I would cut the Thorn of Amethysts for two extra Blood Moon and two extra lands, to start. (Perhaps Sphere of Resistance might be better all around even without my suggestion.) 8 Moons. maximizes your chances of getting a T1 Blood Moon, which is far better than a T1 Thorn against the field, even if T! thorn is more likely. . You have 8 ways to get rid of redundant copies, and if there are redundancies you are probably winning any how. Pl
I would also remove the Sulfur Elementals for Goblin Assault, in the interest of resiliency. Elemental might not get countered, but it gets blocked, pathed, and plowed all day.
Jitte might be better then Grafted Wargear, as connecting with it gives you the ability to actually gain card advantage.
wargear looks interesting as an alternative to SofnI or LnS.
I am curious though, if your creatures stolen with wargear on it by say sower does unattaching it still kill it, cause i would think it makes the controller sacrifice, not wargears owner who can't sacrifice the creature as they don't control it. what would happen in that situation?
I'd drop 2 thorns for 2 more rakdos dragons. You have 4 trinisphere thats more than enough for stopping most spells you'll want stopped. (true when played early it does just sit there as a 3/3 but its worth it over thorn)
@ozymandias
goblin assaults a bad idea if he keeps the tauren mauler in, as you have to always attack with all goblins you control. Not that you don't want to attack with mauler but more than once i've seen a situation where mauler would of been better off if i didn't have to attack for a turn based on situation.
allright, I don't like Goblin Assault, becuase it has antisynergy with Mauler, and Mauler is the better of the 2 imo
and yeah... I also thought about it a bit, and think that 4 RPDs are needed, because it's still our best finisher, and we don't want to lose against Moat...
...but instead of cutting 2 Thorns, I will go +2 RPD, -1 Wargear, -1 Sulfur
-1 Sulfur because it's the weakest creature in the deck, and -1 Wargear because I don't want it in multiples... I just think it's the best option to maintain the aggro plan with the missing Slogger... ...red just doesn't have enough good creatures =( (too bad that there is no red timehifted version of Glowrider)
I like the Thorns... I know that they are inferior to CotV and Trinisphere, but its very nice to have the option of 18 gamescrewing cards on firstturn IMO and additionally Mauler
@Shanghi Knights
If your Grafted Wargear somehow ends up on an opponent's creature and it then becomes unattached from that creature, you won't be able to sacrifice that creature because you don't control it.

i like those builds but what about this:
Lands:
4x City of Traitors
4x Ancient Tomb
10x Mountains
Creatures:
4x Magus of the Moon
4x Gathan Raiders
4x Rakdos Pit Dragon
4x Arc-Slogger
4x Simian Spirit Guide
2x Taurean Mauler
Artifacts:
Sword of Fire and Ice
Sword of Light and Shadow
2x Umezawa's Jitte
4x Chrome Mox
4x Chailce of the Void
Sorcery:
4x Seething Song
Enchantments:
4x Blood Moon
Side Board:
2x Pithing Needle
2x Pyrokinesis
2x Price of Progress
2x Firespout
2x Runeflare Trap
2x Ravenous Trap
2x Relic of Progenitus
Gaea's Blessing
I would like some more ideas on the build. It would greatly be appreciated for your ides.
...looks like a standard list, without Trinisphere but more equipment =P
...but your sideboard looks really strange
a few points to your board:
-no 3Sphere in the Board
-PoP hurts yourself
-Firespout kills your own creatures, play more Pyrokinesis instead of this
-Runeflare Trap WTF, against what? If you want to hose U / Control, play Boil
-Crypt > Relic because of CotV 1

Quick report from today's Grand Prix Trial in Uppsala.
Metagame (little less than 40 players): I see a fuckton of Enchantress and Stax, a solid amount of Ichorid and Loam-decks backed by various graveyard-based combos, a few Belchers, and a bunch of pretty multicolour good-stuff type decks. This makes me lean towards sticking with the old Dragon Stompy instead of switching to Dredge, seeing as DS can be outfitted to at least put up a fight against Argivia.
