I like your idea, but I'm really scared of Hymn to Tourach decks to be honest. Also, the new breed of Mono (more or less) blue decks have millions of counterspells, and resolving High Tide and untap effects is key.
Even if they assume you have FoW, they will still Hymn you and/or counter your key spells. I want to believe in your idea, but I'm not sure how it would work.
although obviously our builds are (very likely) different, if for nothing else because I play wishless, I understand what you are saying about cutting FoW. It's obviously dangerous, but the deck runs more like a "combo deck" now than a "contro / combo" hybrid.
Divert is extremely important (Again, in wishless build, but it's ability to wreck hymn to tourach is even better than misdirections) in the board. I do like the pacts in the main of my list, as it gives you a hard counter when going off, which you sometimes do have to have. If you haven't tried Revival yet, I suggest it. It is much better than it looks on paper.
Repeal in general is better than cryptic IMO. Seems like most of the time you are just saving a mana running repeal, and both are useless vs. Teeg. (Although teeg isn't that big of a hoser for this deck anyways)
I think if you are still going to run Cunning Wish main you have to identify what cards are essential to making wish "worth it" and then cutting most if not all of the "situationally good" cards for cards that really make your tough matchups better (divert vs. BUG, some form of graveyard hate vs. dredge, depending on how scared you are of storm either Mindbreak trap or stifle... etc.)
I ended up leaving the wishes out almost soley based on the fact that you really need the space to make game 2/3 of your bad matchups as good as possible.

And against Landstill, FoW is a pretty rotten card, because you can't afford the card disadvantage. Control decks like that have no clock, so you have plenty of time to drop lands and sculpt your hand. You then start to go off and use their counters to generate lethal storm. The only spell you care about resolving is Brainfreeze, which you should have in your hand before you start to go off. Personally, I like to have two.
The only thing I have found FoW useful for in that matchup is countering an early Standstill, and even then it's pretty questionable.
I agree that this is necessary. It means dropping my Hunting Pact kill, and also some occassionally broken but rarely useful cards like Rebuild. Once I get a maindeck I'm happy with I'll turn my attention to the sideboard. I hesitate to remove the Wishes completely, though, because Wishing for High Tide is so powerful.Quote:

Another double post; this thread is not nearly as active as it used to be.
Had a rather depressing tournament, where I went 1-1-2 and dropped.
My first match was against Deadguy Ale, which I won handily.
My second match was against a Welder deck. I fizzled in game one, won game two, and then fizzled after going to time on game three, resulting in a draw. This was a disappointing result, as I came very, very close to winning on two occasions. Maindecked Blightsteel Colossus was just too much to handle after having to first play around Trinisphere, etc. I needed to lean heavily on my Meditates, and they just didn't get me there. It happens.
However, matches three and four were against Merfolk, and it was a real eye-opener.
I've played against Merfolk before. I've played against these players before. I generally win, although it is never easy.
Not this time. With Mental Misstep they have 8 hard counters backed up by at least 8 soft counters. Despite the fact that (after sideboard) I had Mental Misstep AND FoW, I just could not go off successfully.
My hands were good. I often had two High Tides and a couple of Resets, which would have allowed me to play against one or two counters. Unfortunately, they always seemed to have three or four.
I would expect this from Landstill, and I would plan for it by using the counter-storm to deck them. But Merfolk has such a fast clock that I simply did not have the time to try that.
While Solidarity is has been "dead" for a long while, my first encounter with MM Merfolk makes me feel like things have just gotten much worse. Our combo engine is so large we simply can't pack any more counter-disruption and still combo with any reliability.
Does anyone see a solution (besides unbanning Frantic Search)?

I love this deck and still have it sleeved up but I don't play it anymore in a tournament setting, just because this deck is just outdated now.
They really should unban frantic search, it wouldn't make this deck tier 1, but certainly more playable than it is now.

I never really liked it in solidarity. Pitching reset or brainstorm just to stop nacatl, ... Meh.
Fow was needed when people played maindeck hosers like counterbalance, but that card is gone.
MM gave you the ability to run 4 MM, 4 dispel/veil/whatever as a decent countersuite without card disadvantage.
Or am I just crazy?
Funny you should say that. I ran 4 MM main deck, 4 FoW in the sideboard. While I did not do particularly well (largely due to my Merfolk matches) I never found myself wishing that the MM in my hand was a FoW.
This deck has always been torn in two directions; faster and more controlling.
With PtD and Hunting Pack, I have made my deck slightly faster (I can go off on turn 3 surprisingly often if there is no disruption). However, MM is really good at slowing our opponents. Perhaps backing it up with more Remands/Repeals would slow things down enough that we can go off more securely.

Do you mind posting your current decklist? I find your brainfarting quite intersting and would like to check on you list. I'm currently playing the same deck as last posted by Seraphus and find the N.Revivals awesome.
Some posts ago, I saw some discussion about the painter matchup. A friend of mine is playing Imperial Painter and tbh, I can't remember the time I lost a game to him. It's very easy to stall them with bounce and MM on Welders/Stone.
Btw i don't advice the use of my list anymore... Nouxious isn't actually very usefull since the counter packaged that decks usual run this days posse another problem to solidarity so the carddisavantaged that the counter war generate don't allow the power of nouxious to be 100% usefull...
if someone doesn't understand something or want to share some intel on solidarity just pm me.

Join forces - Starting with you, each player may pay any amount of mana. Each player searches his or her library for up to X basic land cards, where X is the total amount of mana paid this way, puts them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffles his or her library.
Yes, it's green, and yes, it's a sorcery. But I can't think of any deck better placed to abuse it than Solidarity.
Casting it on turn 3, with X = 2 (assume your opponent is not stupid enough to pay any mana), you start turn 4 with 5 lands out, 6 if you can make your usual land drop.
Assuming you are willing to play Quicken, it gets even more stupid during the combo.

This is the deck I was using before Survival was banned.
This deck won me several well attended local tournaments - these tournaments had dual lands as prizes, and I was able to put together nearly a complete set of blue duals from my wins. It was perfect for the meta game - Survival stomped on the meta, and I stomped on Survival.Quote:

After a several month break, the deck is old tech and the relevant matchups have changed. I used this list as a base and simply replaced FoW with MM, while moving FoW to the sideboard. I tested a variety of other builds, but kept coming back to this one. I did replace Cryptic with Repeal, though, as it allowed me to bounce an early vial or lacky, which Cryptic did not.
Hunting Pack is still broken about 20% of the time, and MM is a huge improvement over FoW. The deck simply feels stronger.
That said, Merfolk seemed much, MUCH stronger. And as Merfolk is always going to be part of the meta, that's a real issue. With 8 hard counters and 8 soft counters, they have practically the same stopping power as Landstill, but a much faster clock. Either we need to slow them down more so we can deal with them the same way we deal with Landstill, or we need far more counter-disruption.
Adding counter disruption makes our ability to actually combo off weaker, however. I'm wondering if some kind of transformational sideboard is in order, where we switch to pure control and rely on eventually killing them with a low storm Hunting Pack or multiple Brainfreezes after dumping a ton of lands. The longer the game goes on, the less relevant half of their counters become.
