[Deck] U/R Delver

I replaced my submerg with vapor snag in Sideboard, and it was a great success within my meta. (thank you hellspawn for great hint)

Funny thing happened on my local Legacy turnament. When my opponent who played reanimator countered my delver, and took it with animated dead following turn.
I vapor snag my delver, he lost one life and I got my delver back. He died from that same delver at the end.

Also I removed thunderous wraths and replaced them with chain lightning, almost every spell inside my deck is one mana cost now (price of progress is only 2 mana spell in main.)

You know that not your opponent loses that one life! The controller of the creature loses one life so in that case you!

The opponent controls the creature, so he loses one life. "owner" != "controller"

Its a miracle that this list top 8'd! :p

Temporal Mastery seems so... underwhelming.

I've been on the thunderous wrath plan a few months back and it performed well especially with the full sets of brainstorm and ponders, that list posted above took it to the next level obviously.

However I made the move when the meta was somehow adjusting to price of progress. I needed a more reliable burn spell. But now with the resurgence of BUG and the addition of Jund in the metagame, greedy manabases are everywhere. I think it is time to bring back POP. :P

Out of 125 players, seems pretty good. I actually kind of like the idea of the Mastery in here. Gets us extra attacks, which is good since we don't get there on burn alone. I may try this out next week for a change of pace, though probably not a 4-of.

Hi this is Ryan and let me start of with saying your 100% right. The main deck was amazing and i wouldnt change a thing about it, however i havent been playing the deck more than a month so sideboard choices were more what i thought i needed apposed to what the deck really needed. lets go over the side board list.

1x Bonfire of the Damned
1x Forked Bolt
3x Lava Spike
2x Smelt
3x Surgical Extraction
2x Sulfuric Vortex
2x Leyline of Sanctity
1x Force of Will

yes thats right i played a Bonefire.... Yes it was bad.... Dallas is known for being a city with many players choosing to play aggro decks (mainly goblins) all the time. while there was a lot of aggro it wasnt Goblins it was Merfolk. That spot was going to be a Pyroblast but decided to change it last minute as a little spice (even if it wasnt needed because of grim lavamancer)for goblin players i thought i would see. Not only is this bad against merfolk because of all the pump effects if it was just pyroblast it would be another bolt effect. Also seeing how i lost to sneak and show in top 8 i wish i had another counter in the match up.

The Forked bolt is just another instant burn spell i could use to remove a Bob, Goblin Lackey ect. played it and was happy with it.

The lava spikes were for jund/rug/bug/any other "fair" midrange decks where Force of will isnt as good and you want to just become a faster burn deck

Many people have asked me why not shattering spree over smelts and the reason is the instant speed. I didnt think i would play against affinity but i was sure i would play against any number of stoneforge decks (ended up playing 0). as they try to end of turn put a batterskull of the battlefield i would want to have it destroyed before they could untap/protect it and gain the life which hurts saying this is basically a controlling burn deck.

The sulfuric vortexes were also for decks with batterskull but ended up only siding it in against sneak and show in top 8 i feel like its better than i give it credit for but i really dont know.

2 leyline of Sanctity... also bad. I thought (going back to me thinking and not trying) that i had a bad mono red matchup because they were just a faster burn deck against me. I played it once. Never had leyline. Still won. Idk if it should have been more pyroblasts or Pyrostatic Pillar. I thought i wouldnt want pillar because all of my spells are also under 3 mana but as my Tendrils opponet (who was my one loss in the swis) pointed out. He cant start to combo before thats gone while he can with leyline to find chain of vapors. i would like to hear what y'all think on that.

4th force of will just for combo simple as that

This was a great tournament for this deck with all the 3 color midrange decks going around like my top 8 profile (find above) says Price of Progress is very good i even hit a jund player for 12 when he tapped his wasteland :P

However once i got to top 8, did the pictures, decided to split the money, and i realized i was qualified for the invitational ( i plan to go to Atlanta in April for it :)) my brain decided to not want to get back in focus and i lost to the eventual winner by keeping bad hands. Well thats all i got for now on the sideboard before i go i have to thank my friend Richard for letting me borrow his Volcanic islands and Brian for crunching the numbers in round 8 to make sure i could draw into top 8. If you want to ask more about my decisions let me know.

i could see having 3 price of progress being ok but probable not in main deck. The problem with it is its either really good (i priced a jund player for 12 while i took 0) or just dead against belcher/mono red ect. with my list idk where i would add it mabey in place of a lava spike saying thouse come in against the decks that price is sick against. as for daze it was pretty good all day even when i didnt have it because people would have to play around it. the only time i hated it was in top 8 when i had daze and spell pierce in hand as my opponent turn two casted show and tell after my turn one ponder, playing around daze with lotus petal. But what you going to do. Cant win them all

Hi there,

Recently with the uprising of Jund, BUG 'cascade' & other DRS/Decay.deck, I've noticed that the meta is shifting.
More and more Deathrite Shaman are being played and decks like Esperblade seem not to be as represented as they used to.

Questions:
How are you adapting your play vs DRS? I mean, OK, we can blast them asap but that means a Bolt-like less in the face of our dear opponent. And starting by a Grim Lavamancer is not what we can define by a "great T1"... So what is your best approach?
With Esper.deck slowly "disappearing" (thanks to Decay), is it still relevant to pack anti-artifacts or cards like Sulfur Elemental in our SB?

In a list with 8 miracle spells, wouldn't it make sense to play a couple of Sensey's Diving tops? Eventually cutting Preordain and fitting some PoP in there? I dunno if it is necessary to play the whole playset of Temporal Mastery?

in my oppinoin Thunderous Wrath is very good. 5 dmg hurts a lot, and it doesnt matter to have one in your opening hand. its the same as a lightning bolt, you wont use it right away anyway. first creatures, then cantrips, and then burn for the rest.

About PoP, i play 2 and i am about to add an aditional one. they are just so strong with all these nonbasics. elves starting to play lots of duals, also Jund and Bug, junk are played more frequently, so many more nonebasics. but they are quite bad vs combo, which was the only kind of deck i lost to at my last tourny. so im suggesting a couple of flusterstorms in SB.

just a couple of opinions :).

And here a question; Sulferic vortex or Smash to smithereens?... i cant decide how i want my SB. i fear lifegaining artifacts, but i also fear a CB Lock where Sulferic is pretty good.

Vortex beats lifegain artifacts as well as beating CB. The "Players cant gain life" clause

i know, thats why i mentioned it. but i think its often better to Destroy the threats rather than ignore some of their effects. + smash also deals dmg.
its really about what card is better in SB, i think that Sulfuric vortex will easily be destroyed to abrupt decays and vindicate (to mention some of the cards in those decks you would board them in, other than UW) smash can also be reused with snappy, + 3 mana for sulfuric is quite a lot. also smash destroys the biggest threat, chalice.

Decks playing Abrupt Decay won't play artifacts you care about (except for EE and Jitte 1-ofs maybe), so Vortex is the easy choice. Of course you can run both, but you have to make your mind up what cards you really hate and you actually see in your metagame.

I just wish Wizards would give us some real new toys to play with or use to improve the deck more. The meta is shifting
and it's time to bring back the old toys. I'm skeptic about 8 Miracles spells of Sergi's list, been in an awkward situation where
I had 2 Thunderous Wraths in my hand and never draw a brainstorm. I guess 1 off still works for me lol

I wouldn't take Sergi's list too seriously. He does well in his metagame, but his lists are far from good (read: consistent and effective).
