I hope they print yet another stupid blue card next year so that we can get something else back

Pity Bring To Light didn't have X instead of 3 in the casting cost then, huh?

There are still plenty of stupid blue cards for them to ban...
What else do you want back?
Vise was really the only one I wanted off.

Does that mean everyone will stop foaming at the mouth about Brainstorm which is still in the format?
Re: All B/R update speculation.
No, they banned a worse, less played card, still makes no sense at all. Vise won't do much of anything but by all means let's continue the hostage exchange management of the BNR list.
Re: All B/R update speculation.
Fack Yeah!!!! DTT banned. Time to pull my cards out of the dust.

I would say that it is a bandage, HSCK. But it is very likely to reduce the acrimony. Nedleeds, are you still on about this? I am OK with the move. It was chicken shit, but it goes with their modus operandi to treat the symptoms instead of the disease. Kinda works

I'm all for banning Brainstorm, but DTT was the more urgent ban.
And while Black Vise should be a safe unban, their reasoning sounds like something they pulled straight out of Erik Lauer's ass:
Quote:
Some of the recent Legacy bans have been powerful card-drawing cards. Historically, Black Vise was a powerful card against those decks—and at times it was too powerful, limiting the metagame. Legacy decks are powerful enough that R&D does not think this is a likely problem, and the change might increase the diversity of the format. Black Vise is unbanned.
:eyebrow:
Re: All B/R update speculation.
Completely agree with DTT ban. The card is super overpowered and was giving blue big edges to almost every possible situation in a "supposedly" losing board/game state.
This should shake the meta and make those Jund/Maverick/Death&Taxes/Elves come again to take some top8 spots more consistently.

The question is between Black Vise + the cards released in KTK block, Origins, and BFZ, are there non-Brainstorm-engine decks that can be explored?
I tend to think there are. Certainly decks were pushed out by the raw power of DTT. I beat two chalice decks and two blood moon decks in an IQ with a deck playing 3 DTT, 18 one-drops and 1 basic land. Now that DTT isn't a payoff for filling your deck with air, running cantrips till death might not provide the same advantage.
There's also a nice tension created between the increased power of cards like Hymn to Tourach and Liliana of the Veil, and their dis-synergy with Black Vise. Vise decks are completely unexplored in this format, right? I don't think I've resolved one since I was like 14.
Re: All B/R update speculation.
If they were to put a brainstorm ban up for a vote, I would easily vote for it. But until we actually would have a solid majority of people who would, I don't think it's just 'wizards is chicken shit'. Making the majority of legacy players unhappy 'for the good of the format' isn't a great way to improve the format. So I think it's on the people who think that brainstorm is a constraint on the format to convince way more people before wizards should be expected to do anything.
Nobody *loved* DTT, on the other hand, even people who played it. Everyone kinda played it with a goofy grin and a shrug...."yep...they're still letting us do this." So the negative reaction to this ban is gonna be pretty limited, I think, nobody is gonna quit magic, and the format will get marginally better.

No because Brainstorm is the actual problem and maybe they should just deal with it instead of dancing around it because of its "legendary reputation" or whatever the fuck excuse people use for grandfathering it in?
They keep banning the symptoms instead of the disease, then act shocked and surprised when new symptoms show up every year.
Re: All B/R update speculation.
Thinking, might test out RUG Lands a while. Vice could be fun there.
Also, Liquid water found on Mars. Just thought I would throw that in.

Actually, I am sure you are right. They can't just ban BS. They have to grease the wheels with a great number of alternatives before they can seriously consider it.

Yep. The water was on the surface, too, so they didn't even need Dig to find it.

I mean, if there's enough water we could take a Cruise on the surface.
Re: All B/R update speculation.
Does the Dig Through Time ban mean Sneak and Show becomes the pre-eminent Show and Tell deck once again?
