Right now I am on ScapeWish, and I have absolutely been crushing on MTGO. I am winning games that I had no business winning due to the combo element, and with ramp (aka explorer + tower), I am dropping turn 2 thragtusks.
I also have punishing built and it gives a better combo match up, but you sacrifice the ability to win when your opponent is at 36 life.
I personally like scapewish better, but I think Jund colors are where we want to be right now.
Report time !
I played in my LGS this Saturday my latest BUG Fit list.
6 rounds. Ended 4 wins / 2 losses.
Here is the list:
Lands (19)
1 Underground Sea
2 Forest
2 Island
1 Misty Rainforest
2 Tropical Island
3 Polluted Delta
4 Swamp
4 Verdant Catacombs
Creatures (10)
2 Glen Elendra Archmage
4 Baleful Strix
4 Veteran Explorer
Planeswalker (2)
1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
1 Liliana of the Veil
Artifact (1)
1 Sensei's Divining Top
Enchantment (2)
2 Pernicious Deed
Instant (16)
1 Golgari Charm
3 Abrupt Decay
4 Brainstorm
4 Cunning Wish
4 Force of Will
Sorcery (10)
1 Toxic Deluge
4 Ponder
4 Cabal Therapy
1 Maelstrom Pulse
Sideboard
1 Empty the Pits
1 Hatred
1 Consume the Meek
1 Beast Within
1 Ravenous Trap
1 Mindbreak Trap
1 Vraska, the Unseen
1 Crypt Incursion
1 Surgical Extraction
1 Flusterstorm
2 Thoughtseize
1 Duress
1 Golgari Charm
1 Abrupt Decay
So basically:
1) I cut the lone DRS for another Ponder as I anticipated somehow a less "red" meta
2) I cut a Jace for a Maelstrom Pulse, to lower the curve and to add another "catch all" answer.
Round 1. Matthieu with BUG Delver. 2/0
Won the toss.
I guess he was piloting a similar list to the winner of SCG Indy.
G1 was pretty uneventful as I was able to ramp through a vet+cabal into Jace after decaying an early pesky Delver and a Tarmo (wishing for the decay in the side). He, finally, scooped when Lili hits the board.
Side => In 2 TS + 1 Decay + 1 Fluster / Out 4x FOW.
G2, I kept a land heavy hand and faced a T1 DRS into a T2 Bob which drew him like 3 or 4 cards. I thought I was dead buried under his card advantage but he lacked a black source (and I was making sure he could not use his DRS by holding any dual & fetches in hand). Eventually he used its own wasteland on one of his tropical island to be able to cast some "black" spells. These "free" turns helped me digging out of my hole and vet+cabal ripped his hand apart. He scooped to a resolved "Empty the Pits" at the end of his turn.
Round 2. Antoine with BUG Shardless. 0/2
Won the toss.
G1, I kept a one lander opening hand with 2 ponder & 1 BS and got punished for that. I dug for a second land during the first three turns and started to crawl back into the game from there. I was at 5 when a deed cleaned a very crowed board of 2 tarmo 2 Shardless 2 DRS. Unfortunately I had only 2 turns to find an answer to a Creeping Tar Pit which I did not.
Side =>In 2 TS + 1 Duress +1 MBT / Out FOW x4
G2, was a brutal rape. T1 Vet into T2 Cabal naming Goyf and my opponent showing me a hand of 2 TS, 2 Tarmo, 2 lands, 1 Jitte. I flashbacked the therapy for TS as I wanted to resolve a Glen Elendra Archmage that I had in my opening 7. He found 2 creatures in his next two draw steps and I proceeded to draw 6 consecutive lands and died under repeated assaults of an equipped DRS. Sad life :cry:
Round 3. Nicolas with MUD Post 2/1
Lost the toss.
G1, I kept a hand heavy land and watched my opponent first three turns go like:
T1 -> Cloudpost (Turbo Eldrazy???)
T2 -> Glimmerpost -> Trini (ah...MUD...FFS)
T3 -> Vesuva copying Cloudpost + Metalworker
T4 -> Ugin. WTF ???? Okay let's move to G2...
Side => 1 Beast Within, 2 TS, 1 Duress / Out 2 Perni, 1 Golgari, 1 Glen Elendra
G2, I kept a nasty hand with 2 Fetch, Vet + Cabal, 1 Jace, 1 ponder, 1 Decay. T3 met Jace while my opponent was resolving Metalworkers. I started fatesealing him to prevent anything too big from coming down. Eventually, Vraska came down and dealt with 2 lightning greaves. Jace won.
G3, I mull to 6 for FOW seeing that my opponent was snap keeping his hand and feared a COTV@1. He proceeded with a city of traitor + a chalice @ 1 and I FOW'ed back like a champ. After this backbreaking play for him, we drew, landed, go for a few turns while a Baleful was eating his life away. Eventually I wished for 'hatred' EOT and killed him with the little bird.
Round 4. XXXX with "Show & Sneak". 0/2
Lost the toss.
This match was pretty uneventful and got me a bit on "tilt". But well, I guess it happens.