4 Tomb
4 City
11 Mountain -> been happy with 11 for a while, though I often side out one if I also cut on some expensive stuff (Slogger/Akroma/equipment)
4 Mox
4 Chalice
4 Song
4 SSG
4 Raiders
4 Dragon
4 Magus
3 Slogger -> again, been playing 3 for a while. In today's meta his mana cost has grown heavier, and his size less impressive
3 Mauler
1 Akroma
2 Trinisphere -> not good enough to risk drawing multiples; good enough to main some
3 Blood Moon
1 SoLS -> was undecided between this and SoFI, went with SoLS due to the relative lack of Merfolk and Goblins and the sighting of a couple of Tombstalkers. I still think that Jitte's best raison d'être in this deck is Legend-kill other Jittes.
Side:
2 Anarchy -> f. yeah
4 Crypt
1 Moon
2 Trinisphere
1 Akroma
2 Needle
3 Pyrokinesis -> skimping on the aggro hate due to the perceived meta. Naturally this will bite me in the ass later.
R1: Jonathan with Bant
G1: He opens with Plains, Top. I have a turn one Moon and for the rest of the game all he has are Tops, blue fetches, and frowns.
Board: +1 Moon +1 Akroma -2 Trinisphere
G2: Forest, Hierarch; Plains, Rhox War Monk; Island, Sower of Temptation stealing my Dragon. Jeez.
More board: +3 Pyro -1 Moon -1 Akroma -1 SoLS. I guess that, if he plays Progenitus, he probably boarded out the slow NO, and I turn out to be correct.
G3: Chalice@1 leaves him with just a few Tarmogoyfs quite smaller than 5/5.
1-0 matches, 2-1 games
R2: Daniel with Goblins
G1: I stop Lackey, but my clock isn't great especially as I have a Slogger stuck in hand. Piledriver + Warchief outrace me, forcing me to leave one of two Lackeys unblocked, which drops SGC for the win.
Board: +3 Pyro -3 Moon +2 Needle -2 Trini
G2: Turn 1 Lackey, turn 1 Pit-Dragon. Turn 2 Lightning Crafter, turn 2 Pyrokinesis, swing for a fuckton. Turn 3+ more Goblins, turn 3+ make the Dragon fly and finish the job.
G3: Turn 1 Lackey, turn 1 Arc-Slogger... MINDBREAK TRAP. Ok, that was awesome (I'll later learn that he had MD Earwig Squads and other anti-combo stuff to board out). Lackey drops Ringleader and the game slips beyond my grasp a few turns later despite my Raiders' effort.
1-1 matches, 3-3 games
R3: Jonas with Entomb-Hulk
Before the match he tells me that he knows what I am playing and that he's not worried, since I should be a good matchup. Alright...
G1: He Ponders off a Sea, then my Chalice@1 resolves and he never resolves another spell for the rest of the game; I still see the Entomb he discards, though.
Board: +4 Crypt +2 Trinisphere -1 Akroma -3 Slogger -1 SoLS -1 Mountain. I decline bringing Needle in, though it was almost surely correct, because I'm not familiar enough with the Hulk combos to name the right card (i.e. is it still Feeder?) and my red count is hurting already as well.
G2: He plays Swamp and Thoughtseizes me, taking Chalice and leaving me with a bunch of fast guys which kill him quickly as he fails to draw any other land or a Reanimate to match his turn 2 Entomb.
2-1 / 5-3
R4: with Enchantress
G1: I mull to four and keep a double Mauler hand, which eventually get supported by Chalice@1 (didn't have the mana for @2) and Blood Moon disabling Sanctum. Meanwhile he plays a lot of pretty but irrelevant enchantments, and when a Sigil of the Empty Throne lands and starts making Angels, my Maulers are big enough to force them to chump-block. When his engine stutters for a turn, he's immediately dead.
