Blood moon was boss and only SnT played eldrazi to trump painter/stone, and no one played burn. Life was tits.
We definitely need to innovate to stay consistently competitive, unfortunately I can't contribute what I want to the development of this deck. It's just so much fun to play, I can't see myself switching decks. But I want to win when I get the chance to play.
We should change the name from shortcake to catch22

I agree with what you said, Omni-tell is a pain... sadly I'm not sure what we can do about it either, it's hard to cover both angles at the same time... maybe even impossible, it's also really easy for them to switch the line of play quickly. I would much rather play Sneak and Show then Omni-Tell, Sneak and Show is easier to disrupt. Miracles I think is entirely winnable, and I've had success against Miracles (Limted times playing them of coruse, but success none the less). I'm not sure if the new Monastary Mentor build will change that.
Rando thought of the day. If everyone is trying to win with 1/1 tokens (Monastary Mentor / Young Pyromancer / Lingering Souls), perhaps we should splash black for Illness in the Ranks. The black splash also opens us up to discard / Slaughter Games (which seems like a good way to shut Omnitell down, should you get a chance to cast it).

If you read back in the last couple of pages, splashing black has been pretty good for me with the exact cards you mention. I have yet to try any discard, and would like to hear feedback from anyone who decides to try it, in particular Cabal Therapy.