G1: I mulled to 4 and kept a hand with 2 fetches + BS + Therapy. I died T2 against a Show into Griselbrand. Oh well.
Side => In 2 TS + 1 Duress + 1 Fluster + 1 MBT / Out 3 Decay 2 Perni
G2: I kept a strong 7 (2 fetch 1 Vet 1 baleful 1 Duress 1 liliana 1 Pulse) and proceed with:
T1 duress and saw a hand with 2 petal +1 Sol land 1 Mountain +1 island 1 Sneak +1 Grisel. I took sneak.
T2 I drew ponder and played Veteran. My opponent drew, land go.
T3 I drew FOW, attacked and played Baleful->TS. My opponent drew, play sneak which met FOW...
T4 I attacked for 2 and shipped the turn back to my opponent (biggest misplay, here, as I should have played TS to take out his Grisel). My opponent drew & played S&T into Grisel.
Game over :-(
Well my opponent had god draws (without any cantrips at all) but this does not excuse the misplay.
Round 5. Rudy with Temur Delver. 2/1
Pretty stock list.
G1: He had the perfect aggro hand and mine was rather slow. T1 met a goose followed by a T2 Tarmo which met a decay. T3 Tarmo again & I played a Baleful. T4 for a bolt on Baleful & a big attack phase & I decayed again the Goyf and didn't get to see my T5.
Side => 1 Decay 2 TS 1 Duress / Out 4 FOW
G2: Vet + cabal did the job. He scooped to a resolved Jace.
G3: Uneventful as my opponent mulled to 4... And I killed him with "Empty the pit".
Round 6. Patrick with MBC. 2/1
Weirdest match of the whole day. 4 infernal contract, 4 Liliana, 3 or 4 Soulspike, 3 Demigod of Revenge. What a deck !
G1: Attrition, attrition, attrition. 10 lands each in play a while after and a board as clean as the ass of a baby. I took a hasty strike of 2 demigods and had to wish for my extirpate to avoid THAT from happening again. Eventually, I drew another wish and introduced him to the Pits while responding to liliana's +1 effect :cool:
Side => In 2 TS, 1 Duress, 1 Hatred, 1 MBT, 1 Golgari / Out 4 FOW 1 Wish 1 Liliana
G2: We had fun. I had too many. After 2 infernal contracts I'm buried by his card advantage and took a strike for 15 by the demigods. Well, I cannot say I hadn't see this coming, should have closed the deal long before...
G3: Resolved Jace. That was that.
Thanks for reading.
I count 371 green creatures with CMC=4, assuming that's what you mean, but a quick look at them doesn't bring up anything much more interesting than those two. Nylea could be worth experimenting with, maybe?
Chameleon Colossus
Creakwood Liege
Dune-Brood Nephilim
Forgotten Ancient
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Master of the Wild Hunt
Nylea, God of the Hunt
Polukranos, World Eater
Reaper of the Wilds
Spellbreaker Behemoth
It's definitely a reasonable choice, I've been told that it's almost certainly the card to Slaughter Games/Surgical Extraction against Omni-Tell. Forcing them to naturally draw into the wincon they've left in the deck, rather than being able to Wish into the best choice for any given situation, can slow them down enough to hit them with a second Slaughter/Surgical, which really slams the door.
I'm going to a tournament in two weeks, (I just wanna win that FTV:Annihilation for my collection :$), and I can't afford to buy Siege Rhinos for now, so I wanna try to build a straightforward BG Nic Fit, after watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os9Mmfsturc
Metagame is 2x Merfolk, 2x Dredge, BWtokens, Monoblack tempo, RW tempo, Burn, MonoU Delver. I'm not sure if the build will be the winning list, because white splash has nice sideboard cards, and maindeck stuff like Siege Rhino, Sigarda, maybe StoneMystic package, KotR, etc. Staying on BG shell keeps me with stuff like on linked video.
Spells which I've played in m BG shell were:
4x Cabal Therapy
4x Hymn to Tourach
4x Pernicious Deed
3x Abrupt Decay
1x Malestrom Pulse
2x Liliana of the Veil
2x Sensei's Divining Top
1x Recurring Nightmare
4x Green Sun's Zenith
Land count was 22: 1x Phyrexian Tower, 1x Volrath's Stronghold, 4x Bayou, 7x Fetchlands, 7x basic lands (4F/3S), 1x Treetop Village, 1x Wasteland.
Creatures were:
4x Veteran Explorer
1x Scavenging Ooze
1x Acidic Slime
1x Deathrite Shaman
1x Massacre Wurm
2x Thragtusk
1x Thrun, the Last Troll
1x Primeval Titan
1x Grave Titan
That was a random build, but still had a high win percentage. New deck should have same land count, but a different creature & spell count. For Dredge I'm having a 5 card slot in sideboard, and I'm safe from that deck. Merfolk are still problem. Guys piloting them are very, very skilled. Maybe I should maindeck Plagues. Haha! :D Help will be greatly appreciated.
No love for Huntmaster of the Fells??
The real question is, what do you want it to be doing or what are you missing?