Board: +2 Anarchy +2 Needle +1 Akroma -2 Trini -3 Moon
G2: He mulls to five and pretty much never really does anything to stop me.
3-1 / 7-3
R5: Tobias with Ichorid
G1: Chalice at one (Draw, discard Imp). Mountain, Mox, Dragon (Dredge, land, go). Mountain, Song, Song, RUMBLE IN FOR TWENTY-SIX (Jaw hits the floor).
Board: +4 Crypt +3 Pyro +2 Trini -3 Moon -1 Akroma -1 Slogger -3 Mauler -1 Mountain
G2: I mull to four and keep Crypt, Mox, SSG, Dragon. He Unmasks me taking the Crypt, then hardcasts a pair of Narcomoebas ands starts beating down while looking for dredgers. I draw mana almost immediately and drop the Dragon which kills him before he can even get Threshold for his Coliseums.
4-1 / 9-3
R6: Erik with Merfolk
We draw in the Top 8, but still play for fun.
G1: I curve out quite well with Raiders, Raiders, Dragon, Sword and trample (not literally) all over his barely-pumped guys.
G2: He tries to play Canadian-style, aggressively countering my drops while beating with 1/1s and 2/1s, but this means he doesn't have a third FoW for a very good Pyrokinesis. What is left of his hand isn't enough to deal with a simple Mauler + Raiders.
'5-1' / '11-3'
Top 8: Me, the Goblins player from R2, two Aggro Loam, two Merfolk, Faeries, and a rogue U/R list with Magus of the Moon.
T8: Mikael with 4C Aggro Loam
Mikael and I are the two who care the most about the byes, so naturally we get paired against each other. Frowntown.
G1: I mulligan three weak hands and keep Mountain x2, SSG, Dragon. I topdeck a Tomb and cast Dragon while he drops Chalice@0 and start Loaming, then I topdeck and promptly drop a Chalice@2. This not only saves me from an impending DDreams, but buys enough time for the Dragon to finish the job.
Board: -2 Trini -3 Chalice -1 ?, probably a dude +4 Crypts +2 Needle. Still not sure I want all four Crypts, though (a problem I wouldn't have with Relics, but Relics too often cost me a turn which is much worse than an occasionally weak draw)
G2: If I made any serious mistake in this match, it must have been keeping this hand: Mountain, Tomb, Mox, Magus, Raiders, Raiders, Slogger. His Mox Diamond pretty much negates my Magus and his fatties negate my dudes; I eventually draw into a Dragon, but before I can break the ground stall he uses Knight to fetch Skarrg, the Rage Pits and let his Zillion/Zillion Countryside Crusher deal me the fatal blow.
G3: I mull to 5 and lose to a Devastating Dreams with Crusher on the table.
I'm not too annoyed, however, in part because Mikael had already been kicked out in the semis in a previous Trial (while this is the first I play in) and in part because there are two more Trials in Stockholm next week. I'll let you know how they go.
I tried a bit more with Sloggerless-DS and came to the conlusion that I need more against Aggro/Zoo bla... I don't like the Sulfur's that much because they feel somewhat random, and do nothing except suprise blocking and killing, or stuff like that, and thats not enough for 3 mana IMO... every creature in this deck says I Win, or I am fat... Sulfur does neither >.>
My actual testing list is this:
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
8 Snow Covered Mountain
4 Chrome Mox
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Trinisphere
3 Powder Keg
3 Grafted Wargear
2 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Blood Moon
4 Rakdos Pit Dragon
4 Gathan Raiders
4 Magus of the Moon
4 Taurean Mauler
2 Sulfur Elemental
////
4 Pithing Needle
4 Boil
4 Pyrokinesis
3 Tormod's Crypt
...maybe I need to add a 9th Mountain, but dunno (testing will show)
I would be happy about suggestions =P

@Nihil Credo: is playing Akroma worth it right now? it seems like slogger # 4 might be better. Otherwise I like your list. Good report, Dragon Stompy reports are always a good read. Nice Dragon kill getting in for 26.
