My bad. Them showing a the Thoctar choosing to trade with the 2/2 over the 3/4 made me presume otherwise. In that case, I consider none of these changes negative overall.

Poorly. Damage prevention is bad.

Dont know, dont care. That's why i'm not a magic card designer. Would still be surprised if they dont do it, considering how much more complicated they made their simplified combat step just to accomodate damage prevention.
And why wouldnt it work? a set that has a lot of cards that prevent damage, and a lot of cards that do wierd stuff whenever damage is prevented (or better yet, when it ISNT prevented).

enchantment
Whenever damage is dealt to you, prevent one of that damage.
Whenever you would lose life because of damage, lose life equal to twice the damage instead.
A few of these in play and you're prety much immortal, but you'd better have other damage prevention or you'll end up taking more then you were dealt by anything that deals more then 2.
Re: Magic 2010 Rules Changes
I read the first 5 pages and they're all the same thing, but that's what Wizards needs to see to know the current player base is mostly upset.
I like changing "play" to "cast" because that's what I've always said and it doesn't change the game at all.
Changing "removed from game" to "exile" is nice, but the interaction with Wishes and Exiled changes Legacy more than most people here have realized.
The change and re-change of Lifelink/Trigger is ugly. It wasn't broke before.
The combat step has become difficult to comprehend. I feel the same changes could have been brought with a different method.
I read the article in it's entirety. I can think of many things that have become confusing or gotten worse, but I cannot think of anything that has gotten easier for the game. I feel these changes are to shake the game up more, and fix the game less.
People here have been crying out about quitting or whatever. This isn't what should or will happen. However, I'm pondering if this is the time when Legacy goes unsanctioned. Legacy already receives very little attention from Wizards as it is, and unsanctioning the format allows us to keep our current card interactions without losing a whole lot. In the last 5 years there have been 2 large sanctioned Legacy events, GP Flash and GP Nassif. The champs/worlds at Gen Con and Nationals only pull in about 80 people, which I'd trade to get rid of this rules change. Any thoughts on an unofficial Legacy DCI?

Yeah, color me Sanguine. Can we get a "Source Guide to M10 Combat Phase"? Plz?
Also, THE BEGINNING OF THE END!!! made me chuckle.

GP Nassif?
Don't write off how well Caplan (goobafish) and Probasco (brassman) did in a field of well over a thousand players because you have an ax to grind. That's really rude man.
Re: Magic 2010 Rules Changes
To be clear, I'm not going to quit Magic, nor do I think the end of the world is nigh. However, I am still pretty pissed about the change to combat damage. And, yes, a large part of the reason for that is because my favorite deck just got nerfed. I guess if all I wanted to play was tarmogoyf.dec, then I wouldn't care about the changes, either.
I'll get over it, but I'm going to hold onto my anger for a while.

Re: Magic 2010 Rules Changes
So what's the point of running creatures with nice activated abilities anymore? Many times, the activated ability is just a non-creature spell placed onto a creature (Naturalize --> Quasali Pridemage). Wouldn't it make more sense to run big beaters + non-creature spell as opposed to small beater with the non-creature spell's effect built in?
Re: Magic 2010 Rules Changes
7 pages of whining after the WotC changes is exactly how I see the legacy community nowadays: Mostly unable to change, clinging on their foiled pet decks, entrenched in their format which they proclaim is the holy grail of magic.
The changes make some stuff worse, so do cards in new sets. Stop complaining and begin to understand that the ability to change is something every good player has.

Fundamental changes that radically alter the norm are going to be questioned and examined. Not just in Magic, but in anything. I can tell that you're not a very good critical thinker and are probably that guy who just goes along with the herd.

Do Not Feed The Troll
And I love the " The sky is falling" nerdrage attitude that accompanies any change in a geek-based game, be it online or offline. What will happen is this:
WotC will make the changes, you will adapt to the changes, or you won't. Then, WotC will assess the changes and change them back, or they won't. But QQing about it won't change a damn thing!
Have a nice day :)

EDIT: I thought DNFTT = Duke Nukem Forever Take Two