What about Sharpshooter?
-
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I think all the points made about that in the DnT imperial taxes discussion apply to sharpshooter here. The biggest one being that it doesn't kill mentor or tokens if they have a spell, and that it doesn't have haste and is easy to kill.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Canonist is your ticket to the Omnitell match, the same way ensnaring bridge is to sneak and show. You let the show and tell resolve and hope they don't plop down emrakul. With canonist out you have time to beat them down and/or find backup protection or extra canonists. It's really that important because it stops their combo cold. They maybe have one or two answers they could cunning wish for, wipe away is a pain, but that's why multiple canonist are really the only way to go. Also, grindstone fucks with their ant combo because you can just mill their emrakul and break up the chain.
With this in mind id honestly rather play against Omnitell than sneak attack. One can tweak the list to better combat one or the other. In the end we have silver bullets in canonist for Omnitell and bridge for sneak attack. They have wipe away, maybe two, and tutors and can trips to find it. Show and tell should be countered when one doesn't have a hate piece in hand, otherwise I'd gun for their tutors and dtt and even brainstorm+fetch if you have an extra blast.
Just like miracles, it's winnable and very skill intensive.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Got a chance to play a bit with a Pia and Kiran Nalaar in the deck yesterday, and my first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. It is extremely valuable as a tutorable removal spell that also buys several turns, and eliminates certain outs when you're at a low life total.
In particular, I played an insane game against BUG delver involving bridges and welders, and Pia allowed me to make sure I would not die to a topdecked deathrite shaman over the course of like 15 turns of being at 1 life. In addition, she managed to kill a previous DRS, chump block a lethal delver, shoot that delver, next turn, and kill a Liliana in the same game. Obviously this is a lot more value than would be typical, but the card has tremendous utility, and made every crap lotus petal, extra grindstone, etc. very good.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Played in a local 40-man for duals this week. Had a hard time deciding what deck to play, it was between Omni, Grixis Tempo with DRS green splash, Miracles, or this. Omni is popular right now but not a lot of people in the Seattle area are fans of the deck. We have a shitload of miracles and crazy 4-color brew/delver players though, so I thought painter would be a good position. It was also my first Legacy deck and I hadn't played it in a while.
4 Ancient Tomb
3 City or Traitors
2 Plateau
1 Great furnace
4 mountain
5 fetchland
4 recruiter
4 painter
3 welder
2 simian
1 revoker
1 jaya
1 ethersworn canonist
1 magus of the moon
4 moon
4 stone
3 top
3 petal
1 bridge
4 pyroblast
3 red blast
2 tutor
sideboard
1 enlightened tutor
1 reb
1 crypt
1 rip
1 thorn
1 trinisphere
2 bridge
1 magus of the moon
2 firebolt
2 koth
1 sphere of law
1 manic vandal
Round 1 Reanimator 1-0
Very hard matchup, and I knew what he was on as he was a friend/local player. I decided to go for the T1 blood moon g1 and it got forced. Proceeded to scoop to an animate dead'd griselbrand on t3.
Game 2 I manage to land an ethersworn canonist and painter on blue early in the match. 3 red blasts stop his attempts to combo and I grind him out I think turn 5 or 6.
Game 3 he drops an underground (perhaps on purpose to bait me, he is a smart guy) and passes and I go for the turn 1 moon again. It gets forced. He gets a reanimation target in his yard with a careful study turn 2 (I think tidespout.) I tutor for RIP eot and land it turn 3. There's a bit of draw go, I think I land a stone and a top but no painter, I top into crypt for backup and then top into a canonist. It's a pretty nice lock. I eventually get there with painter/stone.
Round 2 Death and taxes 1-1
Game one was crazy. I won't go into detail because it was really long and grindy, but basically the board state at then end of the game on his side is 3 mother of runes, batterskull, jitte, sofai, 2 revokers on grindstone, 2 aeither vial, a bunch of beaters (no fliers though). I have blood moon, magus of the moon, 3 recruiters, 2 painter, grindstone, top, revoker on mother of runes, 2 goblin welder. There was probably more I'm forgetting. I also blasted an artifact early so I as able to weld one artifact away per turn (but not two, which is why I couldn't weld both revokers away). Basically I only needed blast to win (blast one revoker, weld the other away) and I never found it. Eventually he got a third revoker on welder and that sealed the game, he could get jitte online and start picking away at my board.
Game 2 he rolled over me pretty quick, I didn't draw any relevant interaction and he swords everything I played.
Round 3 Sylvan Plug with loam lock tech 2-1
Game 1 I land a moon which turns off most of his loam tricks and titania. He lands a chalice on 1 before I can play stone or welder. I try to get painter + jaya to blow it up but he manages to stop it. Beatdown plan time. It grinds on until we both have like 9 lands in play. At one point I recruiter for recruiter for recruiter and start beating, he finds that spell that destroys a land and gives all opponent's creatures -1/-1. I beat him down to 3 and he gets enough blockers and wins with board control.
Games 2 and 3 I manage to moon him and grind him out fairly quickly.
Round 4 Punishing Jund Loam Chalice madness 2-2
This is a rough matchup. Every game I had a moon, and every game he had mox diamond to generate non-red mana and a decay to break the moon lock. Chalice on 1 both games. Jaya, welder, revoker all die to p-fire. Couldn't break his lock and he didn't care about mine.
Round 5 nic fit miracles hybrid 3-2
This guy was good but new to playing control. My blasts, moons, and combo were really good here every game. 2-0 grinded him out in the first 6 turns. I had the best pairings out of the 3-2's so I was locked for top 8.
Cut to top 8 - Punishing Jund (same opponent from R4)
Read above. Horrible matchup.
Got a fourth plateau for my trouble. It was a fun day. Favorite game of the day was my first loss to D&T, so much fun and crazy.

My experiences with Punishing Jund have always been OK, but they never had Chalice so there's that. That does seem annoying. This seems like a place where Manic Vandal can do some work, since you don't have to worry about it being countered, though you do have to worry about discarding it.
Also Engineered Explosives / Ratchet Bomb work pretty great against Chalice. Perhaps try to find room for one main or in the side?

