The problem is also the sticky prices... "What goes up must come down" clearly does not apply to cards to the same degree. Each time a card spikes, it rarely drops back down...
@ESG: Well said! The problem is.. even if we all follow the 'buy-4-to-play' ethic, there are always going to be those 'but-everyone-else-is-doing-it' people in the world. We can't do much just have to live with it... :mad: (clarification: living with it and living BY it are very different things)
Dude! Come back to Sydney, we need people like you! You can't get anything for a good price for anything here! Even the locals quote SCG price when selling! I post on the local forum to buy at near SCG prices, and I cannot get anything (could be the stock numbers, but still). [/my rant].
I'd love to man, gp Singapore depleted my dollar dollar so I'll have to save up for it. I love Australia. Players there are exactly that, players. You guys don't mind paying fair prices for staples. It's nice when I go back to Sydney/melb that I can get good prices on my alters/ staples/ pimp.
I really want to head back and visit everyone! It's been too long. :)
In Singapore, I had a guy try to get a 3 dollar discount on one of my alters (I was charging 20). Dude, not cool.

The thing with Dual Lands is, everyone's willing to trade for them but it's so hard to find others who will trade them to me. I had to offer decent value and trade away 2 Forces and a Goyf as part of a trade in order to pick up 2 non-blue duals! And so when someone offers me a Force of Will for a Savannah, yeah Apathy House says they're practically even but I'd MUCH rather have the Savannah since no one trades them!!! That's why when someone wants a dual from me, I DO ask for a little premium. Because they're held so tightly by players and collectors alike!

1 Elspeth, KE
I'm not sure exactly on the fate of the prices for shocks moving foward. If Modern isn't coming on paper, I'm assuming shocks will still creep really slowly since the supply is limited and demand will only slowly increase with EDH. If Modern is announced, do you guys see shocks going for $10-15 a piece? What happens if they reprint shocks in Commander decks? how much would this set them back?

Commander decklists are up. No shocklands. A reprint will ding them a lot unless they do the nonsensical thing and make them mythics. If Modern/Overextended gets supported, these could easily hit 20 assuming no reprint.

I think i would have done that trade in a heart-beat... Budget players want them, EDH players want them, Casual players want them to an extent, and with everyone tossing around ideas for Modern or Overextended or CYOS and variant formats i can see them slowly creeping up even if nothing happens. If modern or OE hits paper, they will jump without reprints so long as the format has any amount of popularity.
If you can find em for cheap enough or have an extra dual or something that you can trade off for large chunks of shocklands it might not be a bad idea to do so.

This was an unreal deal. I've regularly been able to move Rav duals for the $20-50 cards that matter at 10+ a piece. You probably could easily flip that for at $100 in trade profit on the trade value of the Badlands.

This. You traded max of $50(crappy dual too) for $115(extreme lowballing, $5 each shock and $10 Elspeth). Even the worst shock can easily get $5-6 and this was before Modern speculation. You raped him and made him believe he gave consent.

Well he valued his shocks at what shocks were valued 2 years ago. He seemed fine with the trade, and knew shocks might creep up but he didn't want the shocks, so I took as many as I could from him since he was valuing the shocks at what they were worth like 1-2 years ago :P
He valued them at:
Blood Crypts $4
Breeding Pools $6
Watery Grave $7
Temple Garden $5
Sacred Foundry $5
Stomping Ground $5
Overgrown Tomb $5
This was pretty much right on the dot 2-3 years back, shocks have creeped slowly since then. I've only begun to realize I should stock up a playset just in case modern is on paper. I don't have intention on selling the shocks if Modern is real. I would actually play Modern since I think it's actually a decent/fun format (still much inferior to Legacy IMO) but there will be a lot more players.
Also, ZEN fetches are slowly going up as well. In particular foil ZEN fetches are no longer at the deal they were before ~$15-18 in the past. Bobs are the truly awesome ones. Because there is no way that Bob should be worth $8 in the past. He should have always been worth $15-20 at the very least. I'm happy Bob is ~$25 now because I think he totally deserves it standing next to other good cards like Goyf. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hierarch/Clique all pick up (KotR is already printed in an additional set so it won't go up too much).

Even at those lower prices for the shocks, why would he value Badlands at $100? I'm sorry, but no matter how you justify it, you ripped him off big time, and posting here asking how you did was a thinly veiled attempt to boast.
And fetches are going down while foil fetches are going up.

So by how much do you think Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stongeforge Mystic will drop now that they are banned in Standard? Seems like a good time for Legacy players to pick these up if they haven't already.

Stoneforge Mystic will be huge in Extended (or in Modern or Overextended if one of those formats replaces Extended), so I wouldn't say that it will be that much lower, even with the event deck. Jace is pretty hard to predict, but I see him settling around 40.

Jace should hit $30 if not lower since his price is almost solely based on standard despite what people think. He'll hold the most value though since he does have the reputation and usefulness outside of the format. Stoneforge should hit $4-6 and that's probably generous. It's a normal rare, in a pre-con, about to rotate anyway, not an EDH staple, and now relocated completely to Legacy. Now foils on the other hand, will go down then straight back up. Good time to grab some in the next week.

Jace will bottom at $40, the next few months will be the best time to acquire him. you'll never likely see this card reprinted again (or a broken walker for that matter), it'll slowly climb back up to Goyf range which is $60-70 by next year.

What are your opinions regarding foil Jaces? I'd say they'll go down a bit in value for some months, then go up again next year, and stay high forever or until a better wincon is printed for blue (probably this will not happen in the next 5 years.). I'd say they'll reach 100$ for a foil copy in the next weeks.
