To be honest, I'm happy about possible reprints just so I can have 12 Tarmogoyfs.

Just so that we can get back on topic...

Since Wizards announced they'll be reprinting the Modern staples should we expect the prices for cards like Tarmogoyf, Clique, Bob to drop to more reasonable/affordable prices anytime soon?

Ummm, unless you work part time at Wendy's you still can. An Unlimited Lotus is usually like $700-800 in average condition, but still that is a lot of money.

I'm starting to think that the speculators are really starting to hurt all of the formats. Did you notice after the Modern tournament this weekend that prices on some of the older cards like Through the Breech, Disrupting Shoal, and Blazing shoal went through the roof and sold out just about everywhere?

Those were all literally 50 cent cards just a day before and now they are breaking the 10 dollar mark overnight. It shows that people are not just buying themselves a playset now, they are buying out the stores in force all at once. I had just bought a playset of Blazing Shoals just a few days before since I saw Sam Black's Infect list and thought it was hilariously fun looking. $4 for the playset.

There's a few people out there buying up stuff in swathes. Good practice I guess if you are trying to make money. It sure is a pain in the butt to anyone just wanting to build decks though. I'm not that annoyed with higher prices, cards that get better uses tend to go up in price. I'm more annoyed at the people who buy them ALL out and sit on them. I wanted to pick up a few things and now there's none for sale anywhere. Grrrr.

That is just fucking insane. I would never pay $50+ for a set of Blazing Shoals.. I'd rather spend that money on a Japanese foil Green Sun Zenith before the card spikes to a hundred each (lol).

Btw, in case you didn't notice Jap foil Misty Rainforests are $200 now, thank you Modern.

Eh, not really. Have you tried to buy out an online store anytime recently? Virtually all the vendors on FMC and tcgplayer have a limit on what quantity each order can contain, usually 4 or 8. Unless you think a couple people are making a dozen orders of 4x [card], paying extra shipping on each one.

In any event, what do you propose be done about it?

Do those Shoals actually sell for that price? Because you can still get them for rather cheap on mkm.

Yeah the shoals actually sold for that price. Those were completed auctions.

As for what can be done to change it. Nothing it seems. I was just bitchen. lol There's not much way to stop a person if they want to buy out everything. Limits don't really make a difference if you just make several accounts, separate orders, or just plain have friends order the max also. Like I said, it's just a pain if you happened to have wanted a card that just got popular. I feel sorry for all those people who didn't have Rav duals and wanted to get into Modern.

Happily, the Rav duals have cooled off a bit, and the top decks don't seem to need more than 4-7 shocklands total.

Honestly the price jumps and wild speculation over the past couple years is making me slightly ashamed to associate myself with the Magic community as a whole.

I'll trade that for a dual any day. This speculation game is getting silly. I would say that the MTG speculation market is probably the easiest and most profitable market since the market is so easy to predict, and it appears that the consumers have way too much disposable income to dump before turning on their thinking caps.

To add further to that, the MTGO marketplace is even more predictable. I've cashed out close to $500 this past week alone from an initial $100-150 investment just riding the Modern cash-wave. Buy early, sit, wait, watch the market boom, then cash out before the major events (GP/PT, Set rotation/release, banning announcements, etc).

What about vengevine at the moment? Is it a good idea to buy some or would you wait? It cooled down a lot since vengevival...

Ugh, why the hell is Cursecatcher around $3? It's uncommon! :(

Easy. A good rule of thumb for Type 2 legal cards is wait till they rotate, which is soon. It can take a little while for the prices to dip but it'll happen.

The same thing happening with Blazing Shoal happened to a smaller extent with Through the Breach. After the SCG top 8 with Breach and Show, they jumped to ~4 and after modern 12 post decks taking advantage of it, SCG is sold out at 12. I picked 3 up form my LGS for 2 bucks a piece. I'm thinking i can turn a 6 dollar purchase into 2 zen fetches if I'm lucky.

Modern is so dumb. All these kids cried a river over legacy being too expensive but now they will gladly shell out $120 dollars for garbage dual lands and $50 for a playset of Blazing Shoals that will all be worth a combined total of $45 in a year or two.
