Why are they glued to a normal card? Or is the regular card there just for reference?
misc question: Does any of you know if it is possible to kind of "peel off" the foil layer of a card and transfer it to another card?
I just placed the dragon inside a penny sleeve with a normal card for ease of safekeeping. Some of them (when played by Garfield and co) were glued to other surfaces to make them easier to handle.
@Julian: It's probably a lot easier to impose a scan of the desired card on an acetoned foil to get a foil proxy.
How can you tell such a playtest 'card' isn't counterfeit?
Cardstock playtests are easier to authenticate, but there aren't any specific tests like those we perform on typical magic cards. The only way to authenticate them is by comparison of material (for the dragon, type of paper used, thickness; easier for cardstock), size of item, printing and by due diligence on the seller. Compared with summer magic and even test prints, the number of people who possess or who know about playtest cards is minute, likely smaller than the above groups. That makes due diligence a lot easier. There is only a handful of people, maybe less, who have indepth knowledge with playtests from owning legitimate decks from playtesters, and I've spoken to a couple of them about authenticity. My cardstock playtests have been passed by them insofar as scans are concerned.
The dragon, which is the largest authenticity question mark of those I own, is likely legit due to the fact that the largest playtest collector around today owns a djinn that is from the same source, and he feels that it is legit. The dragon has the same printing parameters as the djinn, and is the same as the one Richard (the shivan dragon collector) has. All that can of course go up in a pile of smoke with new developments, but authenticating playtests is simultaneously made easier and harder by the very small pool of people who deal with them. I would say that the most common playtest card would have the same approximate numbers as a summer rare.
Except the basic lands, I think. Perhaps slightly more than summer rares (12-15 each), somewhere in the 15-20 range. IIRC, there were only 12 dark rituals, for instance.
You could, but they aren't as expensive as their rarity would indicate. Certain cards, like members of the p9 would fetch quite a bit, as would cards that didn't make it into alpha/beta. Too bad I don't have all the information on how to circumvent fakes, though. :frown:
I've been looking for a way to get a playtest Giant Growth! :D
I know a guy who has one, in fact he has two DECKS of playtest cards haha
But since he has only one, he can't trade it.
PLEASE PM me with specifics! :D
You've just replied to the 2nd post in a 86-page thread to a guy who has been banned for over a year.
Alright so; the next few pics aren't going to wow anyone, they're by far not as expensive to get like some of the cards posted in this topic, but nevertheless I'm very happy with my collection.
As for the deck, I love playing it in both casual and legacy and got some nice finishes with it on tourneys here. I doubt I'll ever win a tourney with it though but that isn't the most important thing for me either way.
I've been playing elves since 1998 and because of our 10 year anniversary I decided to start foiling the deck september last year. Some of the card were harder to get then others... I still need to foil the heaths and mutavaults, as well as 1 cradle.. and then my sideboard yeah.. I'm just a starting pimp :)

nice!
Want to sell Caller, Messenger, Ranger, Cradle and Priest? ;)
Messenger and Caller are hard to find and the Promos are to expensive...
I haven't seen a foil Cradle in years. Nice.
How can you even know that those are Magic cards?

#005. 2 of the 3 were opened from Alara Reborn boosters and I purchased them.
I've opened an all white card with the black boarders from a precon. The second I did Mike Glow offered to buy it for 75$. They're worth something.
But how does this card "pimp" my Legacy deck?
