Hm, Geist does seem good. How many copies do you think should be tested, 2/3/4?

Personally, I still use kavu in the deck because of what it does with invigorate and berserk.
Geist can really add a new flavor to our deck. Being it HASTE is a big plus factor and its undying is superb. Its like two for one card (that is if their removal is not STP like one)
:D
Dryad militant, is not that strong in our format. EXCEPT if your opponent loves to USE instant or sorcery spell. an example of it is a combo deck that depends on Past in Flames, Ill Gotten Gains, etc.
How about, that 1 cc with ZERO to scavenge? I think we can also abuse that here. additional pump for skarggan? silhana? not bad.
Unfortunately, I had a change of heart. Instead of picking this deck for yesterday's big legacy event, I opt to go with TES and landed 5th after the day.
:D
*cheers
@KBH
Uhmmm... Maybe you're right. On paper it seems weak. I'll play test it in the next days to come and will let you know guys of what my conclusion.
@bone
it depends on how you feel towards adding geist in the deck. As i see it, I'll only add up to 2, replacing the slot for tarmo (from chupaza's original list of creatures).
:-)
And by the way, last night we had a single round robin race to three wins playtest with my three high school buddies. They brought the following UW miracle, RUG and egg-combo sunrise thingy (kind of a modern combo deck with some legacy cards in it to make it move more faster).
And I brought my brewed torpor-stumpy and here's the list.
4 bayou
3 verdant catacomb
3 wooded foothills
1 forest
1 arbor dryad
4 torpor orb
4 phyrexian dreadnaught
4 dark confidant
4 elvish spirit guide
4 noble heirarch
4 rogue elephant
2 harvest wurm
4 scryb ranger
2 worldly tutor
1 sylvan library
4 berserk
4 invigorate
4 vines of vastwood
3 rancor
I did not have any SB yet, I was just testing the waters for its main deck.
As against the UW miracle, multiple terminus plus STP really hurt me. as you can see, all of my guys didn't have shroud, except to vastwood who was not in my hand when he exiled, through STP, my 24/12 berserked-dreadnaught. I won once, lost thrice.
As against the egg combo, there's really no interaction between us, its either I kill him or he goes off. And for the record, two out of three games, I almost have it. I never won a game. Lost thrice. Combo in whatever form is really a nemesis for us berserk users.
As against RUG, a resolved naught is really a game breaking for this one. Other than that, its like an uphill battle with his. I won thrice, lost twice.
What's the verdict on the new Giant Growth? I'll still personally stick with beta, but I like it.
I don't feel that Geist add something new other than a RUG needing to kill it with 2 spells instead of 1, if that's the case. RUG already tends to counter our creature mass by blocking, and kill our creatures when we are pumping them. End up with a 3/2 when people cancel your combo by killing your creature isn't exactly great, and besides, most other decks will remove it with StP or PtE.
On the other hand, I don't agree that Dryad doesn't add something new to the deck. 2/1 for :g: is better than what we have already, being able to counter Loam, Dredge, Snapcaster-trick and delaying a lot of other graveyard tricks makes it a MUST PLAY in the worst case. It looks better than likely any other 1cc creature we run atm, maybe even Nettle Sentinel.