Lodestone Golem seems tailor made for this deck. A lock piece and 5 power creature in one package.
'Grats on doing well with a deck most people have written off. Double 'grats on beating Enchantress, which is like Dragon Stompy's worst matchup.
I've always wanted to do the turn two Dragon kill, but I've never pulled it off. Awesome.
How is Akroma's :3: to morph and :3::r::r::r: to flip not "too heavy" but the fourth Slogger's :3::r::r: too heavy? And what bad or iffy matchups does Akroma improve? I'd rather have the fourth Slogger.
@Akroma: Her biggest advantage is that she can get out of your hand for three colourless mana: you're not going to get denied Hellbent because of an Akroma, whereas Arc-Slogger does it all the damn time and I'm pretty fucking sick of it. Killing creatures with Slogger has become really rare except against Merfolk and Goblins (whose sort-of resurgence is pretty much all keeping me from cutting him further), and Akroma's pro-blue makes her really good in one of those MU as well. Basically, I play her because she's an awesome sink for mana floods that doesn't punish me for drawing her at the wrong time, and because postboard I can invest a ton of resources into her and trust her to go the distance despite all the Hydroblasts, Paths, Sowers, or Rings that people love to board against DS.
I don't think the deck really wants reach or, more precisely, there isn't any burn over 1cc good enough to sacrifice precious threat density for it. The ability to occasionally machine-gun weenies, however, is valuable, and I've been auditioning for that role various support guys (some of them quite weird).
Lodestone Golem doesn't get me all that excited, being colourless and with an ability that doesn't really synergise with the rest of our disruption ("Eh, I didn't know what to use all this red mana for anyway"). I think I'd rather cast a Mauler most of the time, but I'll still test the dude out and hope I eat my words.
Just had an awesome day! went to the knightware tournament and split first place!!!
Here's a quick tournie report. It's gonna sound rediculously unbelievable, but that's just how the day was. COMPLETELY EPIC!!!
It was 6 rounds of swiss with 50 players.
Round 1: Affinity
I remember losing to affinity in a previous deck, so this was a bit of sweet revenge.
G1 : rakdos for 16
G2: shattering spree for 4 followed by jitte and rakdos
1-0
2-0
Round 2: Dream Halls
I seriously thought i was just gonna get supper powned, but lucked out (in what would be the first of many occasions)
G1: i magus, and chip away with jitte, until he pulls show and tell. Fortunately, he only puts in progenitus, but i put in slogger. He miscalculates how much damage i can throw down, but since my magus was keeping his manabase down, he probably figured he needed to attack anyways. I do lethal damage with more creatures.
G2: he fetches away to 17 and shows and tells. Again, dream halls is death, but he just reveals progenitus. i reveal akroma. swing for 9 next two turns.
2-0
4-0
Round 3: Mono Red Goblins
First, I had great hands, second, I'm fortunate he went mono red
G1: chalice @ 1, raiders and rakdos beats ftw!
G2: lackey, stingscourger stinscourger, attacks with like 10 gobs powered out by lacky and warren instigator.
G3: Chalice @1 with a bit of helpp in him not finding a third land until I was throwing a tarean mauler, gathan raider, rakdos onslaught backed up with prokinesis.
3-0
6-1
Round 4: UBR Fearies
Even though this isnt conventional fearies colors, this dude was legit. went undefeated in swiss.
G1: trinisphere, chalice at 1, chalice at 2, land 5 trns in a row. he gets tombstalker. by the time i draw answers, they're forced.
G2: a lot of trading of moons, maguses, firespouts, explosives, etc. ultimately lead to him attritioning out and me going coast to coast with SSG.
G3: good initial control aand firespouting. gets bitterblossum down and backs it up with jitte. so sad....
