so as an open question, how do people get cards signed. I would love to have my legacy deck fully signed, as that seems to boil my pasta over foils n such. but outside of a GP or open do people just mail their pricey cards out? I'm pretty scared to do that, not to mention I use my legacy cards pretty frequently. Thanks!
if you are living in the states events like comiccon or gencon with lots of artists attending are probably your best bet to get huge chunks signed at once if you don't want to mail out your cards. like this you can even get them signed in the manner like with a certain pen you bring yourself or at a certain spot on the card.
Running out of time to pimp before vintage champs. These arrived today.

Russian Foil Apes; that was quick. Very pretty.
Currently working on my most favorite Legacy deck. Although "pimp" on a budget i am trying to get around 60% foiled and the rest in Japanese. Also if i can i will try to get more signed stuff. Still lot of work to do.

Next step in the project is foiling out but the old border stuff and get a foil set of Metalworkers. The Monolith's, City's, Tomb's and Wastelands will traded for Japanese (signed). Foil Wasteland/Monolith are just a bit out of my budget. I am avoiding FTV foils. Also would love to have a Chinese Foil signed Emrakul (Noodles-monster).
I see that some of the foil versions of the cards of this deck are quite expensive, and I comprehend that now you don't have the budget to foil those cards right now, but I don't think that mixing languages is the way to go. If you go for non-foil japanese + foil english your cards will be nice and pimp, but IMO the deck will look weird with all that mix of latin and asian languages, and this deck also has to deal with the mix of old border and modern border.
I recommend you to:
a) Go for all japanese signed non-foil original version (by selling the foil cards you should have enough cash right now).
b) Be patient and get the foil cards when you find good offers. Play with the cards you have now, you can upgrade them later.
I recommend that because I've been in similar situations, and in the end the patience is worth it. The good mix between cards is what makes a nicer deck.
I really like your stuff, don't misunderstand me, I'm just trying to help.
I have thought about a symmetrical streamlined deck, but my dilemma lies in multiple aspects. Japanese foil would offcourse be awesome, but those cards just cost to much...
All non-foil Japanese is nice, but some cards are often read by opponents and caused unnecessary discussion which ruins the game mood during tournament. On top of that i really like foil's.
But going full foil is imposible since City of Traitors don't exist in foil. And having 4 non foils in a deck with 56 foil makes those "marked" cards. So i seek a balance between foil/non-foil and budget. Also i really do not like FtV foils, hence Ancient Tomb. So eventually a 60% (foil) and 40% (non-foil Jap) is my goal (unless budget suddenly expands). Where the old borders will become non-foil (signed) Japanese. Hope you understand my thought proces in this.
I have a set of Darksteel Trinisphere's, but those cards are soo bend that they differ from the rest of the foils and might become a problem on tournaments. I have had them in a really heavy book for a week, but it didn't make a difference. Anyone have any idea on how to counteract this? (and buying non-foils is not one of them).
What is the general opinion on promos? I have the ability to get some more my current project and I want it to look nice. I'm very particular on how my decks looks.
The card is Stone Rain. I can get either FNMs, 7th Edition foil, Masques foil, or P3K English.
I didn't say anything about the tombs, and I also think that tempest is much nicer than ftv (old border and can also be found in japanese), so it wouldn't be 56 foils/4 nonfoils but 52/8 (but actually the problem remains there, as all the nonfoil cards have a similar function xD).
Refering to that, does that make a 'marked cards' issue? it's not like when for example somebody has only the creatures altered, it's not your fault that there's only one card of the deck that cannot be foiled, and foil cards are official products..
P.D.: About the bolded text, I remember that you said that now you'll buy foil metalworkers ("Next step in the project is foiling out but the old border stuff and get a foil set of Metalworkers."), are you already changing your mind?
I got a game loss and nearly got a DQ for having too bend FNM Cabal Therapy's in my Nic Fit deck while about 40% was foiled anyway. Some foils just have those issue. It also works the other way around. It is easy to identify the non-foils between the foils. Plus in a deckcheck if the Judge is making a point out of it you can jump high and low it will remain a problem. The argument that WotC created this problem in the first place will not work. Not to speak about opponents that will bitch about it. Just want to prevent that shit from happening.
About the Metalworkers. Last month those costed 200 euro per set. Now 400 per set at least if you can find them LOL. Should have bought them then while i had the chance.
I would advise to play either a full foil deck or a full non foil deck in a tournament.
The problem is not that some cards are marked or not, it's just that any shitty opponent may try to take advantage of the fact that there is a difference between some cards in your deck.
The problem is that there are not many decks in legacy which can be all foil (affinity? burn?..), so it's quite unusual to be able to arrive at the 100%... I understand that you can take some information from that in some matches, but I don't think it matters enough to make it an issue (also I know that this doesn't matter when the decision is from a judge).
Also, if foils cannot be unbend, why not bend all non-foils from your deck?
