Craterhoof doesn't seem like an epic Legacy card though. I think the Hymn Wolf there would be cooler. But either way, the thing's awesome.
I have to agree there, and as amazing as Lord of Atlantis looks, he's only in a fringe archetype. I really feel like Bob is missing, ditto Deathrite, who is THE most played creature in legacy, probably deserves a spot. If this comes off as picky or anything I apologize, since I probably won't have the funds to get one of these amazing pieces :,( . Really amazing work sir.
Curious, did you deliberately put swords of revealing light in there (the three cross things around stoneforge mystic) or was that by coincidence.
That aside, that is the coolest image for a playmat ever.
I thought that was Karakas? Or is it behind the logo a bit?
I don't think SFM should ever touch the things she fetches. In her art she just kinda hangs out and wills the equipment into being. It is appropriate that the Jitte is floating. Also I think that Deathrite Shaman idea is really cool.
Those are the light-sword thingies from the SFM rocks. If you look at the art on the card, she is like Magneto-forging some weapon from two rocks.
Thanks again for all your work, Dave! I can't wait to rock these at my LGS.
Fixed that for you, the way you had it didn't read right haha.
Whew. I felt like a yugioh nerd when that was the first thing I thought of when I saw that, even though I haven't played yugo since the stone age. Thanks for having my back bro. But nah, after looking at it for a minute, it looks like a continuation from the Lightning Bolt striking the ground kinda?
EDIT- I just noticed that the Goyf looks a lot like Kami of the Hunt.
I like how you managed to incorporate Vial via the hand pouring something on the merfolk, and Show and Tell via the eye and tentacles monster.
Nice suggestion regarding Deathrite beside the Goyf.
Few more possible suggestions. Dark Confidant can fit into that space between Stoneforge and Infernal, making it seem like there is something evil counseling Bob. The merfolk could unwittingly get his thoughts seized by a faerie beside his ear. STP could probably be represented by the bearded person holding his stick beside the cat on the cliff overlooking something. Might not make much sense but I can't see putting him anywhere else.
Again, awesome job on the art.
Thatīs one heck of a playmat! Would love to play with that here in The Netherlands... awesome work!
This is incredible! Man, looking at your work gives me goosebumps all along! Can't wait for you to post your next update, but also feel free to take all the time you need because you've got such a huge amount of skills and talent, this is going to become something EPIC!
I love all the details you put in. Gives you something to look at and still discover new interactions and cards. That Aether Vial on the Lord? Awesome!
So what I would love to see is some more Elves around the Craterhoof Behemoth It's also a great way of incorporating Deathrite Shaman! And maybe the guy on Glimpse of Nature sitting underneath the Behemoth (on the right side), glancing at the horde of Elves + their stampeding Behemoth!!! ROAR!
Another thing that might be worth working in is something more explocitly "Goblins" oriented. The ones by the Charbelcher appear to be of the "Empty the Warrens" variety, which is awesome, but Goblins as a deck has been a part of legacy forever, so working on a Lackey, Piledriver or Matron would be very appropriate. Or maybe they're in there somewhere and I just missed them ;-)
Everytime I look at the mat again, I'm just in awe and amazement. This thing is incredible.
I can't wait to see the full-image final copy of this. I personally prefer it with the off-black/white theme than with full color. Love it.
Everyone's coming up with lots of ideas and requests and obviously it should be very hard to satisfy everyone but I just wanted to drop a comment as well. The Jitte looks too much at the front to me while everything else seems to be blended nicely together, maybe you could work it into the background a bit more. Other than that, great stuff!
Awesome work so far. Thanks for that.
Thanks all! Yeah some of the idea's in there are a little more subtle.. like the tentacles from show and tell. There's always a fine line from recreating very well known wotc characters and them throwing the hammer down on a mat like this. I had the deathrite shaman in a previous piece that was axed, so that guy puts a fear in me now ;)
I feel like we could keep adding tons and tons of characters to it.. but I was worried of the piece becoming overly busy.. where as right now there is enough open space to let it breathe and the composition to flow easier. all the feedback has been great though, and lets hope to all be rocking these mats very soon
I think it's safe to say that all the suggestions should be taken in the "If you were looking for something else to put in, this would be nice, but if in your artistic opinion you think it's as full as it can get then just call it done!" sense. It's really awesome as is, and if we can get playmats printed up with this version I think everyone would be incredibly happy with it.
I like how it is right now in it's inclusion of different characters and cards. It has enough at various parts of the mat to be recognizeable and enough hidden ones to keep it exciting without being too busy. If anything else IS added, I think it would be minor additions and mostly tweaking of the current piece of work. I'm in love with this  I am thinking I may have a version of it for my desktop
I agree, possibly move the jitte a bit closer to SFM and reduce the white outline to be more subtle as the background it darker, It draws attention to it.
Maybe reduce the size of craterhoof just a tad and add some small images of something?
I'm Loving the design,none-the-less.
I'll try to drop the jitte back for sure. thanks all!
Idea: if you drop the show and tell tentacles (they're friggin' awesome but you've already got Emrakul and Grizzlebees) and add a warchief (attacking the LoA, maybe?), I think most of the bases will have been covered for legacy decks. Cards I'd love to see still (but understand that there is ultimately a non-infinite amount of room):
-Deathrite
-Bob
-Stifle
-Daze
-Burning Wish
-Swords to Plowshares
-Abrupt Decay
-Arcbound Ravager
-Chalice of the Void
It speaks to the sheer variety of Legacy's card pool that there are still so many other beloved cards, though.
I also love the brainstorm dots around the Top, Hoofie (the bastard has certainly stomped me once or twice) and the Blood Moon
I think Dave's about ready to be done, which is fine, because in my opinion the piece looks fucking amazing. Here's what it's looking like with a few final minor tweaks (Jitte is a little less dark, Chalice got added, logo stands out slightly more, and site url added):

Been out for a few days but man that image looks absolutely awesome!
My wallet is ready.
Wow, this project is great. Reading all these pages at once and watching another versions of playmat was quite the adventure. My wallet is also ready. I'm happy to see Jitte getting less dark. I miss Wasteland and Hymn a little bit but I think now "less is better" and I'm also very happy there are no planeswalkers.
Hope you will send to Europe ^^
That looks amazing, definitely getting at least one.
Stunning work. Looking forward for one also.
The art looks amazing, but who is the zombie guy on the left (in front of Tendrils)? xD edit: ah, Infernal Tutor ^^
Is there any chance we could get the .psd-file, as I'd like to highlight the text with a subtle background-color, like the old TS playmat was using.
Can Force be lifted a bit, or the title dropped just a tad. cutting off some of his face doesn't sit well with me from a design aspect.
EDIT: My wallet is also ready.