3-1
7-3
Round 5: Zoo
I had haunting memories of my poor zoo showing in a tournament not too long ago, so i needed to redeem myself. :D
G1: he mulls a few times unfortuntely, so his attrition was already dwindling. blood moon and chalice at 1 held on to give him the beats.
G2: again, magus and chalice at 1 hose him as he can't find a quasali. eventually i get slogs and his few creatures he had couldn't keep up. I did get very lucky that he misplayed tho. he took extra life from a silvan library and tried to PtE w/ chalice out.
4-1
9-3
Round 6: Aggro-Loam
This guy could have been a "dream breaker" buy trying to beat me, and push me out of t8, but instead he was very cool about it. we drew and went to t8. more lux :D
4-1-1draw
9-3-2?
TOP 8
First Round: Enchantress
Literally the whole time b4 the match, I was thinking, I'm going to get raped. no doubt. enchantress is a 90/10 mu for them most of the time.
G1: early magus actually denies his white sources! trinisphere slows him down enough for mauler and rakdos to give im to much to think about. My early clock only allowed hum to throw down one E presence before he had to lay down a confinment. He draws horribly though, and has to sac it away. eventually, he can't find anything to stop the fatty's so i steal a G1.
G2: he gets some early control going. I got moon out with a mauler. He eventually takes control and gets pretty much a complete lock.I had chalice at 1, trinisphere some fat but useless maulers, and a face down creature in play. He begins to swing with 2 angels., I unmorph and block 1. next time he swings with 3 angels and i block one. By now, he's already scooped out all but 5 cards in his deck. He replenishes, dumping like 50 cards on the field. I literally sit back and say "heat of the cards!" then I drew an anarchy ftw...I was lucky he had no karmic justice.
TOP 4
Round 2: Rematch with UBR fearies
I thought I'd be in for a loss, but more luck was on my side.
G1: First turn mahus resolves. He only throws down a fetch. i get a pair of raiders, so that i still get beaters even when he firespouts. he spouts and kills a magus and one unmorphable gathan. i throw down ann SSG and bring him down to 2 with raiders. he says he has a soln for raiders, but not ssg. more ape ftw!
G2: counter and disruption hurt me pretty badly. followed up by well placed EE's and two bitterblossums served gg for me.
G3: I have to mull. First turn mauler gets countered. I think i lost this, but noticed that he eventually passes his 3rd turn with only two duels. he never ran into any fetches. i draw a magus that gets countered. still no land for him. I draw a blood moon. he's got nothing. we pass a lot, but i eventually get jitte and some creautres that can withstand firspout, while he just has mountains. Super lux for me right there.
TOP 2
Championship Round: Eva Green
We split the top 2 prizes (2 underround seas and 2 tropical islands.), but we play the last game somewhere else to see who gets the better conditioned ones.
G1: nightwalk beats with early discard. topped it off with tombstalker after my guys were traded with the nightwalks.
G2: i chalice and beat him with raiders and hellbent dragon. he gets tombstalker too late to get in the way.
G3: t1 thoughtseize and shade. he takes out my mox to deny my a first turn blood moon/magus. he gets a jitte online, and i can't recover. He wins the better conditioned duals.
So technically, I would've placed second. But I couldn't be anymore satisfied with how the night went. It was a day of crazy plays in the dreamhalls, enchantress, and fearies mu's. plus i got my revenge on zoo, affinity, and gobos. Truly an awesome day held together with crazy luck!
