Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
@kinda
I agree that Nahiri, the Harbinger seems really sweet with Scrying Sheets but Blood Moon turns off sheets. In my testing turn 3 moon was ok in some matchups but mediocre in most. Decks that can take advantage of playing it on turn 1 and 2 have a better chance of it locking the opponent out. We also play some number of Humility and Ensnaring Bridge. So what would be the best target for Nahiri, the Harbinger's ultimate. I think Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is the best target but is it the best fit?
On another note. I have been looking at Recruiter of the Guard for this deck as it gives the SFM package more legs (no pun intended). It also gives us the option to run a small utility creature package or even Monastery Mentor which works well with top.*Yes as I said above we run anti creature cards. To make room I would move 1 Humility to the board and maybe cut some number of bridges as well as cut the Isochron Scepter package. Most guys should be able to get under a bridge and dork beat down could be a solid plan b. Maybe something like this:
Land (24)
15 Snow-covered Plains
3 Arid Mesa
1 Windswept Heath
3 Scrying Sheets
1 Kor Haven
1 Darksteel Citadel
Creatures (6)
3 Recruiter of the Guard
1 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Ethersworn Cannonist
1 Monastery Mentor
Instant (7)
4 Swords to Plowshares
2 Enlightened Tutors
Sorcery (6)
3 Terminus
2 Council's Judgment
1 Wrath of God
Artifact (11)
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Ensnaring Bridge
2 Helm of Obedience
1 Pithing Needle
1 Batterskull
1 Umezawa's Jitte
Enchantment (5)
4 Rest in Peace
1 Humility
Plainswalker (1)
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
This is probably what I will have sleeved up next time I sit down to jam some games of legacy.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I've been durdling with rainbow reanimator the last couple weeks and decided to dust off Quinn tonight...3--1!!! Beat tin fins, stone blade, and punishing zoo. Lost to bug.

Congrats on the finish. What list were you on? I have been playing manaless lately myself so I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I lent out Quinn to someone who went 3-1 today. Only lost to shardless. Humility and scepter caused lots of confusion :).

If the cars aren't too expensive I might try and play your list this weekend.
PS - what's the difference between Quinn and parfait? They seem very similar to me.

Sounds good, there are not many decks cheaper than Quinn! Quinn doesn't usually run land tax/Mox diamond/scroll rack. Instead the engine is snow lands/scrying sheets/top.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Quinn again today, same list! I started out today beating manaless dredge :D. Then lost pretty badly to sneak and show. Sneak attack is tough and back in force...probably going to up my needle count to 3-4 in the 75 plus need to rethink my board. I then beat aluren to go 2-1...managed to pull off humility+desert combo! In the last round I lost to my friend playing splinter twin...I ain't even mad. We figured we probably played the first ever Quinn vs Splinter twin legacy match ever. And we were both 2-1. Luckily that's not a real deck as all he had to do was counter humility/bridge/second combo piece and then have a piece of protection to win. Plus he boarded in wear//tear's and I mulled both games. So 2-2 overall, I'm working on a new mono black leyline/helm deck so probably gonna take a break from Quinn for a while. Anyone still Quinning out there?

I still play the deck from time to time when I want to test legacy and I wanna have fun. I was thinking about dusting it off for an event coming up. Any thoughts on the meta as of late. I would probably run something close to what I have been on in the past. I still wanna try the creature build but I might not have time to test it enough.

Sounds good! I would recommend 4 mentors in the 75, probably sideboard. Isochron scepter is pretty weak right now I feel. Post a list and little report after!

I like the idea if Mentor as a clock. What matchups have you brought them in for? Isochron Scepter has been really hit or miss since Decay got printed so I can see cutting the package in favor of other things. Also what do you think about wasteland?

I haven't played mentor yet but g2/3 people tend to take out removal and I think we can capitalize on that. I'd bring in some most matches. Wasteland is an option but I was thinking factories since they work well with humility and I'm fed up with Jace. I would -2 scepter -1 desert -2 snow plains +4 factory +1 elspeth or Gideon from the last list I posted. Plus 4 mentors on the board. Probably cut a chant and try to get 2 terminus in the main too.

