Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
The new Gideon is terrible in this deck.
The deck is already great against creature decks. It's +1 ability is somewhat a liability because the deck runs minimum to no creatures (Painter/Stone combo has been replaced with RIP/Helm combo). This means that Gideon becomes a magnet to all your opponent's removal.
It would have been better if it does anything relevant against combo or control. This is why Elspeth 1.0 is better as not only she can provide card advantage (token), she can also protect herself and apply pressure against slower decks. New Gideon can't do this both (his +1 ability is slow against combo and control).
The +15 is nice but this is Legacy. Do you think he'll get there?

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
hmm you might be right. I was thinking more of a beater after pumping him and clearing the board with WOG or Terminus. I crave for a good offensive force which works under Humility (testing of Batterskull in progress)

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I was thinking about playing Quinn at an upcoming tournament. Is that even a good idea? Does anybody have a list that they have been working on?

I took this list for a tournament two weeks ago.
3x Arid Mesa
3x Scrying Sheets
17x Snow-Covered Plains
2x Batterskull
4x Enlightened Tutor
2x Helm of Obedience
2x Humility
2x Oblivion Ring
4x Orim's Chant
3x Path to Exile
2x Runed Halo
4x Sensei's Divining Top
1x Story Circle
4x Swords to Plowshares
2x Wrath of God
1x Pithing Needle
2x Rest in Peace
4x Leyline of Sanctity
2x Pulse of the Fields
2x Aura of Silence
2x Elspeth, Knight-Errant
4x Mindbreak Trap
Rest in Peace
Was expecting more aggro meta hence the creaturehate decklist but got paired against combos instead
Few things:
- no point of running Orims Chants unless you also run Isochron Scepters
- Rest in Peace is awesome - kills Dredge, Goyfs, Mongoooses, makes Shamans vanillas...and a lot more
- fetches do help
- I would cut one Helm and probably Story Circle for Scepters
Overall - It's a shame but I really think UW or UWG way is much more viable. Energy Field along with Rest in Peace keeps you safe for a while. UWG version (more like Enchantress) gets you also Solitary Confinement which can be fueled with Enchantress Presences and Argothians.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Is anybody still running this? I'd like to follow results but the deck has become so varied I don't know what to look for.
The deck got the name from snow Plains and Scrying Sheets, but nobody uses that as the deck title, just the wincon.
Used to be the deck ran a Painter-Stone win, and I could search for that and get a few Imperial Recruiter decks. But now some decks will go Stoneforge-Batterskull or RiP-Helm to win, and I'm unable to find anything on TC Decks or anywhere else.
Could be that nobody is just playing, so my original questions stands.

Sadly I've been waiting for someone to pick this deck back up and have this thread up and running again but alas that hasnt happened. I hope that when the summer hits and my schedule opens up a little, I will be able to put some much needed time into looking at what this deck needs/can use from what has most recently come out. I will be sure to put any updates to my old this up as soon as I have them. I'm sorry that doesn't help you at all right now but it's what I can do to make sure that this deck doesn't completely disappear forever.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Schulz good to hear from you I heard you walked away from the game.
This is the list I am running currently, though I am looking to update.
14 Snow-Covered Plains
4 Scrying Sheets
2 Kor Haven
1 Karakas
3 Rest in Peace
2 Helm of Obedience
4 Stoneforge Mystic
2 Batterskull
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Scroll Rack
4 Enlightened Tutor
2 Land Tax
2 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
1 Gideon Jura
1 Decree of Justice
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Oblivion Ring
2 Terminus
1 Wrath of God
1 Humility
3 Argivian Find
2 Pulse of the Fields
2 Runed Halo
1 Pithing Needle
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Aura of Silence
1 Powder Keg
1 Nevermore
1 Sacred Ground
1 Circle of Protection: Red
1 Story Circle
I want to use RIP/Helm but Stoneforge offers much needed shuffling and having that threat is helpful at times. Right now I feel like the deck is stretched too far into too many areas and is becoming just a bad UW Miracles.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Hello all, first post :)
I have a Quinn deck that's been doing pretty well in our local legacy meta. It seems like every time I play a different deck I feel like Quinn would have dealt with the game better, so I think I'm going to tune it. Here's my current list:
18 Snow-Covered Plains
4 Scrying Sheets
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Isochron Scepter
1 Pithing Needle
3 Wrath of God
2 Helm of Obedience
2 Rest in Peace
2 Gideon Jura
2 Runed Halo
1 Story Circle
3 Enlightened Tutor
3 Oblivion Ring
3 Silence
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Humility
1 Ghostly Prison
4 Orim's Chant
Sideboard:
3 Abeyance
3 Leyline of Sanctity
3 Pulse of the Fields
2 Tormod's Crypt
3 Disenchant
1 Powder Keg
I think I'll run elspeths instead of gideons when I get them - I may also try out batterskull in that slot. A moat would be nice as well :). Other than that, it seems to cause problems for many decks, and I'm pleased with the way it is performing. I took it to a 3-1 win last time I played it at our local legacy night (although that included a bye)

