Yes, but it's another take on another blue "iconic" card. The pattern is more and more boring and obvious. Not to mention the art... srsly, I'm not into this kind of tawdry things, but yeah, teen guys love that. A black Delvonic Tutor or green Delvgrowth, now that'll be interesting cards. The green one should return two and exile itself, lest it'll be crap compared to Regrowth, but a better priced Restock with a subgame of "what should I delve and what should I return?" would be interesting. Maybe not. But lets keep this for the Obligatory Thread...

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd as soon see stronger Green and Black Delve cards. I just don't think this Time Walk matters. Reprints happen, sometimes it isn't worth over analysing. I'm not pissed that Delve Ape is a 4/4 trampler like my cousin Arrogant Wurm.

Arrogant Wurm isnt't Time Walk... :laugh:
The new TW mght be interesting in UR Pyromancer decks. Although it fights over slots with TC, it might be good as a one or two of. In a deck designed to misuse graveyard and cantrips (maybe even ditch Swiftspear?) this might be pretty powerful. Delver and token beats with occasional Walk?

Tripple blue plus 8 cards to delve is still pretty harsh for UR Delver to cast compared to Treasure Cruise. Shitting out "hasty" tokens and getting extra swings with Delver is nice, but it has to battle with TC for slots.

As far as Delve spells go, I'd fully expect them to print some dumb, big, green vanilla fatty.

No right I know, Arrogant Wurm is no Time Walk. But it's still a card that's been seen before with a new paint job. 4/4 Tramplers aren't exactly new tech, and undercosting them with an enabler is an old trick as well - Madness, Affinity, whatever-the-hell-else, etc. The point though is that the reprint isn't the problem, it's the perceived power level of the reprint.

Which, honestly as a triple-Blue casting cost, I don't think is too crazy and will probably keep it out of a lot of decks.

Here's hoping for that Wild Mongrel with Outlast reprint. *fingers fucking crossssssssed*

I've been anticipating this and still hopeful. Green could get Something Tooth and Nail like, maybe even a single target tutor that outs the creature on the battlefield. I don't know what it would have to cost cmc wise, possibly XG fetch critter with cmc<= X.

I'd love to see a delve balance.

While the "take the old card and put delve on it" feels like a lazy design process, that's not exactly true. People enjoy playing iconic cards from Magic, but they can't legitimately reprint them. So, designing them with delve is a way to allow people to get the feeling of playing some of these iconic cards. To us, the design might seem lazy, but I imagine a modicum of thought goes into how the player feels when casting certain spells.

Delve balance would be sweet, but white doesn't get delve. Wizards should've printed a miracles Balance. I'm kind of hoping for a 3cmc 2/4 flyer with etb to be printed in Reforged, I think my modern pod deck could really use it.

Lifelink for spells is kinda weird, but 4 mana buyback for any spell? With the amount of free/1-mana spells in the format, this guy is going to do alot, and it isn't going to be pretty.

I thought we weren't doing this card creation thing anymore....

Soulfire Grandmaster could have some potential with its lifelink ability, the buyback might be just a tad too expensive.

Buybacking Fireblast for the finish or FoW in longer games sound like powerful options. There are quite a few things that could be explored.

Yes, the buyback ability isn't cheap, but I wouldn't underestimate it, especially in decks that can run blue to slow your opponent down.

Awesome card! I love it! Unique ability too.

The "your spells have lifelink" reminds me of Un-Sets.

On second thought, the card sucks. It should have been "Instants and sorceries you control have banding."

No, the Soulfire Grandmaster is broken as shit in Modern, even without taking into account the whole 'Buyback :2: :ur: :ur: " thing. It's also really powerful with the Reflect Damage class of cards....like Deflecting Palm and Lighning Bolt.

I think it has minor Legacy applications (the lifeliking spells is marginally relevant for Burn variants) but overall, initial impressions are that it's no Stoneforge or YP.

In other news, does anyone else feel like the quality of flavor text has reached an all time low?

So Lightning Helix deals 3 damage, gives you 3 life and an additional 3 lifepoints via lifelink? How does this Spell-lifelink interact with lifeloss?

As for Lifelink with life loss, I don't think it will do anything because the rules on lifelink explicitly reference "damage".
