While I don't agree with your point, it doesn't really matter. I've decided to make the last slot the forth Pyroblast. Final answer, Regis.

Can you explain why you think Deathmark is better?
Also, I don't get the Regis thing.
Isn't Thoughtseize better than the 4th Blast since it isn't so awkward with LED?

Deathmark doesn't suck in the match-ups where I want it? I don't care about Iona because decks don't play her. There's reanimator? I guess if we're metagaming for a tier 3 deck, sure. Deathmark hits Gaddeck Teeg and Cannonist without the added life against a deck like Zoo where every lifepoint matters because Ad Nauseam night not be able to create that additional Storm. Not to mention that Deathmark is on color so it can be cast off of Dark Ritual and looks better on Moxen. I guess Oust has cool points? If you're going for cool points, Eye of Nowhere someones land and/or Grapeshot them out.
I haven't been able to make up my mind on the slot. It's a "Who wants to be a millionaire" reference.
Thoughtsieze costs life against decks like Merfolk where your life total matters and it can't be used to destroy/counter Counterbalance. I can't count how many times I've Duress'd turn one to have them hide their Counterbalance and lock me out on their turn two. It's frustrating, it'll happen less with four Pyroblast in the deck instead of six Duress. Yes, Pyroblast has bad interactions with LED, but I'm willing to take my chances.
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
HI:
I've been going through the posts in this thread and starting to familiarize myself with this deck using Bryant Cook's list with a few changes:
1) 14th land and 3 silences because I don't have Orim's chant as of the moment(can't think of a good substitute yet)
2) Eye of Nowhere is part of my wishboard instead of thoughtseize
3) Singleton Deathmark
3) Singletons of Echoing truth, Chain of vapor and Wipe away
Then I came accros an opening hand with:
Mox, Ponder, Infernal tutor, lotus petal, 3 LEDs
I know this is a 1st turn kill(and no real manasource). But in a real life situtation(like tournaments) against an unknown opponent, would you risk this hand if you're on the play?

Sure why not?
40% chance they don't have Force, and thats only if they are playing blue.
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
Thanks.
I guess I just have to know when to risk and when to play safe(reason why I chose TES over SI)
I've also been trying the Diminishing Returns avenue(following the tips on the primer, minus the "haven't played land" clause) and getting good results so far, especially with UX floating..

Fixed it for you.
If you can kill them T1, do it.

Ahh, thank you. Tired typing.

Is the 3cmc of Virtue's Ruin why you don't run it? It destroys multiple hate bears (and even Progenitus if those shenanigans somehow happen before they are dead). Or are you infrequently in the situation where the opponent has multiple hate bears in play?

If this was a genuine concern of TES, we would be running Pyroclasm, but this is an extremely rare thing, so we don't even worry about it.
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
Running this tomorrow. My LGS is finally doing Legacy twice a month :)
Relevant decks in the meta:
2-4 Merfolk
1-2 Countertop
0-1 Stax
Hate cards I've seen people use are:
Gaddock Teeg
Leyline of Sanctity
Mindbreak Trap
Thorn of Amethyst
Chalice of the Void
Trinisphere
What board would you guys suggest? I really want Xantid Swarm.
Oh, and 100th post :)

I'll give it a shot :) Also I plan on playing this at SCG Kansas City in a week. Any advice there? I was probably going to ditch the Xantid Swarms and max out my Countertop slots.