Jace has always been an issue for me which is why I have a needle main.
Man lands do work well with humility and that is an option.
Walking Balista is something I might want to try as well. It is tutor-able with e. Tutor functions as removal without humility and a 1/1 with X counters under humility.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
I run a needle main too and 4 o-ring. Ballista is interesting...hadn't considered it. He's even fine main since he's basically a removal spell (doesn't really care about swords/push/punishing fire) that can be a win con if needed.

I agree with his assessment of Unexpectedly Absent having played 2 in the past. One thing I would like to add is that it does have some use against counter balance. You can play it for any number and make them have the hard counter to put the counter balance back in their library beyond just a brainstorm. The down side is that they can dig up a lot of cards in a turn so it might only be a turn or two window without it down and active. It is at its best when getting to play it in response to a shuffle effect. My 2 cents. Should be playing this tomorrow so keep you posted.

Good luck!! Porphyry nodes is slow but it's my favorite tutor target on the draw vs Thalia decks and is good vs delver decks too. Bridge often meets daze/spell pierce so I like having the 1cc option. It causes a lot of opponent error too.

I might put 1 in the board if I have room but it is slow and most people won't play more creatures into it. Generally I have found that we have a good match up with Thalia decks already with out it. Delver decks can be rough but they are generally threat light.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
So it was a bad day for Quinn. Ended up going 1-3 drop and felt doomed from the start. Got the Balistas but could only get 2 mentors on the day. So I registered this
Land (22)
15 Snow-covered Plains
3 Scrying Sheets
2 Arid Mesa
1 Kor Haven
1 Darksteel Citadel
Creatures (2)
2 Walking Balista
Instant (11)
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Enlightened Tutors
3 Orim's Chant
Sorcery (4)
2 Council's Judgment
1 Wrath of God
1 Terminus
Artifact (10)
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Ensnaring Bridge
2 Helm of Obedience
1 Pithing Needle
Enchantment (10)
4 Rest in Peace
4 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Humility
Plainswalker (1)
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Sideboard (15)
2 Recruiter of the Guard
2 Ethersworn Cannonist
2 Engineered Explosives
2 Monastery Mentor
1 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Aegis of Honor
1 Elixir of Immortality
1 Path to Exile
1 Disenchant
1 Aura of Silence
1 Pithing Needle
Round 1 v. Miracles 0-2
Feature match on camera (see if I can find that later) After thoughts are that I could have boarded better (pseudo punt by boarding out both Balistas) and could have played tighter . But I like pushing through counters. I might have been to aggressive here. I felt bit rusty but it is a god awful match up to begin with.
Round 2 v. Infect 0-2
Game 1 didn't have enough meaningful interaction and if I remember right he crop rotated for a waste to hit my Kor Haven. The turn before I draw Bridge and don't see another land before I die.
Game 2 I mulled to 6 kept an ok hand and proceeded to flood and not draw zero interaction (seeing 3 lands off a top for 2 turns) to keep me alive.
Round 3 v. Lands 2-0
Nothing to see here.
Round 4 v. D&T 0-2
Game 1 I died the turn before stabilizing.
Game 2 kept a hand with interaction and got stuck with Terminus in hand and stuck on 4 lands till I died. I drew land number 5 on the last turn of the game.
Terminus felt like the worst card in the deck all day. Some of that is to having it in my opening hand a few times or drawing it on an empty board. It would have been better as actual WoG most of the times I saw it.
Walking Balista felt solid and caught most people by surprise. I wanna test more with it. It soaked up counters or removal as most people viewed it as a huge problem card.
The recruiters were fun out of the board and did an alright impression of mentors and Balistas. I think I will keep them around for the time being.
Mentors seemed strong and I did like bring them in. They did work when I saw them. Might try and get my hands on a few more before the next event.
Orim's Chant felt weird with out Scepter and might be better out of the board to fight counter magic. Maybe even play our own in Mana Tithe instead. Or fill the slots with other things we may want.
All in all I felt like the match ups were good except round 1 and could have probably played a bit tighter and some of that might have just been rust but I never truly felt out of any games that I played with the exception of game 2 v. Infect. I will keep tweaking and tuning for the next event. There might be something to a more traditional list. Yay for testing.

Re: [Deck] Quinn The Eskimo- Aka, The Mighty Quinn
Bummer...at least you got to try some new cards. Having to play miracles round 1 was rough. Mana tithe fun fact...I went 4-0 at my local once when I was living in Los Angeles with 3 main deck mana tithe.