Are any of you guys playing in the Richmond Premier IQ? Also I am considering not playing the W/R version and just play mono R.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I've had some success with this deck over the last 2 weeks. Played in my local Legacy tourney last week and went 4-0. Played against RUG delver, Tezzerator, OmniShow and Manaless Dredge. The RUG and dredge matchups were actually on camera...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKaXgNx8DeQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaLVNhj8Wy8
I also played in the MTGO daily today and won my first 3 matches before dropping to URW Stoneforge in the finals. I did beat Omnishow and Miracles tonight.
I will say that the black splash with Slaughter Games and Engineered Plague have definitely done some work in those MUs.
Here is the list I am currently playing:
Lands
3 [ZEN] Mountain (3)
4 [ZEN] Arid Mesa
1 [MR] Great Furnace
1 [UNH] Plains
3 [EX] City of Traitors
4 [V12] Ancient Tomb
1 [B] Badlands
1 [ZEN] Marsh Flats
2 [B] Plateau
// Creatures
4 [SHM] Painter's Servant
3 [P3] Imperial Recruiter
2 [JGC] Goblin Welder
1 [ALA] Ethersworn Canonist
1 [TSP] Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
1 [NPH] Spellskite
// Spells
4 [TE] Grindstone
4 [IA] Pyroblast
4 [CH] Blood Moon
1 [SH] Ensnaring Bridge
2 [ARE] Enlightened Tutor
3 [V09] Sensei's Divining Top
4 [V09] Lotus Petal
3 [B] Red Elemental Blast
3 [THS] Magma Jet
// Sideboard
SB: 1 [SH] Ensnaring Bridge
SB: 1 [ARE] Enlightened Tutor
SB: 1 [B] Red Elemental Blast
SB: 1 [M15] Phyrexian Revoker
SB: 1 [MMA] Engineered Explosives
SB: 1 [EVE] Duergar Hedge-Mage
SB: 1 [C14] Containment Priest
SB: 1 [GTC] Assemble the Legion
SB: 1 [RTR] Rest in Peace
SB: 1 [LRW] Thorn of Amethyst
SB: 1 [AL] Pyrokinesis
SB: 1 [UL] Engineered Plague
SB: 2 [RTR] Slaughter Games
SB: 1 [LG] Chains of Mephistopheles
Magma Jets have also been ALL STARS in the deck and I think finishing off the last 2 points with jet has gotten me two games against Miracles and Omnishow. The spellskite has also been fantastic, as you can see in the MU against RUG delver.
The only cards I'm currently not sure about are the Chains of Mephistopheles and the 4th red blast in the board, although the 4th blast has actually been pretty good. I actually still have yet to play the chains and would never tutor for it. I'm wondering if there is another card that has good game against combo...specifically ANT, OmniShow and maybe splash against stoneforge. I'm wondering what cards exist that don't allow opponents to search decks, such as Aven Mindcensor. Any cheap enchantment that does something similar? Or is there another black enchantment that really hoses blue? Also, would bitterblossom be better than Assemble? It comes down faster but obviously has the downside of damage and only one token per turn.
Anyone else having any further success with the black splash?
-
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I don't think we should dip too far into black as we also got a splash of white, but I sure as hell love the 2 Slaughter Games and 2 Engineered Plagues in my board. However Chains of Mephistoteles also seems like a nice thought, did it have any real game changing effect on any of your games?
As for the anti-search, we do have Leonin Arbiter to be fetched with Recruiter, or Stranglehold to be fetched with Enligthened. Both's a bit slow, but seems like decent options to shut down ANT if you're not facing a Turn 1-2 kill. I believe Canonist, Thorn or Trinispheres still is the real answer thought.. the potential turn 1's are too crucial.
-
Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I am going to try it out in a few weeks at the local. Dunno about your list specifically but def with the black splash

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Chains seems like it might be cool, I'd certainly try it, preferably before buying it.
Speaking of $$$ legends enchantments, I've definitely considered a SB The Abyss before as well, as it doesn't really kill our combo, but certainly helps break parity in long games against things like DnT, BUG, etc. which really just can't beat it.
I haven't really tried it though, as those matchups aren't terrible to begin with, and spot removal has been fine (I'm running Sudden Shock, which owns DnT).