If any of u guys were wondering, here's my decklist (pretty much the same):
4 magus
4 gathan raiders
4 ssg
3 pit dragon
3 slogs (luv these)
3 mauler (turned out to be the enchantress mu MVP)
1 akroma (my trust in this card continues to grow every tournie)
4 chrome mox
4 CotV
4 seething song
3 trinisphere
3 blood moon
2 jitte
10 mountain
4 ancient tomb
4 city of traitors
SB:
3 pyrokinesis
2 volcanic fallout
2 pithing needle
3 tormod's crypt
2 ANARCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 akroma
2 shattering spree
Overall, in this tournament, the hardships came from lots of creature removal (as expected). I realize that those nightwalks are extremely difficult to deal with! you could basically trade your huge creatres for his 2/3 and give him life in the meantime. idk what to do about that backed up with stalkers and jitte! eva green w/ basics is a nightmare! with that said, had a lot of fun and hope to see more DS sucess in the future.
Is it really that difficult for Wizards to print some half way decent fat red creatures at 3cc, 4cc or 5cc so that we can finally get rid of Arc Slogger and Akroma?
This deck is so close to being broken, thanks to the power of Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Chalice of the Void and Trinisphere.
But it's kind of ridiculous how every single set, Wizards prints absurdly good fat just for some other color instead, and keeps neglecting red.
Every set I keep waiting for some good red fat to be printed at 3cc-5cc, and every set I'm disappointed.
This set however might be an exception and does seem to provide a few contenders at least meriting mention...
Do you guys think these have any potential here...
Crusher Zendikon 2R
Enchantment - Aura Common
Enchant land
Enchanted land is a 4/2 red Beast creature with trample. It’s still a land.
When enchanted land is put into a graveyard, return that card to its owner’s hand.
The positives are that it's a 4/2 trampler for 2R mana (the perfect cc), that keeps recurring every time it dies (at the cost of a land) which this deck sometimes ends up with an excess of (Ancient Tomb for example is a land that you're hesistant to tap for mana repeatedly, and City of Traitors is a land that you many times don't mind losing). The negative is that like most every other threat in this deck, it still can't face off against Tarmogoyf.
Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs 3RR
Legendary Creature - Ogre Warrior Rare
Whenever a creature under an opponent's control attacks you, put a 3/3 red Ogre creature token onto the battlefield unless that creature's controller pays 3.
5/4
Lodestone Golem also does seem like it has potential.
I was very interested in Crusher Zendikon as well until I realised that when it dies, you get back the land and not the Zendikon, i.e. it's not Genju of the Spires. Frowntown.
@mercs: Good report and performance! Though I must ask what you are smoking for playing only 3 Pit-Dragons; I can't understand that one at all, it's by far the best threat in the deck.
Crap, I misread that as well. I was really hoping that it was essentially a Genju of Spires reprint that isn't effected by either Trinisphere or Chalice for 1, rather than the 3cc 4/2 trampler with an upkeep cost of one, that it ended up being.
What's wrong with slogger except for the fact that it nerfs agro? (okay sometime's it clogs up your hand... stuff hapens, you have 4 mox, 4 raiders and 4 seething songs... play it right and you should get it out of your hand...). And akroma isn't that bad, it's just a meta call.
It only has 4 power, it has no evasion or trample so it can be chump blocked easily. It's no longer very good at killing opposing creatures. For a 5 mana investment, I would expect something better.
Usually you spend 6 mana and exile 10 cards off of your library only to have it trade with a 2cc Tarmogoyf.
It's really no where near as good at racing as a 5cc creature should be...
Compare it to a card like...
Baneslayer Angel
Creature - Angel 5/5, 3WW
Flying, first strike, lifelink, protection from Demons and from Dragons
Hell I would even settle for a red Battlegrace Angel (with lifelink replaced with a more red ability like haste+pump or double strike and Angel changed to Dragon)...
I think Kazuul is damn sexy against aggro and could make it in over one or two Arc-Sloggers.
Kazuul Warlord? You think that he's better because it has synergy with Taurean Mauler or what? I'm confused how that's better than machine gunning monsters for :r:.
...he obviously meant this Kazuul...
Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs 3RR
Legendary Creature - Ogre Warrior
Whenever a creature under an opponent's control attacks you, put a 3/3 red Ogre creature token onto the battlefield unless that creature's controller pays 3.
