The one on eBay is gone since yesterday.

Quite ridiculous what's happening on Candelabra right now.
Seems it's only a matter of time before it hits 200$, which will make it prohibitely expensive for anybody really wanting to play the deck. But do people really want to play this? At 200$ for a playset someone could think: "Why not give this a try and it may turn out to be a good investment, too.." At 6-800$, people simply won't bother. All that speculation isn't too good for the advancement of this deck.

Sure thing, but the main culprit aren't players here, but wizards. Card is on reserve list and there is only 31 000 (at max) copies around. That means that Candelabra is 10x times more rare than any dual land. It's even more rare than Tabernacle

Glad I didn't sell my foil merchant scroll too...

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Candelabra just hit the minimum of 175 EUR on magiccardmarket.eu. I don't really know if they sell for that price, but i'm actually pretty glad i bought my playset quite a while ago.
I guess that's the impact of Spiral taking down Edison.

When I looked 2 days ago, there was only 1 left at €150, so I guess that one sold....

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Well, the recent uprise pretty much rules out any deck with Candelabra for me. I'm totally not buying into a playset of Tabernacles (or Imperial Recruiters), I'd rather get some 'generic' FBB USeas for comparable cost.
Much like KindGrind said, I wouldn't bother with these.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Tabernacle, much like Moat, is often used as a one-of, as some mentioned earlier. Shelling out 200$ for one or the other, while certainly not extremely pleasing, opens door to new archetypes and drastically improve your decks. Comparing Candelabra and Recruiter is right, though. Anyways.
Random thought: with MUD decks gaining in popularity, I wouldn't be surprised to see City of Traitors / Ancient Tombs rise even more. It will also be interesting to see how Null Rod behaves in the upcoming months. SB cards never get too expensive though, although I was quite surprised to see Peacekeeper last time I checked.

This. I remember buying a Peacekeeper from the local store during Christmas season for $1 (The store only had one in the jank bin). Apparently theyre $8-10 now. Just wow!

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Would the price of the card have changed much if Hatfield had gotten 2nd? It's funny that the price of the card might only have exploded because of some hardcore lucksacking on a Ponder shuffle.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Its all SCG's fault. A deck does well in a tournament, they jack up the price of the engine cards of that deck. Then they buy whatever cheap is left out there so they can sell them for their price to make profit. Then local stores just go along with the hype because they know players who need those cards will pay for that much.
Jolly good way to make money!

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
This is neither here nor there, but I'm putting on my tim foil hat and imagining a fix in some major tournament where all the top 8 decks have cards like Candelabra and Peacekeeper; cards that are older and rare and are cheap now, but with the decks doing well, SCG jacks the prices up and people pay. I love conspiracy theories.

I'm pretty sure that the price would have still risen. Plenty of newer players (especially SCG circuit players) tend to fixate on the new thing. Even coming in 2nd shows it's still a contender and worth looking into. Chris Cannon's Kuldotha Red (Standard) deck came in 2nd when it debuted, but received most of the attention that day.
Candelabra was already on it's way up, it just needed a big tourny top 8 to force the price spike.

Not SCG, but the 'collectors' who forced WotC to keep the reserve list. Bet your ass that if there wasn't a certainty that some cards won't be reprinted, we wouldn't see some of the aberrations.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
The best thing people could do is not buy Candelabra at so much money. Some lucky people out there are going to make a buck on this hype

Magic players are stupid. That is why the colours green, red, and white exist.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
I thought they existed for Xantid Swarm, Burning Wish, and Orim's Chant?

Those are all really black cards lets be honest with ourselves. Much like Goyf is actually blue and all bad blue and black cards are actually green.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
The Candelabra thing is hilarious, due to the ironic violation of status quo. Usually, it's
1. Rogue deck makes Top something due to fantastic design and playskill.
2. Rogue deck becomes emulated by 300 people who lack both of the above.
Alix, however, managed to change status quo to:
1. See 1.
2. "Nya Nya! I can play this deck and youuuu caaan't."
Next time somebody's about to Top 1 with an older card that's hovering in the $30 range, please let me know so I can purchase about 50 of them. Thx.