I'm not sure that Leonin Arbiter actually does anything against ANT or Omnishow. The 2 mana payment isn't very had for them to make when they are going critical. It might slow them some, but I don't think it's powerful enough to see play.
My guess is Stranglehold is too slow to actually help. This card is very intresting but I do think for it to be useful we would want to speed up our mana a bit more deck a lot by running even more fast mana sources. Crome Mox or Mox Diamonds perhaps...
Another (bad) option is Shadow of Doubt
Why not just play Aven Mindcensor if you want this effect, yes you can't suprise them as much, but you can tutor for it with Recruiter.
Also on the subject of Engineered Plague, why Plague over say Illness in the Ranks or Dread of Night. It's clearly the more versatile card, but it's also got a higehr CMC.
Illness seems fine if your concern is Mentor / Young Pyromancer tokens, does nothing about DnT
Dread of Night seems fine if your concern is Mentor / DnT, does nothing about Young Pyromancer
Plauge can in theory do more in more matchups but depending on the actual goal might just be a more expensive Illness or Dread.
Sometimes having a card that is more versatile is absolutely worth it, but sometimes I find that the value of more versatility is deceptive and can have you play suboptimal cards for small marginal value increases that don't happen with enough frequency to justify it. Just a thought, Plague could be 100% right.

Just throwing in my own two cents, Plague can hurt Elves and Goblins, even if it doesn't shut them down.

I do also believe the shuffle-cutters aren't worth it (as I also commented), just threw in some options as requested. But yes.. Leonin was a terrible suggestion indeed.

I believe the versatility is king, being able to handle DnT and Mentor as well as the opposite Pyromancer decks is relevant. As mentioned it also hits tribals (+Merfolks), and especially Elves is a MU I'd give no regrets to cover a lil bit more.
The cost isn't really an issue, as you most of the time want them to drop some some targets before slamming it, or dry their hand beforehand depending on MU. The only matchup were I'd want a faster drop is a turn earlier against Elves, which neither Illness nor Dread hits at all.

Yes, this exactly. Plague is just so much better against tribal decks and it can kill true-name. It is also actually really good against the new Miracles deck. Name Wizard and 80% of their win conditions are dead.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Anyone have any additional Parents testing? Purely based on speculation alone and the freeing of spots, I'm strongly considering playing one in the board to make up for Koth's worse position with Yung P and Mentor everywhere and the need for a pseudo alternate wincon. I'm considering Parents over Assemble just because the line A) of Moon -> Recruiter -> Parents is much easier to assemble and harder for the opponent to deal with than line B) dancing around with etutor and trying to get five mana and wondering if dropping a moon early is still even the right play.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Hi
I'm still playing Koth x2 against miracle. My answer to Pyromancer and mentor is sudden shock, and I'll test soon dread of night in the sideboard. I hesitated between Illness in the rank, dread of night and sulfur elemental. but elemental is not tutorable -so It would take too many place in the sideboard - and doesn't work against pyromancer. by the way, I think we must play a tutorisable card, so a card for matchups for whom we side out moons.
Grixis delver is easier than miracle or D&T, so I chose Dread of night.
I tried Slaughter games during last tournament. it make me win agaisnt omnishow (my first win against this deck). my oponent was surprised during the second game, and it forced him to play fas in the third one, so he lost. I tried it against miracle, but never drawed it.
my list :
perhaps I'll change the susher for the dread of night
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Mountain
3 Bloodstained Mire
3 City of Traitors
2 Plateau
2 Wooded Foothills
1 Badlands
4 Painter's Servant
4 Imperial Recruiter
2 Simian Spirit Guide
2 Goblin Welder
1 Phyrexian Revoker
1 Engineered explosives
1 Magus of the Moon
1 Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
4 Pyroblast
2 Enlightened Tutor
3 Red Elemental Blast
4 Blood Moon
4 Grindstone
3 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Ensnaring Bridge
3 Lotus Petal
SB :
1 Containment Priest
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Thorn of Amethyst
1 Rest in Peace
2 Slaughter games
1 Duergar Hedge-mage
2 Koth of the Hammer
3 Sudden shock
1 Vexing Susher
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Trinisphere