Huntmaster is great for several reasons. Just like Deathrite Shaman it offers different kinds of utility for different situations. One of them being a 3 turn clock (for 4 mana). Currently i am running 2 main. So i am seeing them more often and if removed it isnt so bad.
Also 2 creatures that have been added for not to long ago are:
Courser of Kruphix
Rampaging Baloth
Baloth replacing PrimeTime. I love having Courser. Baloth is awesome to, but for a 6 drop i am not sold. Still kinda torn if i like Baloth or PrimTime. Baloth pressure on the board feels more real.
So a member wrote me some questions about my build so here it goes:
Sure! Thanks :)Quote:
First, allow me to thank you for your continual and informative writing on Junk Nic Fit. Your reports and guidance have been very helpful. Its a deck I've recently adopted (and LOVE) and been trying to get as much experience piloting. I had a few questions if you wouldn't mind.
I'm currently trying:Quote:
First, have you made any changes to your maindeck or sideboard since your last (photo) post?
7 Fetches
3 Swamp
3 Forest

1 Karakas
1 Volrath's Stronghold
2 Bayou
2 Savannah
1 Scrubland

1 DRS
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Eternal Witness
1 Thragtusk
1 Thrun, the Last Troll
1 Sigarda, Host of Herons
3 Siege Rhino
1 Reclamation Sage
3 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Abrupt Decay
1 Recurring Nightmare
3 Pernicious Deed
1 Maelstrom Pulse
3 Path to Exile
4 Cabal Therapy
4 GSZ

//BOARD
2 Toxic Deluge
1 Krosan Grip
1 Cranial Extraction
4 Thoughtseize
3 Carpet of Flowers
2 Surgical Extraction
2 Gaddock Teeg
Realistically as I learned today, never keep a hand that doesn't have black AND green mana in it. If you do, you will have a bad time unless you are lucky and draw well. I kept a few hands today hoping to draw into the right colour, and sometimes, you just get mucked. Ideally, keep a hand where you can fetch into a basic Forest and Swamp and usually, you'll end up being okay.Quote:
Second, I sometimes have great difficulty trying to figure out what hands to keep. Mulliganing with the deck has proved to be one of the harder things for me. Are there any hallmark things (besides say vet+cabal) that would lead you to keep one hand over another?
Hands you want to keep tend to have Veteran Explorers into action, Top and removal, etc. Hands you don't want to keep are those that die to STP on Vet, only bombs with no gas, no removal at all, off colour, or don't go anywhere. If the hand isn't strong or is super mana light against a deck like Delver, do not keep it. Find the superiour manabase you need and crush them.
You could play Mindbreak Trap, but you hope that discard, Surgical, and Gaddock Teeg allow you to stabilize. It's not a great matchup since you're not a blue deck, and it's unlikely you can make it much better unless you run an entirely different list or tailor 7-9 slots to combo in your board. However, you still need slots like Carpet because Miracles REQUIRES sideboard slots.Quote:
Third, how do we fight really fast combo decks? I love me some grindy magic and I'll gladly play delver matches all day, but I find I lose most to the really fast decks (the turns 1-3 guys).
I've been trying Diabolic Intent and it has been very good not only as an extra sac outlet but as a tutor for your 1-of's, or when you need a Deed, etc. I think for a larger tournament, you can try to dodge graveyard or combo and maybe get away with it, especially in a large room, but in a small local you KNOW what matchups you will see.Quote:
Lastly, my board right now is pretty set up for my LGS meta, but in a few weeks SCG is coming to town. Are there any changes you would make to the main or board in the environment of a larger tournament?
No problem! Let us know your results when you can!Quote:
Thank you again for your time and I wish you continued success!

hi guys ! i have a question ... i' ve been played nic fit in 2011 and the best card were Grave and Sun titan ... now, looking these list i 'd like know why u are not playing them anymore.
actually i m testing again fit but with the third color (white) and i have a lot of problem with jace when i don't play grave titan ...
(sorry for my english)
thanks
Is anyone running a Living Wish board ? Junk or Jund, I'm curious if the card is worth investing in.
A lot of people don't like running non-green finishers because they can't be fetched with Green Sun's Zenith. I think it's a matter of preference, if your build has another way to search them up (Living Wish, Diabolic Intent, etc) or has enough shuffle effects with Sensei's Top to find it consistently, it's way less of an issue.
I love huntmaster.. I'd thought about upping the count to 2 also.
with punishing jund.. my creature package is..
4 veteran explorer
1 thragtusk
1 scavenging ooze
1 huntmaster of the fells
1 thrun, the last troll
1 eternal witness
1 deathrite shaman
1 primetime
1 broodmate dragon
2 liliana
1 vraska
1 garruk, primal hunter
I find I almost never gsz for broodmate though.. I'd thought about maybe replacing him. I'd like it to be a beater though since most the time I am trying to just wrap games up after I've annihilated the board. I'd also thought about maybe getting rid of garruk? I love have vraska in there.. she has won me more games than she reasonably should have.
Has anyone considered warden of the first tree? We have the mana imo.
