is already coming out.Quote:

This is the deck i'am playing right now and it's doing verry wel for me.
I have a decent creature mu. Rug is a bit of a problem, because its so fast. After boarding i can also fight combo decks because of the chalices surgicals and earwig en leylines.

I like Blood Moon! It has been doing wonders for me in my R/W build. Same Ancient Tomb as a two of. Blood Moon has been a great help in the main games, especially when you seem to be only drawing RR spells and colorless lands.Quote:

MTGOTraders seems to be the main source these days but please let me know if there are better alternatives. I know nothing about the process thus far and just want to get the deck together so I can start dream-crushing some dailies.

Same main deck as usual with some sideboard tweaks. I still feel the main is right where i want it to be with my only thought being adding a 4th piledriver somewhere(probably won't). Sideboard still needs a little work. This my my last straw with Krosan Grip as it is just too slow and clunky. I boarded in the 2nd Krenko a few times to see if I would like it but it felt really unnecessary and will probably get cut. The 3 Thalia were solid as usual just providing that extra squeeze you need in some matchups and I think 3 is the right number. The 4th relic was awesome and probably won't go anywhere(Might have been matchup dependent but they were awesome). Probably going to shave 1 Ashen Rider as I feel 3 cards for 1.5 decks is a little much(I sort of count reanimator).
So that leaves me with 3 free slots. the artifact hate slot will end up as either an Ancient Grudge or another Hooligan. The other 2 slots I am having a more difficult time deciding. Options include Piledriver, Stingscourger, Boartusk Liege, Thalia, Mindbreak Trap, or whatever else I figure out might be good. Will update later on.
20 people for the TCG event with 17 different decks I believe so some great diversity. My rounds went as follows:
RD 1: Reanimator 2-1
RD 2: BuG Delver 2-1
RD 3: Jund 1-2
RD 4: Dredge 2-1
RD 5: 12 Post ID
QF: 12 Post 2-1
SF: UG Infect 2-0
Finals: Lands 1-2
Felt like I played pretty well overall with a few extremely complicated situations where I assume I made a few small errors although nothing that cost me the game. Was very fortunate with die rolls all day and even got to play 1st all throughout the top 8 as the 4 seed.
Some highlights of the tournament:
Had one of my Ringleaders targeted by reanimate from my opponent for the 3rd time ever which I can't even begin to describe how much I love.
Haven't beaten anybody as badly as I did the Infect guy in the semis in a long time. Sharpshooter + Prospector is GAS.
Skirk Prospector continues to be incredible and my favorite card in the deck.
Rishadan Port once again was great and should be a 4 of in all decks :)
Not drawing any of my 4 relics either game post board vs Lands was a bit of a bummer as they probably would have done some work but it is what it is.

thanks for sharing your list+thoughts.
I can highly recommend Pithing Needle as a SB card. It shuts down the only really dangerous card against SneakShow, and it also does a lot of work against Death and Taxes (in case you want to improve that MU even more).

So this isn't terrible. It's especially not bad with Warchief's ability to make it into a 1 mana 3/2 with menace and haste. It also gets around Eidolon of the Great Revel. Maybe it will find a home in Modern.
I don't think it's what we needed, but definitely not the worst goblin I have seen. Fingers crossed for some more goblins.