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
I do play one Parents in my board (decklist in signature) and I find it fantastic against several matchups due to the versatility.
If you're ahead but they got some pesky combo-hate, it's amazing for closing games via poking and burning. If you're behind on board against delver, miracles, DnT or similiar grindy decks, it really helps you coming back in just a few turns if left unchecked, and even if dealt with you buy some turns with flying chumpers (kills Flickerwisps, won me a game).
It also does a great job with a bridge in play as you can poke with flier, and use your topdeck afterwards, so in that case it's just as great as Koth. The downside however, is that it doesn't survive just as easy to removal, but as mentioned several times, Koth dies to the token generators bigtime.
The only reason why I'm not maining Parents is because I'm testing burn main atm (Jets for consistency).
However my testing is still a bit limited, only have knowledge from a couple of rather small Legacy FNMs and some casual.

Question on DnT, do you name human, or what?

Usually yes. Human pretty much takes out everything but flickerwisp and revoker. Sometimes I will target revoker with it if it is shutting off the combo, but burn or blasts can usually clean up a couple of their haters as well.

Hey guys, I played Painter for the first time in the Sunday side event in Lille :-) very nice deck.
I am coming from delver decks so a quite big change, still sorting out the right way to play and to side in/out :-)
I have started to play it on our Tuesday legacy event in London, I will keep you updated, for the moment I am playing a quite standard RW list.
Last Tuesday I finished 3-1, won against Tes, Aluren and The Gate, lost against colourless Stax (nearly there on one of the game, keeping a very fast but risky hand, didn't find the sol land that would have let me win that game, but I felt the matchup not that easy, even if I am not an expert of the deck so I probably made a few mistake)

Went 4-0 in the daily and i attribute the black splash to at least 2 wins.
I think I'm going to try streaming again in case anyone is interested. I streamed half of this daily but didn't save it. Will start saving them as well but still figuring out how that works.
Anyway, I will stream at channel Rude_Eternal.

I am thinking about rocking this at SCG this weekend. Are running Magma Jet, Sudden Shock, or neither?

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Not sure what black lists look like at all really but Dan I bet you could free up a ton of board spots by committing more to the splash and running kologans command (don't feel like looking up spelling). Take care of removal as well as artifact hate. The other two modes are pretty helpful too

Funny I actually was just looking at that card. It would be really good but I'm still on blood moons as well so I don't want to go overboard on black. The black is for the combo MUs where blood moons are typically coming out in some number. I will have still consider it though, as k.command is a very good card in almost all MUs and can get creatures back which is an added bonus.

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
So this past weekend I played in a satellite for Eternal Extrvaganza 3. I knew I would be sleeving up my trusty Painter deck despite my worries about omni. What I wasn't sure about though was whether to play Pia and Kiran or the Assemble the Legion that has done me so well. I was leaning towards Pia and Kiran for a few reasons. I wanted to test out the new toy, it's easier to cast through Blood Moon, and I'm really sick of young promancers. My friends remembered all the times though that Assemble just destroyed them, it can often make a better army than pyromancer or mentor the cards we've been trying to figure out how to beat, I was also expecting a fair share of miracles (I'm always expecting miracles) and assemble just seems a lot better against them as it can't be swords away and terminus doesn't much matter. As I saw all the people sleeving up their counterbalances and punishing fires I made my choice and wrote Assemble down as the final card.

