Again no upgrade for this deck in this set...
First, they can't really lock us. Chalice@1 or Thorn does not prevent us from comboing nor advancing our game plan, and Chalice@2 or 3 can be Decayed if needed. We have Strix which is obviously great, and we can even race them if they open with Ancient Tomb. I think the MU is good, and one of the reasons to play this deck right now.
unfortunately unlike MUD our sideboard reclamation sages aren't as effective, reality smasher still hurts a ton if strix is absent (and still gets in for 4 trample even if you already have a strix out), thought knot screws with us if we're sandbagging a recruiter/combo, and having no wasteland means they are free to develop their fragile mana base unmolested. I haven't gotten to play this matchup much, but I don't think its as straightforward as you put it.
Eldrazi is why I set my list to rest for a little bit until we get a more clear Eldrazi version/the rest of the meta shifting enough to start to make Eldrazi not as prevalent, they make us sad. Thought-Knot Seer is a thing, it can ruin our day with very little effort. I've played the match a little bit and TKS taking Aluren or Recruiter hurts like hell, and the Recruiter only if I don't have one of the combo dudes in my hand (Parasitic Strix or Cavern Harpy). The Reality Smasher slams us really hard too, Basically if we don't have a bunch of dudes to throw under the bus or a Baleful, we aren't going to deal with the card very well. Deathrite Shaman helps a little in gaining some life, but that only stalls the inevitable, especially when they Warping Wail.
A friend of mine has been playing Eldrazi and he likes the power of the deck, but Goyf is often a 5/6 or bigger and that just shuts down the Eldrazi deck. They pretty need to be running something even bigger or be white and be able to use the Displacer/Priest combo to be fully rid of the problem, or at least Displacer for a temporary. All of which can be problematic against Delvers, especially Grixis with Stifles, Goyfs, Daze is really good in the first couple turns on Chalice and Thorn, hit and miss later, the FoW, Deathrites help too with 2 life with all the spells, zombie Fish trade with Goyf. If Eldrazi id going to be huge, I think that Grixis Delver would be a great choice to combat it while having pretty decent game against the rest of the field.
Aluren has a horrible match against against Eldrazi, can you win games? Most definitely, but they have TKS which makes us very sad when we can't brainstorm save, or float via Library our combo cards until we need them. We can't always trust in Abrupt Decay and Rec Sage to save the day main board from Chalice that if put on 2 makes us sad, on 3 makes up not do much of anything. Yes, we do have discard, and that helps when Chalice isn't on 1, but their top decks are better than our when they aren't lock pieces, which are still good as supplements. Thorn hurts more than you think if you can't get Aluren in play yet, it also makes Library slow to get online.
Have you really played the matchup? Sometimes you just lose, but that applies to every deck versus Eldrazi. Usually if you survive the initial onslaught, you will bury them under card advantage. You don't even need to combo them, just win by attacking and DRS activations. Of course it's not that straightforward and there's much game on both sides, but I won many playtest games where TKS took my combo piece. And their top decks are often just useless lands with no library manipulation, Reality Smashers are the only really scary ones. But hey, if your testing results show otherwise, then don't play the deck right now.
I'm preparing for my final exams right now but once that's over, like in middle of april, I'll log multiple consecutive games against my eldrazi friend and see how it goes. I don't want to add onto this debate without practical experience.
I'm looking for a few helpful comments as I've sleeved this deck in hopes that recruiter is printed in EMA. I looked back in the pages and found some useful information but I keep having the same problems versus the same decks, mainly eldrazi, infect and lands. I know eldrazi is just a bad match up and waiting until it settles down is a possibility I'd like to try and figure it out since it is basicly the same as any mud match. Strix has been an all star for me in this match as attacking profitably with TKS and the rest is difficult, the problem lies in smasher and a well timed warping wail. Preboard I've found its generally a race using your life total to your advantage with drs while keeping some kind of protection from getting the combo stripped. What I'm wondering is are there any bounce tempo creatures we can play besides man o war? I'd like to have flash so I can get the lands players that eot make a marit liege. Ive been contemplating a couple vapor snag in the plague bearer slot and some others that I haven't made up my mind with yet. Or does venser work?? I think while being ported and under a sphere he could cost to much.
Just wondering what the general consensus is while I get used to playing again.
bounce tempo creature -> sedraxis alchemist
flash creature -> anything with aluren, vensers shaper servant (i don't like this)
vs lands -> they do nothing against our combo, against their combo you can chump with strix
Been playing a lot with a friend playing with a moon stompy deck (prison) and I'm consistently getting beat up, winning only 1 out of 4 games. I noticed that it's auto lose when I'm on the draw and he mulls to a T1 blood moon or magus of the moon. By the time I recruiter into a reclamation sage and play it, he's already got a spare moon effect in play.
Any tips on playing against this strategy or should I just consider this a bad matchup?
one of aluren's main weaknesses is its manabase because you have 4 colors to work with. if they have the nuts opening turns then yes it is a bad matchup, but variance is a thing and those decks are unstable.
In my experience against my friend's Moggcatcher Prison deck, you search out basics and get DRS as soon as you can and it's not a bad match up. I win about 80% of those games. The games where he gets a Moon in play before I can search for a forest (DRS, Library, Rec Sage, play to your answers the best you can) are usually awful and I lose, Trinisphere can also be annoying in the first couple turns, especially if he gets a sol land and/or Chrome Mox to go a long with it, followed up by a moon, or visa versa.
I suppose it really comes down to what your list looks like, and his too. I normally don't have too much of a problem with it, but I also play 4 DRS and they are wonderful little things. It really hurts when he can get the Moggcatcher to tutor for Settler then Kiki... If he can get to that, there is no way of winning.
DRS is the only reason this deck even has a shot at existing in the current meta, and yes against a deck packing moon effects basic forest is your best friend. Then again it really depends on what your hand looks like, its very possible your hand is such that you are unable to fetch for basics, and then murphys law will have your opponent land a moon, but thats how life goes for aluren.
i recently played this deck after a friend told me that could be good now, in fact i like it a lot. any people still playing this regularly ? the matchup against miracles feels great, agains storm or other combo variants its more difficult but i thing its still positive after boarding no?
the eladrazi matchups is really that hard to knock this deck out?
The Eldrazi MU is just fine. Just practice with the deck and you should be set. I was about to play the deck the following GP, but I think I'd rather play BUG Standstill which I have more experience with. I'd still play Aluren in a smaller event because the deck is just so much fun.
Finished 223rd with aluren at GP Prague. Report here:

Does a non-Imperial version still vaguely exists at least ?
I have this deck sleeved but in like its 2006 version (UGb featuring raven familiar, man o war, cavern harpy, spike feeder). I'd very much like updating it, I'm just not willing to cough up 600+€ on the recruiters alone.
Is there a somewhat up-to-date and non-Imperial standard decklist ?
I've Ben having a lot of success with the current stock lists but adding 3 ensnaring bridge in the sideboard, seems to be beating eldrazi and also helps a lot in the combo lands match.