5/4
YawG
No, I think he meant this new one from Worldwake:
Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs 3RR
Legendary Creature - Ogre Warrior Rare
Whenever a creature under an opponent's control attacks you, put a 3/3 red Ogre creature token onto the battlefield unless that creature's controller pays 3.
5/4
And yeah, it looks pretty sexy. I definately will try this guy as a 1 or 2 of in the Slogger Slot (due to the fact that it's legendary). The one round faster clock and the ability seems worth testing, but we'll see how good it actually works.
I'm warming up to that guy as well. On the first read I thought "eh, who cares what happens if they attack us", but it actually happens a lot against Merfolk, Dredge, Zoo, and random aggro, and a 3/3 is just big enough to make them think twice about it.
Against everything else, though, the +1/-1 is not even remotely as nice as the ability to dome for 8, kill utility dudes or (reluctantly) trade with 5/6 Tarmogoyfs. And even against tribal, shooting down Jitte carriers is pretty important. I think Kazuul won't go beyond a 1-of, but he has good chances of getting there.
Kazuul is pretty nutty against Dredge now that I think about it. It completely shuts off their FKZ strategy if that's what their going for and can block Ichorids allllllll dayyyyyy lonnnnnng.
What I was smoking was what won me the underground sea and tropical island! hahaha jk
I played 3 RPD cuz I have an extremely removal heavy meta. when i pay out lot for an accelerated rpd drop, it usually amounted to a card disadvantage and playing it a turn or two slow made it just as vulnerable and too late to make a legitimate threat. I sided them out at times b/c of this. I only really like them against combo, dredge, and NO bant. Against zoo, burn, gobo's (conditionally), and eva green, there value is downsized dramatically.
In terms of what everyone else was talking about, I agree on how awesome kazuul is! but where to put him??? I already don't like the fact that I'm moving taurean mauler b/c he was so vital in beating enchantress and others. I am testing lodestone in that spot right now (proxy) and it's working great. But that only leaves RPD, raiders, and slogger spots. Are you guys suggesting to take out the slogs for kazuul?!?
I'm with Credo, RPD is by far the strongest threat in the deck, And as the deck kinda works on card disadvantage -a la the hellbent mechanic, I really do not understand your gripes either.. I also could not disagree with you more on the MU analysis in regards to RPD, eva green in particular, Dragon rapes that deck... twice on sundays type of thing... they give you hellbent, and double strike with a pump eats all their dudes, their only answer is to hope a first turn hymn can make you discard it, or hit one of maybe three snuff outs. Finally Slogger is probably the weakest card in the deck, he will absolutely straight lose games for you be being unplayable, and you are left with a bunch of 'turned-off' dragons and raiders... remember that guy who won the 475+ bazaar tourney a few months back, yeah it was a DS list with absolutely no Sloggers, and people are finally realizing he really isn't quite up to snuff anymore, maybe four, five years ago, it was broken, but now, well I cut mine out entirely almost a year ago.
Hey guys, sorry for the confusion. I'm not making the case that my list is better than anybodies. I split first in a tournie and posted my list up w/my report. that is all.
For me, in my meta, i feel it's better for me to go 3 dragons, not saying u guys have to. I just do cuz in my meta, there's a bunch of snuffs, terminates, meastroms, putrefy, firespout, pte, nightwak's, etc.
If you guys wanna cut slogs, that's fine by me. this forum is filled with that debate. we don't need tot get into it. some ppl are keeping them, some aren't.
The real question is what slot the new cards are gonna be filled in? if slogs is out for you guys, that's an easy choice of kazuul. u guys gonna try out lodestone golem? and how many kazuul is everyone thinking about for MD?
