Well, mine is 4 MD Chalice of the Void, actually.

So is the list on the first page of this thread the best build, or is there a list that's more accepted? I need what you would call a very "classic" list. No savage tech, no card-choices from left-field, just plain old aggro loam.
Pce,
--DC
something like this:
//NAME: aggroloam
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Wasteland
3 Tranquil Thicket
3 Forgotten Cave
3 Taiga
1 Forest
1 Mountain
1 Bloodstained Mire
1 Windswept Heath
1 Bayou
2 Badlands
1 Volrath's Stronghold
1 Stomping Ground
3 Countryside Crusher
4 Dark Confidant
4 Tarmogoyf
3 Terravore
4 Burning Wish
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Life from the Loam
3 Seismic Assault
4 Mox Diamond
2 Devastating Dreams
// Sideboard:
SB: 3 Krosan Grip
SB: 4 Extirpate
SB: 3 Engineered Explosives
SB: 1 Life from the Loam
SB: 1 Pyroclasm
SB: 1 Devastating Dreams
SB: 1 Chainer's Edict
SB: 1 Shattering Spree
This is indeed a nearly standard list, although i prefer to play Terminate over 1 Assault and 1 Confidant, that would be a meta dependend choice though.
The Stomping Ground is a bit weird, Taiga is just better:confused:
Please cut the Extirpate.
If you expect combo at the tournament Thorn of Amethyst is a musthave.
What do you think of Maelstrom Pulse in the Wishboard?
The only thing I can see the Stomping Grounds is used for is avoiding Extirpate on a Wasted Taiga. That seems unnecessary, though. Good idea if you fear cards already handled by Chalice at one, otherwise I see no point other than not owning a 4th Taiga, but if you have 3 Taiga, 2x Badlands, 4x Goyf and a Bayou among the other pricey cards in the list...You can get a 4th.
Thank you for the list. I'll probably be back to this thread after I get it put together and play some.

I believe that sideboard should have Reverent Silence and the Maindeck should have 2 Engineered Explosives, in place of 2 of these (Bob, Bob, Terravore, Crusher, Seismic Assault). Those SB Extirpates look suspicious to me, as they are bad as GY hate can be in a deck sporting Chalices.
DC is mostly correct about Stomping Grounds. (In fact, Bayou stinks as you tend to starv for R)
Other than that the stock list is pretty much what posted.
Reverent silence should definetly be in the board. It's the card I wish the most for.
What are everyone's thoughts of running Maelstrom Pulse x2 MD and 1 SB inplace of the E-Explosives?
I myself am currently running the following list:
4 Countryside Crusher
4 Dark Confidant
4 Tarmagoyf
2 Terrevore
2 Seismic Assault
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Mox Diamond
4 Burning Wish
2 Devastating Dreams
3 Life from the Loam
2 Maelstrom Pulse
3 Forgotten Cave
3 Tranquil Ticket
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Taiga
1 Bayou
1 Badlands
2 Mountain
2 Forest
1 Swamp
1 Volrath's Stronghold
3 Wasteland
SB
1 Chainer's Edict
1 Devastating Dreams
1 Life from the Loam
1 Maelstrom Pulse
1 Shattering Spree
1 Pyroclasm
2 Krosan Grip
4 Thorn of Amethyst
2 Tormod's Crypt
I have to agree with Solaran, Choke isn't that good against Blue. I won two games with UGr CBTop straight through it last tournament. The point is, it really doesn't do anything. Not only does it not come down until turn 3 (usually), FoW and Submerge still work under it, and Daze can actually be used to reuse the Islands.
Also, basic Forest was Savage tech to use Top to find EE@3
I was never a big fan of choke outside of Eva Green. With 4 chalice and 4 shushers between the board and main I don't really think that blue should be a big problem. It's the combo part that I want to focus on (natural order, painter etc...).
That same tournament it actually won me 2 game against landstill and merfolk.
After a wasteland war he is left with 1 island and plays top.
I play choke, he scoops.
Against merfolk, i have tarmogoyf and he has two smaller folks.
When i play choke it is over.
Against Countertop decks it isn't extremely good, but not bad either.
But it is really helping for some of the harder MU.
Especially MUC is one of our worsed nightmares, Choke shines here.
It is also great against Merfolk who became extremely popular last tournaments.
It's not that good against merfolk, because they play 4 aether vial and 8 non-islands. It might be good in certain situations against merfolk, but that's about it. To be honest, I wouldn't side in choke against merfolk, burning wish into dreams should be more than enough for them.
I donīt really like to give my opponnent CA by playing Dreams.
Choke can be countered, without it.
I boarded like this on the draw:
- 4 Chalice of the Void
- 2 Devastating Dreams
+ 3 Choke
+ 3 Volcanic Fallout
I believe Chokes are much better against them then the Chalice..
Pyroclasm Effects suck vs. Merfolk. 3-damage spells really shine in this mu. And Choke vs Vial is meh...
I'm currently testing 2-3 Maelstrom Pulse + 1 in the sb. I'll let you guys know how it feels when I'm done.
cheers
Hi,
The lists I see here lately all seem to include Dark Confidant. Does everybody agree with it's inclusion? I've never used it in the list because I would be drawing enough cards with Loam and cycling lands. I never felt like I needed an extra draw engine. I've been doing fine without him but maybe I should try running him.
Just wanted to get some feedback beforehand. I just don't seem to find enough time to play magic anymore...
Thanks in advance,
Robrecht
Dark confidant + countryside crusher makes you less relying on the graveyard. That's the main argument I guess.
All I know is, any game I've played where Dark Confidant hit the table turn one, and my opponent didn't have an answer soon enough, I won. The card advantage is well worth the risk of damage.
I play 3, haven't really needed to play 4 due to the cycle lands, but like mentioned it helps be less reliant on the graveyard which is great in games 2/3.
If you are running black, there is no reason not to play him. He is less mana-intensive than a loam engine, doesn't run the risk of dredging away what you want to draw and comes online faster.
It isn't a question of whether you have enough draw in my opinion, it is a question of whether moar is better. Confidant comes down on the first turn often if a chalice is not the optimal play or is not drawn and many opponents will not enjoy the idea of killing him because there will be an expected ten or so other creatures that will have a direct face on their being smashed.
I actually like confidants because they are often a lightning rod for early removal that a goyf or early crusher would end up eating instead. It is a mixed blessing at times, but as a whole, I am a lot happier smashing face with a 4/5 goyf or a constantly growing crusher than having a Bob in many matches since with strongholds, the inevitable cycle engine and crusher filtering my draws more often than not, a confidant can end up in play a relatively short time after one has been sent plowin' or whatever.
