How is a 1 mana 2-for-1 a bad deal..? WTF
And Dryad Arbor (and Qasali) is great when playing Meren. Mostly for gaining first counters.
I've moved to Scryb Ranger over Meren. It has a similar interaction with Arbor, and it functions as an 11th piece (after gsz/arbor, vet, and drs) of mana acceleration in land light hands. It's got some interesting interactions with other cards too such as untapping blockers, dealing with things like flipped Delvers, and speeding up a DRS clock.
I'd rather go for Wood Elves, they can grab forest-dual which goes into play.
Wood Elves only works if you already had mana acceleration to get to 3 mana on turn 2, and does nothing if drawn later in the game. The alternative to Scryb Ranger isn't Wood Elves, it's Sakura Tribe-Elder.
Brael, I think you are talking about scryb ranger and not sylvan ranger, based on the effects you mention such as untapping blockers.
Oh whoops, you're right, had the name wrong. I'll go back and edit my posts to make more sense.
I view it very similar. Playing "fair" on a curve isn't really good enough for legacy; I feel like I need therapy/tower + explorer, gsz, or library in my opening hand g1. Too many of our top decks require big mana so those cards in some number are needed to keep up with the format.
@Brael
Scryb Ranger is an interesting choice, it does tons of work in maverick. Flying is relevant, holds equips really well. I would want sfm as well. At that point, maverick? Untapping knight is one of its most important uses. I feel like the blow-stuff-up-only-to-get-it-back angle is more nic fits style, like GSZ into witness, meren, or Liliana tlh.
So I have to ask, what does it offer specifically to nic fit? You touched on it with the da interaction, but for me that isn't enough.
Same, my primary criteria for any hand is 3 mana on turn 2, and I mulligan very heavily to get that. But, I do accept the Ranger as a final card to try and make it happen because of my strategy to often sideboard vets out. Some use STE instead as a final ramp card which has value too.
It's a very fast clock with DRS, it's great ramp with either Arbor or DRS. It's got a solid interaction with anything that can profitably block like Thragtusk or Chameleon Colossus. There's a few other good cards it works with, but they're not coming to mind right now. The biggest interaction is with DRS honestly as DRS+Ranger is a 3 turn clock that gets past just about everything. In fact, if you're on limited mana (say 4 at the most), you can Ranger/DRS build while building your board, and still have a turn 5 kill. It's the fastest non combo win available to the archetype.
DRS gone.
Many decks are cut off from acceleration.
Our chance?
Yep. Just wanted to post it.

Now two ways... replace him or.. put something totally different. 1of classical BoP?
Does Nyx Fit get a lot better now?
Academy Rector was rough to play with so many DRS's around so it seems Nyx Fit would be a great choice moving forward.
The only issue is I think Reanimator decks get a lot stronger now which was always hard for Nyx Fit to beat, so not sure how that is going to work.
So, just for starters:
-3 Drs
+2 birds
+1 jitte
Birds do the mana, jitte does the threat part of drs.
Birds are in no way comparable... I'm thinking about Lotus Cobra.

Not super relevant to the discussion, but in light of todays bannings I thought it would be funny to see how players reacted to Deathrite being made

I am moving on a 2x sakura tribe elder plan.
I did some test before banning with Arena Rector, but I have mixed feelings.
I think I will try a Living Wish package if still have issues with Arena Rector.
Just curious, did any of you tried Banana Man Tasigur, before the ban?
What is your issue ?
I'm having a lot of fun with my BANT build and I will bring it to my next LGS tournament to get more feedbacks !

Yeah, that is the problem i do not want to be in bleu.
I am testing WBG with some splash and see if it is playable. At the moment i will wait until the metagame will settle after the recent bans. The biggest problem is drawing your Ugin when you cannot cast it. That is why I switched Bolas God into Kaya to have an edge against combo or control decks.
Indeed Karakas is a bitch. I was looking for a cheap creatures after board reset (deeds). Tasigur fills the role. You explode the board buy him for 1B and use his ability to bring back some cards. It is less about smashing face, i was looking for an utility creature.
You're probably right, we don't need birds. I worry about counting on gsz/arbor as extra mana acceleration; wasteland will be everywhere. However, in my limited experience, vet is the real acceleration. Drs was just too good to *not* play. Doran makes birds marginally better for me.
Some other ideas for those 3 slots:
1) crop rotation + utility lands
2) sfm + jitte (I feel like it could be really good)
3) lingering souls
4) garruk relentless/pws
5) thoughtseize
Black mana is pretty important, I'm pretty sure that offsets the combat bonus of noble, or at least is a consideration when playing junk colors.
Upon further reflection, I'm going to play 1x thoughtseize, 1x garruk relentless, and cut to 60 cards in the 3 deathrite slots.
Going down on mana sources and up on curve will make your deck run worse.
Edit: Here's my first shot at a GB build post DRS (though I'm thinking 3 colors are probably better right now)

With DRS gone could it be good to go back to playing a recurring nightmare build?
I disagree, Tarmogoyf was out because of DRS, and absent DRS, Goyf is the most efficient creature you can commit to the board.
Even if you are in the colors to run Kolaghans, the numbers are unlikely to go up by much. But without DRS's easy mana, far fewer decks will be in BR.
I was reading the Czech pile thread and the sentiment currently is to switch to grixis. Sultai control is a thing, but some on that thread are saying red is more important.
Goyf doesn't get good all of a sudden overnight. It fights for space against tnn, a much better creature. Grave hate will be less prevalent maindeck but stronger out of the board. Goyf is still probably not the best option in legacy, no matter how much of a bromance I have with the card. We'll see.