Rd 1 - Death and Taxes
So this deck has been very popular at my LGS and I'm quite experienced in the matchup. My opponent also left his decklist sitting face up while he went to the bathroom before we started. I lost the die roll and he led with wasteland into vial. My first two lands got wasted but I was able to land a turn one revoker on vial and followed up with a blood moon shortly thereafter to shut off all his disruption and lock him into one spell a turn until he found a second plains. Eventually I got there. G2 he had a very aggressive start but bridge and a firebolt slowed down the assault until I got the combo up .
1-0
Rd 2 - Aggro Loam
I got paired against a good friend, Zach who I drove down with. Sucks. Even though I was favored I offered a prize split before we began because this situation sucks and I figured he'd be good to get at least 16th and get some prize (he failed me). We had a very interesting judge call in G2 when we both mistakenly thought the other was conceding, in the end I won 2-0-1 (the draw being the judge call). Both games I cast blood moon and assemble, then he died. The draw game, he really should have won, he had answers for my threats and I was dead on his upkeep to burn ( he didn't have a library though so there's that.)
2-0
Rd 3 - Homebrew helm combo
Very reminiscent of miracles. He sat next to me the previous round and beat my friend Mike onn 12 post. We had a lot of fun with him because he was talking about how much he didn't like helmerator (ub tezz with helm) a deck that my rd 2 opponent has two deck techs with. Anyways in G1 I flooded. In G2 I locked him out with magus, usually I board magus out agaisnt miracles because he gets swords pretty easily but I got the feeling he wasn't playing stp. In Game 3 I was able to get a revoker and a moon out very early and he just didn't do anything as I beat him down.
3-0
Rd 4 - Deadguy Ale
My opponent beat my other friend Ben the previous round so I thankfully knew what he was on and he was one of the few people in the room he hadn't stopped to watch one of my games. During G1 he savagely screwed up. He cast a tidehollow sculler , the cards he saw were blood moon, spirit guide, daretti, and I can't remember the last. The top card of my deck is a painter that I tutored for, I have a grindstone in play with 4 mana worth of lands. he takes blood moon, then attacks with deathrite (his only remaining mana source). I untap and kill him. G2 I landed a turn 2 moon. He was able to land two dark confidants and two lilis but jaya killed all those for me a turn or two after each hit. Finally he conceded the turn before I would have been able to untap and kill him because I was doing a bunch and he was pretty locked out.
4-0
Rd 5 - ID
4-0-1
Rd 6 - think about dreamcrushing a guy on miracles but then I realized he's good aagainst the decks I don't want to see and so ID'd hoping he'd block for me.
Top 8
Monastery Miracles, 4 Color Delver (Ben), Dredge, Dredge, Miracles, myself, and two unknown.
Ben managed to sneak in as 8th seed after Mike conceded to him in the 6th round. When they brought us slips to vote on a top 8 split I was trying to tell what he was leanining towards which I figured was no but I would have been ok with the amount. I ended up being the last person to decide. I knew my opponent was on Monastery Miracles as he beat Mike and Ben during the swiss and I watched part of his final round. I finally decided that the matchup was favorable enough and very theatrically marked "no" face up for everyone to see. Turns out my vote didn't matter anyway.
Quarterfinals - Monastery Miracles
So I was immediately a little wary because my opponent seemed a bit shady earlier. Everytime I walked by his match in round six I felt like him and his opponent were trying to clarify things or a judge was getting involved. I know he made an extra monk token at least once. During our match I couldn't see any shady behavior so I hope rd 6 was just a fluke. Our game was very non-interactive. I was on the play and went turn 1 magus. He saw a basic island and a stream of nonbasics. He almost died to magus beats (I should have in retrospect not attacked in case of snapcaster blocks) but eventually I drew the combo while he was almost dead. After the game he asked, "so have all your games been going like that?" To that I replied, "what, me winning? Yeah." Jerky, I know, but I didn't really think before I said it. Sideboarding felt very awkward. I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted Koth since the deck feels more aggressive than the entreat build. I ended up bringing in koth because I figured if he only has 4 aggressive cards Koth is probably still fine. I also brought in the pyroclasm to wipe the tokens (and mentor himself if I got lucky) as well as Duergar