Hey man, I'm the guy with Eva Green from that tournament. I'm just posting to tell you that the Rakdos Pit Dragon was by far the scariest threat to me. You wouldn't have won the second game if RPD was any other threat. I would have had enough time to bring out my other Tombstalker, or just not chump and let the initial TS or Nighthawk carry a Jitte. I don't know about the other matchups, but against me the double strike and firebreathing was just killer.Quote:

In things like tempo fearies, burn, can thresh, ru ninjas, and zoo, I almost always side out all three b/c ppl don't waste counters on them. they just bolt, incinerate, snuff, and firespout them out. Right now, I'm trying to strengthen the can thresh mu cuz that's the most consistent thing giving me probs (that also consistently appears near the top). That rbu fearies was tough too. I feel i got pretty lucky against him.
The problem with Kazuul is that except for Dredge (Which is a good matchup for us anyway, btw.), he's good against exactly all the same things Arc-Slogger is good against, only he's good against them defensively and Slogger's good against them offensively. So no, Kazuul isn't better than Arc-Slogger.
He's definitely better than Mauler once in play, but you're talking about killing the deck's consistency even more by having 5-6 5-drops in a deck that occasionally loses because it can't get a 5-drop out of its hand.
Dragon Stompy plays Questions, not Answers. Arc Slogger is a Question to the opponent, do they have any response? If not, you (the opponent) will die sooner. Kazuul is an answer to aggro decks, and Dragon Stompy must be THE aggro deck.
Kazuul looks like a good card if goblins sees play in your meta, it's also pretty decent against mer-people
Well if you really want to play kazuul, and lodestone and wonder which creature you want to cut, than you just go like this:
Against what does kazuul/lodestone improve your matchup?
What card sucks in that matchup?
And voila you know what to replace.
If it make's 1 matchup better and 1 matchup worse (more than that it would help in that other matchup) than when you would leave the original card in, than the card (lodesotne/kazuul) is a meta call and should not be considered a maindeck staple.
For me, lodestone isn't that great, and for the people that don't agree:
It make's arc-slogger cost 6 mana (no we don't want to replace arc slogger with lodestone....) and RPD would cost 5 mana, and would suffer from the same problem slogger has FYI: some players seem to get suck with it in their hand causing them to lose hellbent (imho bad excuse to cut slogger since you have 12 ways to get him out of your hand within the first 3 turns..., but RPD at 5CC doesn't sound that great either)
And seething song would definitely suck even more (and it was the weakest card in the deck since it's a dead draw more than any other card in the deck)
Yea, I was worrying about the antisynergy too. I think the most enticeing thing about lodestone is the t1/2 lodestone combo. when people get auto win hands, it's hard not to wanna use it. In playtesting against zoo, they hate that hand the most because by the time they can pte, they already took 15.
I think llodestone is best in mudd stompy cuz the combo of 1st turn lodestone and 2nd turn razormane is devestaing too. it'll be interesting to see how worldwake pans out, b/c it is doing a lot more for ds tcompared to other sets. Best thing about worldwake tho, is that it's superpowering 43 land, which is our best mu. :P
I'm gunna agree with Taco on this one. Kazuul in most cases may force some incarnation of a stand off more often than give you leverage with an army of 3/3s. Not that thats bad against all aggro situations listed before.
About Lodestone...
Lodestone golem (is like a juggernaut 2.0 (or more)). I think he has potential in DS, 5/3 that slows a lot of decks down and makes any response to our artifact support cost 1 more to play. Yes it Slows RPD, SLogger, Mauler, and etc. on our own side but you still have a 5/3 that can be supported/ draw your opponents permanent hate spells. Thus another means of porbability that when you follow it up with the regular creatures there chances of survival will go up.
ummm hello :]
I am playing 2 jittes MD but..What about Basilisk Collar instead/plus ofJitte or Wargear? lifelink is always good and with deathtouch they will think twice before attacking with their goyfs? what do you guys think?
good card, but the AW is so ugly, that I don't play it =P
allright... tested a bit more, and came to the conclusion that Wargear sucks...
Wargear is good wth Assault, but Assault is bad with Mauler... and Mauler is imo > Assault