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I'm not recommending this list yet for anyone but here's an update report, having tested this list a bit and gotten some successes with it at the local shops.
16 Snow-Covered Plains
4 Scrying Sheets
2 Kor Haven
1 Karakas
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Scroll Rack
1 Enlightened Tutor
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Terminus
2 Oblivion Ring
1 Wing Shards
2 Humility
3 Rest in Peace
2 Helm of Obedience
3 Abeyance
4 Stoneforge Mystic
2 Batterskull
3 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
SB:
2 Enlightened Tutor
2 Decree of Justice
2 Pithing Needle
1 Manriki-Gusari
1 Rule of Law
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Powder Keg
1 Aura of Silence
1 Sacred Ground
1 Karmic Justice
1 Circle of Protection: Red
1 Nevermore
It has a pretty good matchup against most of the tempo and fair decks, the prison-ish decks and a not-atrocious SnT matchup. Its biggest struggle is with the durdle-grind decks like Esper Blade, Jund, and Shardless Bug, tending to get card-advantaged out. Jace is a problem.
Still I've had a few good performances with it so far so some others might be interested in testing.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Very cool list. It seems to me that the matchups you've described as tough are all against decks with fragile manabases. Have you considered adding Wasteland plus Crucible? Possibly even Rishadan Port?
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Hm. Not but that is a thought. I could cut Kor Havens for Wastelands and squeeze a Crucible or two in the main. Or maybe one main one side. One problem is that there's nothing else for the deck to do with Crucible though.
Now if they printed a white Blood Moon...
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I would imagine a tiny red splash would be possible, but Moon shuts down your best CA engine. Ill do some digging on magiccards.info and see if I can find more ideas for ya.

Ya, I'm still waiting for that white Blood Moon too.
As for the Jace issue, Pithing Needles do work. They're also good in locking down Deathrites (which this deck can easily deal with), Lilliana and other nuisances.
I was thinking of Suppression Field until I realized that it also hits Scrying Sheets (from Parfait)

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Yeah O-Rings would be maindeck Pithing Needles if not for SnT. Maybe they should be anyway, dunno.

Maybe take a cue from Shops in Vintage and find a way to play Buried Ruin. It's an amazing card advantage engine paired with Crucible if you play enough artifacts. Of course, the deck would have to be changed quite a bit to take advantage of that interaction.
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Crucible and Buried Ruin seem a little bad when you're running 3 Rest in Peace, and RiP is half of a wincon.
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
This is a fair point.
Man why is it that white is the color of rule-setting and it's the only one that doesn't have a way to punish nonbasics. I mean aside from the fact that blue gets everything and other colors get to dabble occasionally.
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
There's always Conversion to punish ?
-
Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Splash red perhaps?
You get Blood Moon, Burning Wish package and Skred?
But doing so, you go back to the dilemma of having your Scrying Sheets useless.

I have thought about a red splash lately and it doesn't seem that bad with Chained to the Rocks being printed and I already run 3 fetches and 2 are Arid Mesa which find Snow-covered Mountains plus Scrying Sheets can flip them. I have also cut back to 3 Scrying Sheets and have not missed the fourth one yet. On the topic of new cards the new Elspeth seems like a good fit. She can make 3 guys, she also has a pseudo wrath which deals with SNT creatures if they pass the turn and batterskulls which can be a problem. Her ultimate makes Humility great.