Hedge Mage. He had a very aggressive start and I died. When I drew my hand for game three my plan was clear. Throw haymakers onto the table and just muscle my way to victory. I had to red blast a counterbalance on turn two or three but nothing of consequence happened until I drew a third land and cast Koth the following turn which got Force of Willed. I was thinking he didn't have one or it would have been used on saving the counterbalance but I was wrong. I was able to resolve Chandra on my next turn though. My opponent brought monastery mentor to the party and Chandra got scared. She had to start lashing out and attacking all the monk tokens which was shockingly effective. Eventually after growing tired she did Assemble a Legion to help her. My opponent almost fell out of his chair when I cast the card. It soon was making more tokens than him, especially since I ratchet bombed away his mentors. Eventually It got to the point I had the combo all in hand and lethal. I made sure to ult Chandra first (per request of one of the judges) and pyroblasted his counterbalance a few times before milling out his deck and attacking for lethal. Perhaps a bit of overkill but whatever. Also Ben beat dredge.
SemiFinals
I agreed to this split but Ben no sir'd it while I was still toying around with my opponent. I was less than pleased, we knew that we were in seperate brackets so our opponents had to be dredge and reanimator. He didn't know what the potential matchups were or he would have agreed to the split. But oh well. During G1 my opponent mulliganed to oblivion. It was a fairly uneventful game where he had to experience what the deck can do. G2 I mulliganed down to five. We figured it was oblivion but my starting hand and draws were insane. He had turn 1 daze and turn 2 force. I think, and my opponent as well as multiple spectators agree that if I was on the play there was a very real chance I win that game. I basically just played welders, grindstones, and painters. My opponent however beat me down with an Elesh Norn which I assume he got after getting scared by Assemble. He expressed a lot of uncertainty in what to entomb for. I would have picked not Elesh Norn but he still won. For the final game my seven card hand was very much high risk, high reward. It was city of traitors x 2, grindstone, simian spirit guide, pyroblast, top, ensnaring bridge. I hit the tank super hard. This had the potential of me to get super blown out but it also has basically everything I want in this match up short of rest in peace / crypt. Eventually I decided to mulligan but I wanted to see what I would have draw had I chosen to keep. Top two cards were painter and blood moon. TILT. I quickly told the judge I needed a drink of water from the fountain. It was pretty obvious to everybody though I just needed to step away. (Fun fact: I had water with me, though I did actually get some.) I came back feeling a bit better and finished my mulligan. i kept a fairly generically strong six that had nothing much for the matchup in question. My opponent also seemed to have a strangely fair hand. I resolved a top and an ensnaring bridge on turns one and two. Then thoughtseized my magus of the moon I was planning to play next turn but on my upkeep I spun top and found a blood moon. "Oh, aren't you afraid of this card?" My opponent groaned and things started looking up. Eventually he was able to reanimate a Griselbrand anyway. Thankfully for me the Griselbrand was being stopped by e bridge and my opponent was too low on life to draw seven, but I also could no longer attack through. I kept committing dudes to the board like elesh norn hadn't been on the table in the second game and eventually was able to attack for lethal through the Griselbrand. Ben also somehow beat dredge again so we split the finals and got $1,000 store credit each which we had also split with Zach and Mike so we all got $500. I used mine to pick up the FBB Badlands, erm odland, I'd need for the black splash going forward as well as the third 7th edition foil bridge (finishing foiling out my 75, except for the 2 altered lotus petals that some people are giving me grief for ), and an Underground Sea. I think next time I win a bunch of store credit somewhere I'm going to try to get a fbb volc or taiga, just in case they become relevant sometime.

It was def blood moon, the top was already in my hand and when I left I was looking at three red cards. Either way though, still tilting, much like my very show boaty attitude probably was for my opponents during the top 8 :3

Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter
Anyone have any suggestions for the side board in the splash black version over the Chains of Mephastopholes? Thought I would be able to borrow one for the weekend but that fell through.