The way the GG is presented, similarly looks like

:D
I still go with that big black rat eating human flesh/ bones.
Totally agree with everything here said on Dryad. Disruptive 2/1 for one mana is something this deck has been missing. Thumbs up that these powerful hybrid one-drops appear on Gatecrash as well! There's still Gruul and Simic coming up :)
But when comparing Geist and Kavu, StP argument here isn't valid, right? Same thing happens no matter which you're playing. Point here is what happens outside exiling removal. Two for one against RUG should be enough, it's a deck without any CA. Add card disadvantage from FoW to same mixture and you should be winning already with our threat density. Kavu is just trampling Grizzly without Invigorate and I just hate that. Is Geist enough to compensate lack of good old combo... I really don't know. At least on paper haste with undying seems really good. I can think dozens of positions where either of Geists abilities would be good and having them both on same dude just rocks. I'll just have to give it a try!
So next Sunday I'll be doing some testing at LGS with following list:
4 Dryad Militant
4 Nettle Sentinel
4 Skarrgan Pit-Skulk
4 Silhana Ledgewalker
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Berserk
4 Invigorate
4 Rancor
4 Seal of Strength
3 Giant Growth
2 Vines of Vastwood
16 Forest
SB: TBA /w usual stuff anyways.
... with 3 slots left. Here I could use some help.
I would love to add another 3x one-drops, but constantly keep pondering another possibilities. Did some testing with Vault Skirge and while being strictly better than Scryb Sprites, 1/1 body still seems underwhelming especially after printing Dryad. Skyshroud Elite or Hidden Gibbons? Both feel bit too conditional. Maybe some random awesomeness as one-ofs, such as [cards]Xantid Swarm[cards]? Probably should just play 3x Jungle Lion, have 15 one drops with power 2 and stop thinking about things too cute.
Is Root Maze any good with all fetches running around? I have no experience playing it but somehow I have gut feeling that it should be added MD.
Vines also could be something else. Kinda like it as 2 of, it's just so flexible being protection, pump and even hoser (you can target opponents dudes as well!) when needed. I would like to test out Dismember here, but Geist and Dryad is enough testing for this time. Wanted to bring this out once again since I have lost too many games after opponent resolved Biggie after my rush, which eventually stalled me out of the game.
But when running Invigorate without Kavu, isn't going the infect route just better? Invigorate+infect is pretty insane after all, and with infect, invigorate+berserk goes from being good to being instant-win.
So Im leaning to splash white so I can include mother of runes to protect my berserked creature.
My list is
4 Mother of Runes
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Scryb Sprites
4 Seal of strength
3 Invigorate
3 Rancor
4 Berserk
4 Sylvan Library
4 Silhanna ledgewalker
3 Vexing shusher
4 Groundbreaker
4 Dryad Arbor
3 Windswept Heath
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Savannah
5 Forests
Sideboard
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Mindbreak Trap
4 Tormod's Crypt
4 Krosan Grip
I know it's 61 cards, just one for luck whilst I test it out.
OK the Mothers protect creatures, the Vexing Shushers allow Berserks to be cast. Ledgewalkers are essential as always, and rancors are good on scryb sprites. The Sylvan librarys are for card draw with fetchlands for shuffles, and the groundbreakers are with free invigorates and seals already on the table to reduce the mana to play and pump them up.
Chalice of the Void and Mindbreak Traps are for storm combo!!!! and Krosan Grips and Tormod's Crypts speak for themselves.
Comments?
When playing Berserk Stompy I realised weaknesses were lack of card draw and having Berserked creatures removed! I hope the splash will help.
Just came home from a 60 plus players tournament, and i scrubbed out with our deck going 2-3 then dropped.
My MUs were:
mbc 1-2
rug 2-1
tez control 2-0
rug 1-2
mbc 0-2
then went to play standard at the near by shop in which i landed in a heart breaking 9th place using gw aggro.
dryad militant was superb in RUG matches. it really slowed their nimbles and dwarfed a little their goyfs..
@orcanmail, our deck is design to do it all now. I think, if you really would like to protect your creatures, as well as you pump spells, splash it with B. discard thier threats with duress, kozilek or thoughtseize. :D just my two cents
As i see it, if you intend to pair our deck with U, berserk-infect is the best build to use.
Im actually in the process of adding orim's chant or silence plus gitaxian probes in our deck as its protection before i go off.
but unfortunately, i was not able to tweak my deck into that build yesterday.
Here’s what I was saying days ago, splashing W in our deck
16 lands
3 windswept heath
3 (other G fetches)
2 savannah
8 forest
8
4 silence
4 gitaxian probe
20
1 arbor dryad
3 silhana ledgewalker
4 dryad militant
4 jungle lion
4 nettle sentinel
4 skyshroud elite
16
4 berserk
4 might of old krosa
4 seal of strength
4 invigorate
What you think guys?
Lmao, I like the Skyshroud Elite, It's ever so slightly meta dependant, but it's better than quite a few of our 1 m 2/x options.
I'm actually in favor of running normal damage Blue/Green berserk. I have a completed list that I'll post up after FNM tonight (if I think to, I'm very forgetful haha). The short version: With regular damage, you have a high chance of your opponent helping you out (fetch lands), and you have a better game against decks that are aiming to use their health (TES/ANT). Smacking TES/ANT for 15 on turn 2 actually gives you a decent shot. Also, we pick up Delver and Revenge of the Hunter (very usable at 4 of with brainstorm, I've found).
As I said, will post up later.
Oh wow, no one has touched this thread, sorry in advance for the double post.
Below is what I'm going to say is the quintessential version of Berserk Stompy, there are a few cards that may be swappable, which I will mention later.
[Blue Berserk]
Mana:
4x Tropical Island
8x Green/Blue Fetch
3x Forest
1x Island
Creatures:
4x Noble Hierarch
4x Dryad Militant
4x Delver of Secrets
4x Silhana Ledgewalker
4x Strangleroot Geist
Blue Stuff:
4x Brainstorm
4x Daze
Buffs:
4x Berserk
4x Might of Old Krosa
4x Invigorate
4x Revenge of the Hunted
--
Possible swaps in the above:
Switching Militant for Snapcaster Mage. This isn't a direct trade, but if you want Snappy, Militant needs to leave.
Daze for a protection buff--such as Ranger's Guile or Vines of Vastwood. Relevant trade, most of the spells your looking to daze you can side step with hexproof anyway.
Playing with the # of Revenge, and the mana base. Both of these can change, probably for the better.
With the above out on the internet, I can also mention I'll be permanently off stompy now. A friend of mine is building it for his girlfriend, and I'd rather help out (by trading off my berserks for relevant things) someone who loves the archtype as much as I used to rather than let it sit in my binder.
Perhaps we'll see some crazy stuff in new sets that will bring this deck back. Here's hoping guys!
U for protection and delver purposes, uhmmm..
would you consider these:

and

and maybe this as well:

brainstorm is a good card with Revenge of the Hunted.
happy holidays to all zerk users btw!
cheers!
The first time I laid out Blue Berserk, I made considerations for stalker/probe.
Stalker: We have ledgewalker, and she's actually under powered because she isn't fast enough for the clock we need to aim for.
Probe: Although it DOES give you information, it doesn't actually give you any USEFUL information. If you probe EOT and plan to swing next turn, you'll find out if they have a counterspell or a swords. If they DO and you don't have a response to it, your probably going to lose. If they DON'T then your in the clear. The problem is, delaying your swing by a turn isn't going to win you the game, it will probably make you lose. Stompy folds to disruption and targeted creature kill. We don't have some form of "big" win, we only have our single combo.
Veil is interesting, but does nothing against path/innocent blood. Nor does it help with having your hand torn apart by cabal therapy.