This is what Bryant posted earlier, and has been working well for me in testing.
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
With this new board plan how would u board vs the various blue decks. Mostly what would u suggest for the counterbalance and merfolk matchups. I never bring all my red blasts in vs merfolk as they didn't seem needed. I would assume u need some amount of red blast now what is the number u have been using and what u taking out. Also have u missed having swarm in these type of matches?
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
Longtime reader, first time poster.
Took the Bryant's list to a local Legacy tourney (3 rounds only) and ended up going 3-0 in rounds and 6-0-1 in games. Wicked.
Afinity (2-0): on the 1st game didn't have a fast hand but still managed a 4th turn kill generating enough mana to be able to Grapeshot him for 20 thanks to tutor chaining and IGG. On the second game he was bashing with 2 guys and dropped a Cranial Plating, was at 13 life and finally managed to get enough resources to kill him thanks to but-load of mana and Ad Nauseam.
Merfolk (2-1): I started out too aggressive and him too lucky so I quickly die buried in a stream of Merfolks and Standstills. Game 2 was won thanks to me baiting him out with Rite of Flame, chaining Dark Ritual, LEDs and Ad Nauseam with letal damage next turn from his side. Game 3 was a breathtaking. He forced a Duress, had letal on the table and I was forced to go off: LED, LED, LED, Lotus Petal, Infernal Tutor, discard hand containing ToA, payed for Cursecatcher with LED mana, got Burning Wish, wished for IGG, IGG getting back Duress, Dark Ritual and ToA, got his Force with Duress, Ritual and generated exactly the 4 mana needed for ToA.
Zoo (2-0): Almost perfect hand with 1st turn EtW for 16 or 18 goblins in game 1. Game 2 I got a fast hand with a 1st turn Ad Nauseam but I somewhat miscalculated mana color and ended up having to pass the turn. Next turn brought a ToA big enough to win.
This was the second time I took the deck to this particular store. First time 3rd and now 1st. Looking good and a blast to play. Props to Bryant for this unique and extremely fun deck (at least from my side of the table).
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
I've decided to get back to playing combo again. I did play TES for a little awhile right after they printed Ad Nauseam. But my meta was full of counterbalance and I had just kind of jumped into playing it and didn't spend near enough time honing my skills with it. The maindeck and sb Bryant has in the OP is proving very good in testing. I need to set up some rules for myself when I mulligan. I have a few questions for seasoned players:
1. Against an unknown,on the play, if you have a hand of: sea, ponder, LED, rite, ritual, petal, silence.. Do you keep this? It has no tutor, only 1 cantrip, but enough gas to go crazy if we draw a tutor. I've had this pan out for me a few times goldfishing, but against opponents, if they have a quick clock, it can turn sour if the deck decides to draw us garbage.
2. I see meltdown in some sideboards, is it worth the slot over shattering spree?
3. Most versions do not run cabal ritual, there are times when I could see it really being strong, but rite is really strong as well.
4. IT in the board? I see the benefit and the downfall of only running 3 main, is there any particular matchups where the one in the sb is better?

I keep that everytime. Its storm combo, you have to get used to the idea that every now and again the deck will shit out on you

Not really. Spree has a higher colored cost but is way better at killing multiple peices of hate and is on average cheaper

The question isn't if Cabal is a decent accelerant. Its just what card(s) would you drop for it? I don't see any cards maindeck where I think, "This would be better as a Cabal Rit"

The issue with IT in the SB is that if you have enough mana to Wish->IT->something, you can probably win with IGG or go for D Returns with mana up. However, MD it gives the deck a better threat density for times when you need to topdeck that tutor to win
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
The only time I want to wish for infernal is when I could go wish->infernal->ad nauseam. Winning with iggy takes more mana, and you need another wish/tutor to make it work. Wishing for infernal and getting ad nauseam is something I would love to see turn 1 or 2. After that, more avenues usually open up.
Re: [DTW] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm
Here's a little scenario that happened to me. The veteran storm players will probably figure this out pretty quickly but for you newer guys out there, this could help! Here's the situation:
Your turn 5 (after bouncing a Teeg and diminishing returning during previous turns):
Board state - City of Brass, Underground Sea, Underground Sea, Chrome Mox(Chain of Vapor)
Life totals - Opp:18, You:6
After brainstorming with blue from your Chrome Mox(Chain of Vapor), your hand is the following:
Rite of Flame, Chain of Vapor, Dark Ritual, Infernal Tutor, Chrome Mox, Duress, Tendrils of Agony
Can you win?
(if you post right below this one, spoiler your answer please <3)
