Oh, well then, Pyrokinesis or Pryoclasm is typically run and it comes down to a meta or preference call. Pryokinesis is better against Breakfast, Survival, and big people aggro, while Pyroclasm is better against Empty the Warrens and little people aggro.
I played a tournament with this. My list was the standard:
4 Slogger
4 Magus
4 Mauler
4 RPD
4 Raiders
4 Spirit Guide
4 Seething Song
2 Jitte
4 Chrome Mox
4 Blood Moon
4 Chalice
10 Mountain
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City
Sb
4 Trini
3 Pyrokinesis
3 Tormod's Crypt
4 Peedle
1 Jitte
I played:
1) Stiflenaught/Paintercombo 2-1. First game was actually quite exciting and I outraced his Grindstone by dealing 16 or so with the Dragon. Second game was turn 2 Naught. Third game was a beating, Peedling his Top when he needed lands.
2) Ichorid 2-0. First game I was faster. Second game I got down 2 Trini's and three Crypts.. gg?
3) My teammate with TES (my entire team was at table 1 and 2) and we drew. Which sucks in a 6 round tournament, but we're stupid, so go figure
4) Moonstax 2-0. His Ensnaring Bridge was a pain but he wasn't fast enough to empty his hand so I beat him to death, two games in a row. Ensnaring Bridge is about the only card you don't want to see when playing vs. Moonstax.
So now I was in a position that any win would bring me into the top 8. That's also when my deck started to fail. I went from 0 Mulligans the entire tournament, to 7 in five games! This deck just fails randomly, that sucks
Terranova/Loam 1-2
Second game I had to mull to 4 (think no-mana hands). Lost that one because I drew nothing
Third game I drew 10 lands out of my deck, and guess what, nothing else
Ichord 0-2
First game I keep a decent hand after mulligan to 6, but continue to draw into 7 lands in a row, gg (yes I did pile shuffle 3 times and yes I did shuffle in 17 different ways).
Game 2, I keep a hand with Magus and turn 1 Trini.
I then draw: Trini, Trini, Land, Land, Chalice, and my one Magus obviously does not outrace his DDD.
Gaaahhhhhh frustrating. Seriously, frustrating. The Top 8 had 3 Ichorid's, the guy I beat 2-0 won the tournament. I wanted to play Ichorid myself, but I never got the LED's I won on Ebay (first time ever, and that sucks, I can assure you).
I was very happy with DS the first 4 rounds, but after that, major failfest.
EDIT: Maulers were awesome, for those who were wondering. They won me three games at least, and there wasn't a moment I'd have preferred the Sulfur Elemental. My meta is heavily combo-orientated, and Blue Control and Thresh was almost unplayed (Thresh would be perfect for Mauler of course, but Blue Control is perfect for Sulfur). I haven't seen a single Counterspell (but could have in the first Matchup but he didn't draw a single one in three games). So Mauler was great the entire tournament. They're not that great against storm combo or Ichorid, but neither is Sulfur.
Pyrokinesis > Pyroclasm in most cases if you have to choose one. I run both in my list, because there's very little in the way of graveyard dependent decks in my meta and having both really helps the Goblin match.
I'd only run Pyroclasm over Pyrokinesis if you expect to see a lot of EtW and few Goblins.
Howdy Sourcers! First post here and I'm currently playtesting this list and I'm giving that seemingly ever debated creature slot filled by dudes like Sulfur elemental or Mauler some thought.
Heres some new faces that might be fun.
Adamaro, First to Desire. 3 drop, so he is easily powered out. Post chalice, sphere, or moon hes giant if they have no answers to the soft lock. Decent quick beats for cheap and sits easy with sphere. Cons? Useless against Ichorid. And Thresh shouldn't have the trouble with their hand.
Lu Bu, Master-at-arms. OK ok I know hes a 6 drop but listen, hes unblockable and Haste. Slap a jitte or SoFI on this guy and now hes an absolute monster. Cons? Legendary. Can be extremely hard to find. And might be a win more.
And on a personal note, Lu Bu killed a 1000 men at Hu Lao Gate. Let your opponent know this while Lu Bu is smashing his face rather matter of factly and they'll still be sitting wondering why A guy on a horse is hard to block.
Just throwing them out there folks! Light up the thread.
Adamaro is 1RR, so that pretty much disqualifies him. Lu Bu is a 6-mana drop in a 3-drop slot. The 5 drops in the deck win games on their own (Slogger), or aren't really 5-drops (Mauler) - and eitherway 5 drops can come out on a Song without additional mana, while Lu Bu can't, and isn't good without Jitte. The choices seem pretty obvious to me...
Thanks for the feedback, and I agree with your point on Lu Bu its kinda like running Akroma without the size. Adamaro isn't exactly a fail boat just too slow and dependent. Still testing new faces!
What it comes to Eventide previews, this might be worth testing:
Duergar Hedge-Mage
2(R/W)
Creature- Dawrf Shaman
2/2
When THIS comes into play, if you control two or more mountains, you may destroy target artifact.
When THIS comes into play, if you control two or more plains, you may destroy target enchantment.
Might be a decent artifact hate, as it swings with equipment and fits the curve perfectly. Time will tell.
I wouldn't play a card that reads "2R 2/2 CIP you may destroy target artifact" MD or SB: plain too narrow!
Who knows if there will be a nasty artifact unable to be dealt by Pithing Needle that presents prevalently:tongue:
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
if you control two or more mountains
I think we should have a new rule saying that anyone who suggests a new card for Dragon Stompy has to explain what current card it's better than and why. Best case scenario is that there are no more posts suggesting terrible creatures. Worst case scenario is that we can all have a few good laughs.
Maybe we could get a mod/mods to enforce it?
To me that sounds more like a win-win scenario :D
Just out of curiosity; has anyone pimped his or hers dragon stompy? I'm really tempted to foil it out, but the moxen, Jittes and the UH mountains would cost a little too much. I'd rather spent that money on staples f.e.
If someone has a pic of a foiled out DS could that person please provide me with some major kicks and post the aforementioned pic in the appropriate thread?
(same goes for everyone with Resets where the stick is a dick. (don't ask) )
Erm, I'd be more worried about the City of Traitors...Quote:

It is impossible to foil the entire DS deck as some of the parts are from before the Urza era (where Wizards decided to make foil versions of cards and stick them in packs). Unless some of them were handed to judges as promos for their efforts.
Having such a rule might prevent the thread from degenerating into meaningless card choice discussions which always end up with the optimal decklist being right back where it started, much in the same way that saying "Be Careful!" prevents somebody who has just fallen down the stairs from falling down the stairs.
